Re: The Headphones Thread

After months of deliberation, I got myself the Bose QC35 Series 1 @INR22.4k (one of the last 2 available pieces in Pune). Tried out the Sennheiser PXC 550 and Sony WH-1000XM2 extensively over a couple of hours in the same environment before settling on QC35SI.

Here is a summary of my findings and the reason why I chose the Bose.

Sony WH-1000XM2

Most widely rated and reviewed as the best wireless headphones around $300-$350 price range. Went in with high expectations.

Pros:
1. Fantastic Bluetooth connectivity. Got range over 100ft despite walls and other barriers.
2. Best noise cancellation of the 3
3. Service centres galore.
4. Fancy features

Cons:
1. Too Bass heavy - to the extent details are muddled. For the hype around this pair of headphones, came out very disappointed.
2. Ear cups not very comfortable for my ears.
3. Known to go bad.

Sennheiser PXC 550
These came in at the last moment.

Pros:
1. Comfortable
2. Great bluetooth connectivity
3. Decent sounding pair of the ones tested.
4. Wife loved them
5. Fancy features at par with Sony

Cons:
1. No service centre in Pune
2. Low Bass

Bose QC35 Series I
These have been on my mind for the last one year.

Pros:
1. Best sounding headphones (by a fair distance, IMO) with great sound stage for a ANC headphones.
2. Excellent NC. Second best in this lot
3. Most comfortable
4. Reliable Bose service having been a customer for 3 years.
5. Old school looks

Cons:
1. Bare bone features
2. A generation old
3. Below average bluetooth connectivity

What won it for the Bose is the balanced sound and the fact that the series I was 7k cheaper than the other two.

Re: The Headphones Thread

What's the best one can get for less than 1000 INR?

Music is not the priority. I need it to attend conference calls. A built in mike is also not needed.

Re: The Headphones Thread

I am a bit of a headphone/Earphone nerd and have owned multiple pairs int the last decade.

1. Ultimate Ears Triple Fi Pro's - My first introduction to an expensive IEMs. The best sounding earphones that I have owned. When I first got them, it was like listening to my music all over again. All the nuances and details that I was missing earlier were so apparent in these earphones especially the high quality flac files. Consequently, these earphones also highlighted any flaws in the music as well. A poorly encoded mps3 will sound just that, poor.

2. Nokia BH-905 - My first introduction to active noise cancelling headphones. There were the most advanced noise cancelling headphone of their time when Nokia was a giant. Turning a switch on and eliminating noise felt like magic. They are still very competitive when it comes to noise cancellation but passive cancellation is pretty poor given they just sit on the ears rather than having ears sit inside them. The sound quality is pretty average as well. Turning on noise cancellation does make a difference to the tone of the sound which is not good.

3. Yamaha HPH 400 Pro - Wired high res headphones which sound awesome but god are they uncomfortable. They clamp so hard that I used to get headaches using them.

4. Bose QC35 II - By far the best overall headphones I have ever owned. Noise cancellation is magic (I sometime still get the pressure on my ear feeling though). You have to turn noise cancellation off to hear how much noise they eliminate. I like the sound signature as well which could be due to the fact that I am pretty used to Bose sound. I have Bose in my car, my sound dock and now my headphones. The reason they are the best overall is majorly due to how comfortable they are to wear. Can wear them for hours without feeling uncomfortable and I cannot stress how important this is. My Yamaha's may sound better but I cant wear them for more than 15 minutes as they clam down so hard that I feel the blood flow around the ears is disrupted. Bose's are expensive but totally worth it given the utility, sound and overall ease of use. People tell me that they are also god send for air travelers. Havent traveled since I have gotten them but planning to soon.

Re: The Headphones Thread

I listen to music on my LG v30 which is supposed to power even 600 impedance headphones.

I am not looking at those [money matters :P]. What i require though is a headphone which is above 50ohms and has active noise cancelling. Most of my listening is on trains.

I have a Sony MDR10RNC which gets to 50ohms when on NC mode but NC and Music seldom go hand in hand.

Any suggestions? Less than 30k

Re: The Headphones Thread

I was looking for a noise cancelling wireless headphone for a while. Have gone with the Sennheiser HD 4.5. It's on the way. I didn't like the way the Plantronics Pro Beat 2 looked and as per reviews it's a tad heavy.

Re: The Headphones Thread

Guys, need a tech solution please.

Need to connect 2 bluetooth headphones to my TV, is this possible? is there a bluetooth splitter of sorts?

Currently connecting only 1 BT pair or using my old infra red 2:1 headphones setup, which has very average sound.

Been using old Philips infra red 2:1 headsets, sound quality is very average.
BT audio usually supports only 1 device in parallel. A friend had a similar requirement and I asked him to get FM tuner and then use multiple devices tuned into that frequency. SQ will obviously not be great.

Came across this, mentions 2-1 possible.

Worth trying?

I am using this for more than a year, no issues:

More expensive options if you want better build quality and sound quality:
