re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

This is for a person I know. He has a budget of 30~35K. He was looking for 32" LED. I would like to suggest him plasma. The ones I found in the budget are LG 42PA4520 (34K) and Samsung PS43E400U1R (33K). I didn't find any review on these. How are these TVs? He wants to keep the TV for atleast 5 years. He is on cable & unlikely to move to DTH.

I have just configured the Brightness, Contrast, and Color according to my liking. I like the Contrast to be very low so that it dosnt hurt the eyes at all.
My question to all of you is, how do you do calibration ?
Is there a link which gives us the exact steps to do the calibration ?
If you can post this information it will be very useful.

These kind of dvd's have short clips where the clip keeps playing along with instructions on what settings to change, one at a time.

Eg: Setting the right black levels.

There would be a guy wearing a black blazer + shirt + tie
When rightly calibrated you can see 3 different shades of black for each of the above. An incorrect setting would not make the shirt/tie visible at all, all would be blacked out.

simple answer is - No. Just get a new TV. Get a used on from your friends at even better discount than getting an used one from shop.
I would be interested in display pieces, especially with a plasma since it is possible to see the hours it has been used. Also, I can check for "burn in" and buzzing problems before hand.
It is like buying a car with engine running in already done for you.
But display needs closer inspection.

I am waiting for his response too. I can try and pickup a TV from Mumbai if Bass&Trouble provides me a reference and if the price is 'much' lower as indicated by him/ her.

Thanks. Looks good, but a bit pricey.

What size are you talking about? That's the price of a 50.

50 inch GT50 for 1.15L and 50 inch ST50 for 95k is the best I could manage to negotiate.

You were talking about which size Ajay?

You have a PM.
For 50 inch, I got a better offer last week. It was around 1 lac.

Who is Ajay?

As time progresses, prices should fall. We should hear some information from Panasonic on 7th or 8th January - 2013 lineup. That should affect the prices I hope.
It is a pity that we are paying much more in India for the same TV which is available for about 1000-1200 USD in the US.

Maybe it is because of lower volume of sales in India or higher import duties or both.

Edit: Just came across this online offer:

TV: UA46ES7500M 46"Series 7 Slim LED
Price: 1.09 lac
http://www.infibeam.com/TVs/i-Samsun...ml?id=Black-46

Good offer? Good TV?

Isn't it better to go for a Toshiba or Phillips? I saw many 32" HD Ready LEDs at the same price point on Flipkart.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

In the process of finalizing Panasonic - LED 42E5D (~53K) and Plasma 42XT50 (48K). I like the plasma for the picture quality, but the lack of a full HD is a big negative, but on the brighter side, it comes with a 3 year warranty. Any recommendations between these two displays?
Also how much would an Panasonic extended warranty for the LED cost? Are extended warranties for LEDs required?

few months back, I was hunting for a bigger unit and gradually eliminated the LCD/LED technologies and finalized the Plasma. Then made mind (& budget) for 42XT50, but 42UT50 was found quite good. In Sep12 I purchased the 42UT50, and quite happy with the PQ and even sound for a general consumer.

The Pana 3 yr extended warranty was bundled free, and just had to scan the invoices etc and email them - in return you get email with an unique code letter confirming the warranty ! note, the extended period mentions only covering the panel, but that should be fine too.

@SUN

wondering when these TV would HIT Indian stores considering the 50 series are not available anywhere in india.

They have added a host of smart features and hopefully worked on some screen updates as well.
