Simply changed the LCD panel that cost him about 20,000 bucks! The Sony service guys will charge you even more. Rather go to some TV repairing shop.
For instance, when the LCD of my HTC Touch broke, i didn't go to the HTC service center cuz they wee charging 4000 bucks. I then went to a mobile repairing shop and they charged me just 2500 bucks. Original screen and done in front of me within 1/2hr. The HTC guys were gonna take 2days and they would surely find some more faults in the phone so that they can rob the customer even more! Same thing takes place with TVs too.

Two of my TV's went bust a few months back. One Hitachi Plasma 42, I'm being offered only 6k for it now! Other is a Sharp 32inch LCD which I am being offered just 5k now!

The tv's went kaput thanks to the monsoon moisture levels that set in at our sea front home.

Please suggest replacements in same size but would prefer a brand that offers a long warranty period.

I have decided on the Samsung series4 32inch to replace the sharp and Samsung series5 40inch to replace the Hitach.

Unfortunatly Samsung offers only 1 year warranty and no extended warranties available.

I believe Panasonic offers a 3 year warranty? Much models are at par with the ones I picked already? And what pricing. ID prefer a 42 or 46inch model too.
Please

Their prices are too high, I am getting the TVs almost 10% cheaper at vijay sales. And i'd prefer a company warranty rather than croma's.

Forgot to add, the LG guys even insisted that the set would carry no warranty if purchased Metro cash & carry.

Guess I clicked on the 2nd link, didn't see the LG one there. Just checked out the Cnet review, it explains the drawbacks of the true motion feature pretty well. The features of the review set seem to be different though. 2M:1 contrast ratio, 240 hertz with an extensive advanced control and this one is 5M:1, 200 hertz with a less extensive advanced control and no THX mode.

You can buy an additional 2 year company warranty from the installation chap.

Finally I am into buying myself a LCD TV. Following are my requirements:

1. My viewing distance from the TV would be around 12-14 ft up from front and 8-10 ft from side angle.
2. The wall on which I would mount my LCD is typically 10-12 ft.
3. There is a window directly in front of LCD but I don't mind pulling curtains on the window for TV.
4. I am planning for a 32/37 inch LCD TV.
5. Finally, Vitamin M approved by my home minister is 40K.

Recently at neighbor's place I had seen Samsung series 5 32" Full HD LCD which was quite good on picture quality. I was mighty impressed to know it did cost him 38K.

guys, please suggest me a TV going by my requirements above.

Go for 42" Panasonic Plasma - PV8 or 80 should be almost in your budget.
Real life PQ will be much better than 32" full HD LCD. Moreover for 12-14 ft distance 32" will be too small.

+1 to that.
I have a Samsung 5 series 32" full HD as well as a PV8. For all purposes, I still enjoy the PV8 more. Viewing distances are 8ft and 10ft+ respectively.

Btw, I bought my Sammy B530 for 33K.

PV8 / 80 are discontinued and may not be available easily. Check out the new models C10, X10 - considering your budget.

LG PQ30, PQ60, PQ70 plasmas are also very good from what I've seen. The first 2 should be nearabout your budget.

Guys,

I had shortlisted LG Jazz 32" (LG80FR - full HD) TV which costs around 40K in Pune. The LG site has its price - 50K. Another surprising thing is, the plasma LG PQ 30 - 42" is also priced at 50K on LG website, so I can assume it would be available around the same price as Full HD LCD.

Why 42" plasma is available at the price of 32" Full HD LCD? Is it worth putting moeny on plasma? The Plasma has resolution of 1024*768 while Full HD has 1920x1080p. I am confused like anything now. Please guide me guys.

PV80 (or is it PV8D?) is available for 43K at some Croma outlets. I liked its matte finish better than the glossy effect of the newer Pannys. But one had better make sure they don't palm off a store display model, because stocks are apparently almost over.

Guys,

Read quite few things about Plasma and LCD. I am all game for plasma in 42" if it comes in my budget - 40K. As of now I got a quote for following:

1. LG 42PQ60: 47K. This seems to be pretty on the upper side.
2. Panny VIERA TH-P42C10D: 45K.

Anybody from Pune got lower quotes for the above said models? If yes, from where?
