Any idea how the phone was disabled?
No Mac, no iphone, and no apple cables. This one is an old one that was lying around at my brother's. Trying some experiments on it for music, and not for calls

I am trying a hard reset:
Power off
Power-button + Home button: Apple logo comes up, goes off, and comes up again
after that nothing.

I believe, you have tried below:

Settings >> General >> Background App Refresh

Turned off all unnecessary apps working.

From the little bit of research on the web, there is no way of doing it without iTunes or iCloud account. Maybe a local iphone repair store can be of assistance in getting it up and running. Since it is an old one, there is no risk of losing warranty etc. You can give that a try.

* No itunes account
* No backup - and no backup to be restored.
* Just need to get it up & running

Only way to unlock is if you can connect it to the last PC it was used to sync with. Even if there's no iTunes currently on that PC(or laptop) a fresh download will help.

Another option is tricky, but you'll have to open up the phone and replace motherboard ( basically every chip that has any memory device on it). This could cost you more than the phone itself - which is a main reason why iPhones are not a lucrative devices to steal. Yes you could use the components like display, buttons etc but it can never be used like a phone/iPod or anything again.

Edit, there's hope if that device has never been synced with iTunes or not set up find my iphone in iCloud - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204306.

Can create a new account, but cant connect to the old account - or to the PC it was last connected to.

You would need iTunes installed, even if on a regular PC, as well as a cable to connect the phone to the PC, to be able to reset it. Even if you do, when you activate the device, it will ask to enter the Apple Id password last used on the device, if the Find my iPhone feature was enabled previously.

Yup, that will release the phone from the Find my iPhone feature. However, i still think you would need the Apple id password to activate. But if your bro knows the password, it should be easy then.

Just sharing an information for potential Jio users with an iPhone. I had a chat with their tech support and they confirmed there is no WiFi calling facility as of today on Jio network.

Peculiar problem for me with Vodafone 4G sim in chennai ! I get 4G signal with this sim in my Moto G turbo but not in iPhone 6 . But recently when I was in Bangalore with same combination of Vodafone sim+IP6 - got the 4G signal ! Additionally I have another Airtel sim which works ok for 4G data with same iPhone 6 here in Chennai .
So what's with this bad combination of Vodafone 4G in chennai circle with IP6 !?

Vodafone/Airtel would be on different LTE Bands. Airtel uses 2300 and 1800 MHz Bands while Vodafone uses 2100 MHz Band.

Did you buy iPhone 6 in India ? What is the model number (it would be something like A15....) ?

What was the exact question in this case? AFAIK , Jio doesn't support WiFi calling on any phone (even on their own Lyf ones). So it's not a new info.
VoLTE is the only way to place calls and it works on iPhone 6 and later

I bought this last December through Flipkart sale and model is A1586. Band should be the only reason otherwise I don't see any ! May be also Vodafone 4G in chennai is just new , don't know whether they are experimenting , I just hope they do ! I will wait for any Chennai BHPian comment .

The iPhone Thread

Guys a weird thing popped up in my mom's iPhone 6. She asked me to check her phone today for an SMS she received couple of days back. But the date shows its from 2002. How is it even possible. I checked the phone's date and it is current. Last week her phone went into a trance as it got hung up with the busy/buffering sign in her middle of screen. The phone could not be used till it's battery died. I came back from my office tour plugged it in the charger and it was working fine. I am attaching a screenshot of the SMS. Let me know if anyone has any idea. The iPhone Thread-imageuploadedbyteambhp1487568698.126124.jpg

P.S: my mom is freaking out.
