I have the ZR. Has some wifi BT and NFC issues and the only solution is to replace the handset. Fantastic phone at 25 K when I got it. Look well before choosing any Z series Sony for wifi / BT/NFC problems. This is reported to be a connector issue on the motherboard.

I am so disheartened even to walk into a service centre.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I've never used BT ...but Mrs G does! WiFi too, of course. Did your problems get fixed? Is it possible that it was with one batch?

This was my favourite out of the options so far! :(

Why don't you look at Moto X 1st Gen at 18k. One of the best phones at that price with guaranteed update to Android L, decent cam and nice performance.

Do check out the 1st gen Moto X. For 18k, it's a steal.

Stock android should keep it running lag free for a couple of years or so, the ambient display is truly awesome, and it has very good build quality as well.

The camera, well it's not the best, but hey you can't win 'em all.

The trouble is that camera is high on her priority list.

Looks like the One Plus One is coming to Amazon.in instead of Flipkart.

@Thad, this should be exactly under your 20K budget for the 16GB version. You may want to wait for this beauty!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I was just gifted a Asus Zenphone 5. Its a nice 10k budget phone with good UI and camera quality. Battery lasts 1 day. Good processor with 2 GB ram at the price point.

I would say Redmi 1s is 85-90% of the Asus. The cost is 40% less so Redmi 1s from cost point of view is a winner.

Asus has better plastic quality, is slim light weight and doesnot heat up!

Overall in budget phones I liked both of them. Far better than micromax, lava, karbon and other phones in the same range have to offer.

I just ordered one. It's on its way. :-)

The invite system is just a way of generating hype. Usually, anybody who buys a Oneplus one gets a couple of invites. I haven't received them yet. On the contrary there are plenty of people on eBay India who are selling these invites. I bought one for INR 500. Its still worth it. Then you order the phone. I am getting a friend bring it for me from the US. If I get any invites I will let you know.

You need to beg :P The global invites are easy to find but amazon will only accept India specific invites. So if you want one invite and are ready to get it shipped from US using parcel forwarding service and not to forget the customs charges then I can find an invite for you. PM me your email id.

Yes, seems like Amazon needs an invite too. The preorder for this phone had opened on 19 th this month, but still had a waiting for 3-4 weeks. So I jumped the queue with the invite.

The phone it seems (my friend has used it) is quite amazing for its price point. He pit it against his HTC M8 and says that it beats the HTC fair and square in terms of sheer speed. The phone is very slim and good to hold. It has very loud speakers and says is almost as good as the HTC's stereo speakers. The only sort of a downside is that the screen is not as great as the HTC's. I have a Nexus5 myself and the screen is nothing to croon about. So for me it surely is good step above my Nexus5. :-)

@Thad, droop the ZR. Somebody else here had replaced it under warranty. No, the issue is not with a batch. It is common enough on XDA to justify a product recall.

I don't have the time or energy (mostly for personal reasons) to go to the service centre, so living with it.

For those going gaga about Amazon, I purchased a 1K case for my ZR. It was described as leather, which it was not. That is when I noticed that the package was not accompanied by a voucher. After exchanges with the seller, he asks for return, and I go to Amazon's return page, only to find, approximately 2 months back, that it does not exist!

By then, due to the wifi issue, I decide not to use the mobile for long, and won't waste energy on this further.

But the consumerist in mre is not dead, yet.
