Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

Here's my simply rule when it comes to getting the car home: The day a new car comes home is always a good day. No two ways about it. I always brought all my cars and bikes home the day it was ready to deliver. Luckily for me, there is not too much pressure at home to do this on a particular day.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

Absolutely not a believer of all these muhurthas for any thing to be done.

But, I am a person who strongly believes and obeys parents. If my mother says no, that is the end of it.

My father was a priest and he always used to suggest following days. And my mother used to select the nearest day and used to give go-ahead.

Thithi wise
Dwitiya(2nd day after new moon day or poornima day)
Thrithiya(3rd day)
Panchami(5th day)
Sapthami(7th day)
Dashami(10th day)
Thrayodashi(13th day)

Day wise
Sunday
Monday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday

Month wise
Vaishakha
Jyestha
Shravana
Bhadrapada (only till 1st 15 days)
Karthika
Margashirsha
Magha
Phalguna

The AND logic of all the above used to be a good muhurtham

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

This thread couldn't have come at a better time!

The i10 used by my wife is 11 years old now - though done only ~38,000 kms.

Since two years we were procrastinating buying a car because our building was under major repairs and renovations and we didn't want any thing to damage the new car.

Finally work in the building is nearing completion and my anniversary is on the 25th of Feb and I booked a new Polo GT - a surprise gift for her.

Why Polo GT? Personally I think it's too overpriced but my wife has a thing for germans and wouldn't touch better japs or others over a German. Thus, in the hatchback segment I had no choice. Though I'm really scared because I'm taking a 11+ lakh rupee gamble on her reaction to this surprise!

Anyways, regarding the topic. My dad and me have been firm believers that the day your car is ready for delivery is a good day and the time you can go to pick it up is a good time! At home we have never been too inclined on Mahurats much to the chagrin of my mother.

I usually walk in, take the car and drive out.

Remember the saleslady's surprise when I took delivery of the i10?

Quote:
The sales lady was surprised to see me come alone instead of full family and without a garland and "pedas" for the car. She offered to do a pooja for the car as well but i refused saying just finish the formalities and letme drive away fast.
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...of-review.html (Got a black eye! i10 AT Asta (Kappa engine) With Sunroof Review)

However, my wife is a different story! An MD and ICU specialist, she still believes in this and I dare not take a risk lest she give me a lethal injection at night while im sleeping.

So, delivery is on Thursday (25th) and I googled good time to take delivery.

The damn results are so confusing. One website gives a slot which is good and another website says this time slot is bad.

Im so confused which afternoon time to take her for the surprise - can't do morning since it's my son's online school time. Still have to decide on spinning a story on how to take her out to the showroom.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

As a working professional in IT land, convenience takes precedence over any auspicious muhurat. Hence, I have got all my vehicles delivered on Saturdays.

Advantages of Saturday are
1. Lesser traffic on the road especially in the first half. This makes driving the brand new car home from the dealership stress free.
2. Many people don't take the delivery on a Saturday and hence yours will be one of the few deliveries happening on that day. Flip side is there will be many more sales walks-in. But overall you will get much more support from.the staff on a Saturday
3. Compared to Sunday, when lot of dealership staff will be on leave, Saturday will have full strength staff
4. Customary pooja can be done on Sunday morning
5. More weekend time to check out the new car

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

As someone rightly mentioned, The day a new car comes home is always a good day, I would prefer any day, In fact, I can't contain my excitement about getting a new car home. However, I do check with my parents if they have some date in mind (a closer one though!). I had to get an i20 at the end of March 2017, when I checked with my parents, they asked me to wait till April first week. I waited and got the Rapid home (my preference shifted from i20 to Rapid and did everything to cancel the car which was ready for delivery and do formalities for Skoda).

My wife's family is getting the all-new i20 Asta (O) 1.0 DCT (Starry Night) and the muhurat they set is on Shivaratri on March 11. They booked the car in Jan and waiting for close to 2 months . If I were them, I would have bought the damn car in Jan itself in the available color (mostly I prefer white which is always available!).

Would it help to buy a inauspicious car on a auspicious day/time?

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

With due respect to lifestyles we lead these days, where Saturdays are the only days we get for our personal works, it is still the day most will get the car being delivered or being able to go on a test drive.

But I feel that our ancient wisdom which has been passed on from generations is something we should abide by, specially when one makes a large scale purchases. My theory is it wouldn't hurt to take some time off from work days, specially in the afternoons to take delivery or make payments.

I have been referring to the following site since years now, it may not be the perfect way to do things but it's the least I follow.
I set the city I am in and check out the Amrit timings of the day.
https://www.drikpanchang.com/muhurat/choghadiya.html

The thing I liked about going by Muhurat timings is that it gives you time to think about the purchase, make a wise decision.

TIP: EACH DAY of the week has Good, Better and Best timings.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

I followed the following "mantra" for my Endeavour and the Z900 - Day I take delivery is a good day and the time I take delivery is a good time. I just make sure that it is not in the "Rahu Kalam" in order to buy peace with my aged parents. That said, my son was born on a Tuesday

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

Never believed in auspicious dates/times. My first car, a pre owned palio, came with an added discount due to an inauspicious registration number. And I enjoyed a flawless ownership experience. I've benefitted from low fares while travelling on inauspicious days. And no, I've never considered it a criterion while picking up any of my cars. And have not had any setbacks with any of my cars in the last 16 years.

That said, many in my social circle, back in India, are either ardent or armchair believers of the concept.

Interesting thread! My wife, mom and mom-in-law decides in my case the auspicious day to bring a new vehicle home and I dont oppose or debate for the wider benefit - Overall Peace. You just need to wait for a week or two but atleast you can drive the vehicle with peace of mind :-)

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

No muhurat followed by me for any of the car purchases. The only consideration that I usually have is to get the car on a Saturday. This ensures that there is no pressure to rush to the workplace either before or after delivery. Also, the next day is always a holiday and it is easy to have a small party or celebration to celebrate the induction of a new member into our garage, and then drive around the new car on relatively empt Sunday roads A great way to have a memorable weekend!

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

While I do believe in auspicious days to an extent, for car deliveries I don't ever recall making any special allowances. However I'd like to narrate an incident which could well be related to this topic.

Over a year back, I was trying to sell a car of mine. The gentleman who came to look at it was a chartered accountant. Liked the car, we decided on a price and he left. I then got a call asking for the RC which I gladly obliged with. A few hours later I get a message that he is sorry and cannot buy the car because as per his family pundit, the numbers on the chassis or engine did not add up to a good number. I was also told that this was the very reason he never bought a brand new car as they could never ensure that.

Of course I was a little taken aback. However the thought did cross my mind if this was just a way to get out of the deal maybe because he found something better and did not want to tell me upfront since he had struck a deal with me. The incident to me was funny and the same time felt a little strange.

Anyone had similar experiences?

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

We have brought home 3 vehicles on a Saturday.

1. Activa (2004-5): Switched from Splendor to Activa. Earlier days crashed a lot because of front suspension setup meant the nose lifted under heavy front braking (Unlike telescopic suspension which dives under braking.) It was labelled cursed by relatives but didnt matter to us, as later ran well and found a lot of utility.

2. Swift (2006): Still own this gem and everyone prefers to drive it over a later bought Ritz (2014). Covered over 2,50,000 kms and still in our ownership.

3. Pulsar 180 (2006): Ran well till this year. RC expired and bike scrapped in January 2021. Toured north India with this bike. Kms unknown as odometer went kaput long time back.

All in all a good experience with vehicles bought on days traditionally not considered auspicious. We stick to availability of model/colour and discounts.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

Thanks GTO for this wonderful topic!

IMO There are three aspects that can be looked into for muhurat (and I speak about vedic astrology and methods here):

1. Proper muhurat days when moon is in a conducive nakshatra (can even be a Tuesday or Saturday!).
FYI moon changes nakshatra every 2.5 days, and there are 27 nakshatras (some also believe in a 28th called Abhijit). Note that I say conducive because no nakshatra is bad, and none is good - it depends on the event. For example moon in pushya, a highly nourishing nakshatra, is excellent for starting all good things except marriage!

2. A good chowghadiya on any given day (changes every 1.5 hours in a day)

3. A good hora (changes every 2 hours in a day)

I follow point no 2 using the "Muhurutam" app and just go for a good chowghadiya (shubh, labh or amrit).

So consider this: If taking delivery on good days like akshay tritiya, and you go for a good chowghadiya, then really nothing else to look into beyond this!

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

In my family the only rule is not to pick up a car on a Saturday. That's it.
Every other day of the week works though I don't prefer Sundays for a delivery.

As far as the time goes, I strongly prefer getting the car around noon.
Nothing better than some nice bright sunlight to check your car before taking delivery.
I know quite a few people who have noticed minor scratches or dinks on their brand new cars just because they took delivery at dusk and couldn't see the slight paint imperfections.

Late evening is problematic in other ways as well. The dealership staff have had a full day of work behind them and you never know what sort of a day it has been for them. I don't want these guys cutting corners during delivery especially paperwork related.
