Which series are you going in for - A550 or 650?

I think its Samsung 40B550K1R full hd contrast ratio 70k:1 , i also have a option of going in for Sony s series 40S550A full hd for similar price. Pls suggest

Samsung will cost 51K most probably will get a basic DVD player free VS Sony will cost around 55k. Which one is better.

I will recommend you to go for Samsung B550 .

I own Samsung 40 B550 K1R (since Oct-2009). Beware that B530 which is similar to B550 and also Full HD.

I am very happy with the Picture Quality of my Samsung 40B550K1R. I am using with TataSky DTH [Connection Type: Composite AV Cable] (Usage: 60%), Samsung DVD Player H1080R upscalling DVDs to 1080p [Connection Type: HDMI Cable] (Usage: 10%) and Western Digital HD TV Media Player [Connection Type: HDMI Cable] (Usage: 30%).

I have read it somewhere that Sony use the same panel as Samsung but differs only in image processing engine (Bravia vs DNIE). I compared Sony and Samsung and finally settled with Samsung for its value for money.

Both Samsung & Sony use PVA panels. IPS panel is superior to PVA and few manufacturers like Panasonic, Hitachi & LG use IPS panels (not sure if Philips also uses IPS panel).

If you are going for Sony, my suggestion would be to go for V or W series. S series is bit dated and i think V & W use the latest Bravia-3 engine.

Samsung is equally good and their 6 series (650) which is one of the best is good, but costs quite a bit (almost on par with Sony)

If you want more bang for the buck on this side of 60k then you should try Panny 42" PV plasmas. They offer the best VFM.

Thanks a lot guys, i have done a bit more research.

6 series and V series have better contrast ratio and scanning but i find 5 series and s series serve my purpose with decent contrast ratio and Full HD.

So i am going ahead with Samsung.

Guys,
What is the difference between C 10 and G10/ S10 models? C10 models are readily available in Hyd for Rs 46000 (42") and Rs 73000 (50").
Is the C10 a good buy, or should we wait for the G10 or S 10 models?

Thanks

Here is a detailed comparison note.. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadge...ml#post1558302

BTW, I just bought a 42" C10 for 43K from Panasonic Brand Shop in Bangalore. So you can bargain down from 46K.

PS: I had seen S10/C10 (42") play the same source (blue ray/normal dvd/TATA SKY) side by side and the difference can be felt only in the blue ray and that too after much careful observation. Not much difference in C10/S10 in normal viewing.

1. I assume blueray played 1080p content (not 720p), did it?
2. What type of connection was used, was it HDMI?
3. How much was the viewing distance?
Upto 720p they are not supposed to be much different anyway. If one is not bothered about 1080p and other (hard to notice type) advantages, C10 makes a much better VFM buy.

Guys
my mum and dad are going for a lcd/plasma TV as well as a home theatre.
Expected budget is70-80k. maxed out at 100k.
Problem is i'm not in town. actually out of the country.
So i need to tell them exactly what model number to buy and from where (in Bombay)
Help me decide what I would want guys cause I've no idea and yes they're hell bent on getting it now.

Thanks

Contrast ratios are actually misleading and an elusive figure.
The main advantages of Series 6 apart from Scanning are as follows.

1. DLNA : If you have a WiFi router you can play out movies from PC kept in next roon / HD player with out wires. This includes Youtube HQ videos on TV as well

2. Dvix , MPEG4 can be played using USB connector so you do not need any external HD player for those formats.

But this is not a great disadvantage , Just buy a small HD player or media PC which you can keep permanently connected through HDMI to Series 5 TV.

Regards
Amit

Many thanks, guys! Appreciate the prompt response and the reasoning given.
