Re: The iPhone Thread

Sister bought a iPhone 5 from a Canada Apple store. Now how do we unlock it to accept Indian sim cards ? Any pointers for online shop or shops in and around Mumbai ?

Me too. It's really addictive. Initially I was disappointed about waiting till repairs are complete or having to use gold coins to have instant repair. But it did make me more careful driver and once we get 5 6 cars then service wait time isn't much of an issue.

39k is good price. I think shop18 is a network18 company and hence can be trusted.

I brought mine at 43000 in February with warranty. Had my earpods replaced for free as the right side stopped working after a month. Actually I think it was due to careless use and not a quality issue by Apple.

Love the earpod covers but I tend not to use them as its kind of time consuming to neatly wrap it inside the cover each time I use it. So I used to keep it open in my bag and it often used to get stuck inside between other stuff while I pull it out and that's what I believe as the main reason why the earpods failed working . Anyways the reliance Apple store happily replaced it

I plan to get an unlocked iPhone 5 from US. Will the warranty work in India? Are there any concerns I need to be wary of?

US warranty for iPhone is not valid in India. To get it repaired you will have to go to a third party shop.

If you are in US I would advise you to open and check it on spot for any marks of the metal and/or any software issue (like screen flickering) which would warrant a replacement.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Has anyone availed of that buy back offer for iPhone 4? I have a very old iPhone3G from the US and am looking at getting that buy back scheme for a new iPhone 4 as a gift to mom. She doesn't need anything fancy but her only requirement is facetime with my sister.

If I can get 7K or more off using this scheme it's a very good option imo. Any dealers in bangalore whom people have availed the offer from?

You can avail the offer at various Redington India authorised retailers or the electronics stores like Croma , Ezone , Jumbo , Vijay Sales , Spice Hotspot , Reliance Digital , or the Mobile Store .

You can get Rs.7000 off on iPhone 4 retailing at 26,500 against your old iphone 3g.

But i am not sure if the offer is valid today. As per my info the offer ended yesterday, still you can give it a shot.

I hope you know facetime won't work over 3G.

Thanks! Let me try out today or on the weekend.

Yeah right now my dad uses an iPhone4 which we use for facetime with sister but when he is at work, mom can't facetime with sis. So thought of getting one for mom as well or the iPad mini.

Vid, I don’t know about any buy back offer, but even if its for your mom, I will suggest to go with the 4S. I will say the 4 is closer to 3GS, whereas the 4S is closer to the 5 in terms of user experience. Around 25K for an old model looks quite steep.

It's actually 26.5K minus buy back of 7K for the old 3G I have so around 19.5K net. 4S does not have this buy back scheme.

Oh looks like it is but man it's like 12K more for the 4S. Even after the buy back I will have to shell out 31.5K for an older gen phone.

For 31.5K I can get pretty much any other premium phone like the S3, Xperia ZL, Xperia SP and some others.

I need this for my mom to do facetime and nothing else. I was looking at the iPad mini but this buyback was tempting.

Suggestion: buy her an iPad mini wifi only. Facetime works, a separate hand phone as she will anyways not use other iPhone features. iPad mini will be cheap and provides better FaceTime experience with more real estate. Cheers!
