Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

None in my household follow any auspicious time/day for taking the delivery of a car. I only consider a rainy day as a bad day as I don't like my car covered in slush right after the delivery.

But whenever a topic on car delivery on auspicious day/time comes up, I always cherish an unforgettable incident with my colleague in USA. He is a staunch believer of muhurta and had fixed a particular date and time to take the delivery of his brand new Toyota RAV4. I accompanied him to the showroom for delivery as he was new to driving and didn’t have enough confidence to drive the new car back home. I noticed a huge bag with him while starting from his home. On enquiring, I got to know that the bag had some items for performing Pooja at showroom. His muhurta time was fixed at 11:07 AM. We finished all the formalities at around 10:45 AM and the car was ready for the delivery. Since we had ample amount of time left, I was just having a chat with the sales team about the new Camry that was released while my colleague had started performing the Pooja ceremony outside at the delivery bay. The clock struck 11:07 and we all heard a loud noise from outside. The entire showroom panicked and everyone ran outside to check the source of the sound. My colleague had brought a coconut and banged it hard in front of the car at muhurta time. I’ll just leave it to everyones imagination on what transpired next

(Please note that I’m not making fun of my colleague or the ritual he followed. It was just an unforgettable experience considering the country in which it took place. Everyone at showroom indeed had a hearty laugh and celebrated this unique delivery experience).

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

I/we never had faith or belief in auspicious days or time for purchasing a vehicle, for that matter anything till 2013. Post 2013 we have purchased 3 cars on "auspicious" dates. Surprisingly majority of the BHPians who have commented don't have belief in this. Why I'm surprised is, in our circle we were probably the only ones who did not have belief in this concept. So I kept believing we were always against the trend. Good to know there are a lot of people who think otherwise

A small correction - One cycle of the moon, also known as a lunar rmonth, is 28 days. Therefore, the moon stays a little over one day with each of the 27 nakshatras. It stays in one rasi for about 2.5 days, and there are 12 rasis. So, it stays in each rasi for about 2.25 days.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

Many of us buy a car once in 5-7 years so shouldn't the day you get the car be as auspicious as any other day as per rituals? However, many do follow the date, day and time for deliveries. Infact, I have seen an article on the same by mycarhelpline.com. So far I have not yet followed any such apart from not having the delivery post 19:00 hours. It is more for the fact that it's dark and it would be difficult to check the car thoroughly. Last time we bought Figo S, it was ready for delivery by 10th Feb and my birthday is on the 15th Feb. Parents asked to wait and take the delivery by 15th however I couldn't. Took the delivery on 10th Feb and took her for a long drive on the 15th to celebrate my birthday.

Popularly perceived bad times are opportunities. Ashada is a nice time to buy because you get those juicy discounts.

Absolutely not. Alignment of stars/planets have nothing to do with ownership experience. All vehicles in my household were procured on an ASAP basis, not ASAA (as soon as auspicious)

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

I personally do not believe in the auspicious times, it is much like horoscope matching. Can't guarantee everlasting love nor a life without accidents (cars of course). But not necessary that everyone will choose not to believe in that.

More powerful than auspicious times is your mother's/women last word on it, there is simply no system which can escape this when purchasing vehicles :P Unless they choose to ignore it, I just tend to go with the flow because car is not something we will use and throw in a day. And if something happens, the people will tend to keep blaming us for not following the date, etc. The comic fact is that this blame not only comes from your family, but some unknown guy walking in the street, lol.

I have also personally experienced sales people not ready to deliver the vehicle to you if it is not an auspicious time. This happened with my friend who wanted to get his Activa asap because he was fed up with the traffic. But the sales guy put his foot down and told the delivery will only happen in a reasonable/good time, we can come collect it at time!

I believe in the concept of good vibes, like drishti or negative energy. Doesn't mean I go doing puja for that, but the concept of people sending too much negative energy is something which is more dangerous.

All these good time are mostly pertaining to new purchases, somehow this time thing gets relaxed in the case of second hand purchase. Not always, but very less depending on the buyer/seller.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

Depends on your equation with your mother / wife I would say.
Thumb rule - no Saturday
Any other day - take a pre sign off
If she says no - make puppy face
If she is adamant - negotiate on next soonest date

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

I am not very particular but when I bought the City in 2014, we took delivery on the day of RathaSapthami. This is considered a very auspicious day and since it was just 2 days away from the original delivery date promised by dealer I felt it was OK. I would not have waited if the special date was more than a week away.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

For me - the most auspicious moment is when I get the call from showroom saying "Registration plates have arrived" . Thats when I'm happiest - so thats the moment that makes it all good for me.

I never wait for any time/day. The moment the car is street-legal, I drive it out from the showroom. I prefer my cars to be with me, and not at the showroom/yard.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

No auspicious days for me. In fact I am especially keen on Saturday delivery coz well, I was born on a Saturday! Even my daughter was born on Saturday so it can't really be that bad :P
My first bike fz16 & second benelli tnt300 were delivered on a Saturdays. However, both my first and second car as well as the third bike were delivered on Friday (not specifically chosen)

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

I have always taken my car according to these auspicious timings. This is not because I believe in it, but as many have already stated here - went with what mom suggested. The moment something goes wrong, people will root cause it on not following the traditions and beliefs. What I do instead is to use the buffer time to plan for detailed PDIs, detailed follow up with insurers, loan providers etc. I usually try contain my excitement and wait patiently for the delivery of the car. But I'm the same person who could convince my parents that the horoscope match of 4.5/10 is more than enough for me to get married to my better half. I'm the same person who insisted on not having a horoscope for my son. I believe that culture and traditions should be relevant to the time we live instead of believing in "unknown" stuffs carried over blindly through time.

But it is completely up to each of us on what we should follow - peace of mind is more important. For the same reason, as TeamBHPians we should put our brain to the details and ensure the following - buy a safe car, say no for not wearing seat belts, never take your baby without a child seat, never overload our cars, drive safely.

Re: Auspicious days & times for car deliveries | Your thoughts

I am an exception in my family when it comes to this. For me, the most "auspicious" day for a car/ bike dlivery is the earliest possible day it is available. Period. That is all that matters as far as I am concerned!

PS- 11 years ago, when i was going to take deliver of my beloved Punto, my wife (then girlfriend) was of the firm belief "loha" should not come home on a Saturday (the scheduled delivery day). She told me to move the delivery by a day, but I was just too excited, and went ahead with the delivery without informing her! Thankfully, she's not a Team BHP member or reader, else I would have been signing my death warrant by making this disclosure!
PPS - the car is still going strong 1.5 kms later, just further cementing my disbelief in these so called auspicious days for deliveries!

Never followed them in the past for getting things. If you cut down 5% on the price, will take it even at midnight :P
