And the best part:

- I was walking down at a book store. Came across a good book. Wanted to buy. But on second thoughts, opened kindle app on my Android
- The book was listed for 80/- (as against 140 on paper at the bookstore)
- One click, through the phone and book was in my amazon library.
- Started reading there itself on my phone, while family shopped.
- Came home, opened big screen on the computer and started from where I had left it on the phone !
- And then later when I go to sleep will pick it up where I leave it on the computer, on to my Kindle!

Now thats real technology ! Amazingly simple and simply amazing !

Re: Amazon Kindle

Any feedback on the new paperwhite Kindle?

I do a LOT of PDF related reading and am wondering if I should take the plunge into this.

PDF's are a weak point of kindle.
It will display the PDF as it is. Which means that a lot of space will be eaten up by margins. Custom zoom of PDF is still not implemented to the best of my knowledge. Which means you cannot zoom to just fill the whole of screen with text. The preset zoom levels make it a pain to read it.

I will say look at Sony Reader. I think it has custom zoom option.

Yeah, I've got a feeling even converting them to a mobi format might not be very helpful.

If you convert them to mobi then the whole layout will get messed up horribly. Competent converters are simply not there.
Right now the best way is to get the .chm equivalent of the .pdf file. And then convert it to .mobi.
This one gave best results.

Do check out the Sony Reader pdf zoom functionality in person before putting your money down on Kindle.
That will be the best way out I guess.

Best reader for PDF should be the 10 inch tablets. Because none of them would render the pdf and scale it accordingly. They would reproduce it as is.
So in that case, the bigger the display, the pdf gets viewed better.

Well, after much hankering about, I just noticed that the Kindle DX seems to be best suited for PDF reading because:

1. Display: 9.7" diagonal paper display with latest generation E Ink Pearl technology

2. Built-In PDF Reader, so can handle native PDF's

3. Zoom into any area of a PDF up to 300% and pan around to more easily view small print and detailed tables and graphics.

Now here's the catch. The damn thing isn't being manufactured anymore.

Does anyone here have a Kindle DX? I read an earlier post from a member who actually wanted to sell one! Would love to hear about the PDF support straight from the guy.

And, I've just borrowed a Kindle keypad (it doesnt mention a model name anywhere) for a few days to do some reading on it and find out what all the hullaballoo about the eink screen is.

Thats very true. A few friends of mine have it and they are extremely happy with it thanks to the large display.

Do you suppose I can meet one of them and actually take a real hard look at it? We could PM each other to take it forward if you feel its alright. I just want to see it for myself before making a purchase (if I can...). Videos and pictures online dont do much justice.

Thanks eitherways

But even if you were happy with it, how do you get one? Amazon does not sell that any more.

Of the two, who I knew, one changed to the new Kindle in exchange. The other I am not sure because, its a three year old device.
