OMG.. if this news is indeed true, then it is indeed boom time for enthusiasts on a relative budget . The much sought after Sport version to finally hit our shores? Can this really be true, or is this yet another bubble of hope soon to be pinpricked by Maruti??

Suzuki Swift Sport draws rave reviews,

There’s no official 0-62mph figure yet, but with its flyweight chassis flattering the power level, a time of around 8 seconds could be possible. However, it’s the handling that delights most here.

The Swift’s steering is direct, precise and nicely weighted, and the suspension set-up means the car stays flat as it resists body roll well in tight corners. It turns in briskly with almost no understeer, and brakes with very little pitching and the overall feeling is one of plenty of stability.

The Suzuki Swift Sport is a hot hatch with a mission: to show off the limits of the brand’s athleticism, in a small, funky, and great-to-drive package. And from its stylish, well-proportioned body, to its lively on-road performance, this supermini is an instant success.

the Swift’s red-edged digital read-outs serve as a statement of intent, providing everything from fuel consumption to lateral acceleration, turbo boost and even G-force information.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

As reported earlier by ET, Production run of the NEW GEN SWIFT starts.

Production of the old Swift has stopped. New Maruti Swift launch in Feb 2018.

Most dealers have no stock of the existing SWIFT, in such cases, Swift bookings to be converted to New Gen Swift.

The chances launch of a Swift sport, in it's international guise, are next to nil. How can Suzuki give Swift, the cheaper of the two siblings (Baleno), get a more powerful engine?

And then there is the issue of cost..the Baleno RS, with a somewhat modest power engine, itself is priced atrocious ly!

Swift Sport will most likely retail through NEXA, Baleno RS could be axed . Anyways this will happen only in 2019.

Baleno has always been projected(even internationally) as a family hatch. Swift does the duties of Sporty impractical hatch. So 1.4 in Swift and 1.0 in Baleno is pretty much the norm abroad too.

Swift Sports, if it comes in the same spec as Japan will easily cross the 12L rupee mark.

Looks like Maruti has stopped Production of the current Swift and will focus now on the upcoming release: New Maruti Swift launch in Feb – Old Swift bookings to be converted to new Swift deliveries

Maruti Dealers in Bangalore are also accepting Bookings for the 2018 Swift with a booking amount of Rs.5000/-

MODS: Please merge with the previous thread.

Okay - here is an update on the bookings in Bangalore. Bimal is taking bookings for Rs.5000/- for 2018 Swift. They claim they have already taken 7-8 bookings.

Now if one calls any other Maruti dealer in Bangalore like Pratham, Kalyani or Surakshaa they seem to say they have not received any message from Maruti-Suzuki to start bookings for Swift and are not yet taking bookings. Seems strange.

Has anyone booked the 2018 Swift - Are bookings really open?

After reading your post I just called up the MD of a dealership here who denied anyone taking booking for 2018 Swift officially at least till Feb 2018 because the speculation is that the car will be released after Auto Expo.

However he also said that few dealers may be taking booking in the name of "New Swift" who will later convert these bookings for new Swift when officially booking opens. This is a known trick mainly by the sales staff and not anything to do officially with Maruti.

So Bimal execs may he right in what they claim or its just another smart way to manage sales.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

Does anyone else here think the new Swift will be a tough sell, especially since the pricing is in Mini SUV territory? Having driven it around (the automatic) I can say the space issue is taken care of. Engine, Id rather not comment as it was UAE spec.

To me the rear seems to resemble to the hatch of the Liva somewhat. Compared to the exotically stylish front the rear is unmatched. Wish Maruti Suzuki would have done some better work.

In India Maruti is expected to employ the same 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor (84.3PS at 6,000rpm and 115Nm at 4,000rpm) and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine (75PS at 4,000rpm and 190Nm at 2,000rpm). The engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Maruti could also thrown in an optional CVT automatic gearbox, given the rising popularity of such transmissions.
