That’s a great comparison. Thanks for this. By any chance, would you know where the VW Passat 1.8TSI stands?

T-ROC on-road price equals the Ex-showroom price of the Skoda Karoq! I think T-Roc does make much more sense then the Karoq. It’s nearly the same car; I would say close to 80-85%. Except for the few mm of additional space, 3 more airbags, powered driver seats & a few minor goodies; there isn’t any strong reason to spend 5 big ones over and above the VW.

I think the Karoq just made things easier for the T-ROC.

It's actually even worse for the Karoq. The T-Roc is a good 1.5L cheaper in Delhi than the Karoq's ex showroom. The on-Road price I received from my dealer comes to roughly 23.5L.

Even if you consider the Karoq to be say half a segment/ a segment above the T-Roc they should have priced it at around 23.5L ex-showroom for it to have the same segment positioning as the T-Roc.

Re: The Volkswagen T-Roc, now launched @ Rs 19.99 lakhs

I just saw the Troc in flesh and I am really disappointed. The interiors are cramped, particularly in the rear.

The leather seats look after-market, it is 2 or 3 colour leather swatches stitched together. Looks really childish and stupid.

The rear suspension does not look like it's fully independent.

The sound system is awesome.

The entire trim is hard plastic and looked really bad. It was not even to the level of my Polo GT quality.

Finally the Deal Breaker for me is the absence of Cruise Control. There is no cruise control. Perhaps I did not realise this earlier, but this is a glaring omission.

The boot is strictly average size, only two suitcases at the most.

Definitely not an independant rear suspension.
It is clear from the photos that you have attached.
I think they call this the torsion beam setup. Not sure. Could be wrong also on the technical name for this sort of setup.

As expected, it is a torsion beam rear suspension.

Thank you for peeping underneath and snapping the photos.

I guess all speculation can be laid to rest that this is a plain and simple torsion beam and not a multi-link unit.

Now where's Timothy. Need to see if I can get a treat from him.

The Volkswagen T-Roc, now launched @ Rs 19.99 lakhs

Surprising there is no cruise control on a 20 lakh car when the polo Highline plus at 8 lakhs gets it. This is really dumb on the part of VW to go for this configuration for the CBU. I am sure they could have spec-ed this any way they want for the a few hundred units they are importing. In any case, shows why the T-Roc is priced so much lower that the Karoq, the Karoq seems to have much better quality interiors and seems to be the top spec among the 1.5TSI ones, that is being imported.

However, one has to admit from the photos that from the exterior, the T-Roc is a looker and really drool-worthy!

Hey Vidyut, can you share your perspective on the interiors (hard plastics et al.) compared to the head on competitors i.e. top end Seltos/Creta, and Jeep Compass DCT?

I feel we (the bhpins) often compare good/bad out of context on the forum. i.e. stating interiors of T-Roc are poor, compared to existing Octavia, or torsion beam compared to erstwhile Jetta (maybe because they same from the same brand) instead of the competitors it is pitted against.

For e.g. I never heard anybody complain about torsion beam setup on Corolla, but we heard a lot of complaints on the same topic for Octavia TD - even though the two cars are pitted directly against each other.

One of the few auto-journos I like, besides tbhp, agrees on the mediocre quality interiors:
What is your take, buddy?
