Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I periodically set the dish at a correct angle/direction by following this:

1. Zee Dishtv -the set top box I have for this gives out a high intensity whistling noise when the signal setup screen is selected - depending on the signal strength, the noise becomes shriller. I just keep one of my mobile near the tv and with another mobile go the rooftop and adjust the angle of the dish by listening to the tone thru the mobile

2. Tata Sky - the signal setup only shows the quality/strength %age - my kids or wife will keep telling me the numbers and dish angle is adjusted accordingly.

Back to good old days.

That reminds me of the 70s & 80s.

But just the adjustment with the dish is enough? I have seen guys adjusting the receiver too. Is it not required?

What receiver? The set top box?
Have been working for me so far! Getting a signal strength over 80 and signal quality over 70.

Robot/Endhiran has doubled their annual profits YOY. Why they should care? Dump them as soon as you can.

I still remember the horrible days when they had monopoly over cable business...got out as soon as dth was launched. They simply suck.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Just booked HD+ via ivr to be installed on sat. The pricing seems to be killer alongwith launch timing just before worldcup not giving much scope for subscribers or other providers to react. Seems they are bound to squeeze money on HD packages later.

Pity that Airtel DTH has still not seen any value in oferring Discovery Turbo. All my mails to them have gone in vain. :'(

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I am not sure how the existing subscribers are being treated when they book this. What happens to the old package - do we have to subscribe to the new HD package over and above the package?

There will be no change to existing package. In case you are not mega pack subscriber, to get hd channels (only 3 as of now ngc/discover/star+) you need to pay 30/- addl per month. For mega pack cstrs, all new channels automatically is added without any addl charge whatsoever.

For Tata Sky --> Is there any news of World Cup Cricket being relayed in HD? If so, do i need Sports Package or HD Package? How was it with the FIFA WC?

Is the mega pack worth the extra money you put in?

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Got HD+ plus installed.

While the quality of true HD channels like NGC/Discovery is outstanding, it is pathetic that the hdmi cable carries only stereo signal. Only the toslink optical out cable is carrying dolby which means if one wants it to be connected to avr, the hdmi cable needs to be connected to the TV directly and the optical cable to avr. Pathetic logic to say the least.

I have the mega pack and they say the old box can be used for another TV for Rs150. Hope it holds true irrespective of the package!
