Yes the FE will be very low due to driving in dense traffic. The maximum FE is when you are at cruising speed in the top gear. FE drops drastically if you are in a lower gear at low RPM. On top of that idling in a jam consumes fuel but does not add to the distance traveled.

Just to see what is the difference on the highway, I got my car to Pune today as I had some work. Got around 19 kmpl. Its crazy the difference in a traffic jam and on the highway.

On highway you are travelling at cruising speed. In traffic jam you are just burning the fuel but not advancing - so you calculate FE per hour rather than per kilometer.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Kia Sonet GTX+ 7DCT.

Fuel: Petrol
ODO: 2560

Mileage figures:

Overall: ~12.8kmpl (based on accumulated info).
City: ~13kmpl
Highway: ~16kmpl

18.3kmpl (MID) during a highway drive of 120kms without AC in drizzling conditions (that's the only drive without AC). And got 17.2 during another drive in the same conditions, but with AC.

16.3kmpl during a recent trip from Kerala to Bengaluru (640kms, 70% highway & 30% city/rural roads).

Driving conditions for the above-said trip,
  • 14.5 hours drive (7 am-11 pm), includes ~2 hours of idling.
  • AC ON all the time (set to 25), while the outside temperature was 24-26.
  • Two adults and one baby on board, cargo full.
  • Weather: Heavy rain 20% of the time and light rain the rest of the time (wipers on all the time).
  • Tire pressure: 34psi
Notes:
  • Tank-to-Tank test results match the MID values (not sure about short trips).
  • AC ON 99% of the time.
  • I idle a lot (UVO app says 25% of drive time is idling) since traveling with a baby.
  • The average speed during my city drives is ~23kmph and ~60kmph on highways (again based on UVO).
  • I drive around 80-90kmph speed when the road conditions permit, and the max speed is 124kmph.
  • I also did a proper break-in as recommended in the owner's manual.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Honda City Diesel

Kms run: 267 Kms
FE as per MID: 26.2 Kmpl

And, the car was driven at the speeds of 80-90 Kmph on highways as told by our driver. Unfortunately, couldn't take the pic of the MID and couldn't calculate T2T method as well.

BTW, this car's age is 7.5 years old, and, has run 1,21,000 Kms on the odo and is shod with 195/60R15 tyres.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Few days back , I managed to extract maximum FE of 62Km/L over a trip which was 95% covered on the highway and 5% in city on my 2005 Activa.

I was completely shocked to see this terrific Fuel Efficiency on a 16 year old scooter.

Usually the Activa is used 95% in city and 5% on the highway. This time the turntables

Did a tankful and started the trip early morning with a pillion too.
Speeds ranging between 50-55kmph. I went easy on the throttle too combined with engine braking during declines.

Attaching the fuelio log for reference. The previous logs are of 95% city and 5% highway.

Woww that is some insane Fuel Efficiency. I didn't know Tata Nano is this fuel efficient. What are the figures you're getting in city and city+highway combined ?

Hi, these are the actual figures and have been calculated by me using tank to tank method. Our Nano is mostly used on the open highways with minimum interruption that is why it gives great FE.
In the city, it gives around 18-19 kmpl with A/C on and 20-22 kmpl without it. I guess small capacity engine with meagre 37hp really helps the case!
Also, the speeds mentioned are according to the speedometer, so there's always an inaccuracy of 2-3 km/hr.(80 km/hr on speedo is actually 77 km/hr)

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Maruti Dzire ZXI+ (2020)
ODO : 17000 kms
Fuel : Petrol

Trip Raipur to Bangalore
(night halts + sight seeing at Puri, Rambha, Vizag & Vijaywada)
Type : Mostly Highway say 90%
Speed : (on highway) - 80-120 km/hr
AC : all time at 25 deg C
Load : 3 adults + luggage
Kms : 2250, Liters : 116.3
Fuel efficiency : 19.3 km/L

Trip Bangalore to Raipur
(night halt at Nagpur + sight seeing at Ramtek)
Pure Highway driving, AC on full time
Speed : 80-120 km/L
Load : 2 adults + luggage
Kms : 1541, Liters : 78.9L
Fuel efficiency : 19.5 km/L

FE would have been better if highway speeds could have been controlled upto 100km/hr.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Mumbai to Nashik and back with driving in Nashik as well with 100% ac. Also my car has sound deadening in doors, floor and boot lid. Will be adding it to boot floor and walls and the roof too.

Car: 2020 Dzire vxi with alloys and tyres upgraded to 185/65/r15.

Passengers: 2 adults and a child.

Fuel: regular petrol.

Tyre pressure: 30 psi.

Tankfull to tankfull method gave me a mileage of 20.54 so mid shows slightly more. I can better this as while going there I was doing around 100 to 110 whenever possible and touched even 120+ after manas resort to see how annoying the beep gets and its continuous beeping. While coming back stuck to 80-90.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Hi all,

Recently we have picked up a 2018 Q7 40TFSI. Being a 2l 4 pot, I expected efficiency to be around 9-11kmpl but sadly it's giving us only 3-4kmpl in the city. Highways it gives around 8. This seems really low to me. Can someone corroborate on our figures or provide some insight into what might be going wrong?
