I was considering the 1.2 Palio, but I've heard it's a little demanding on the pocket. I'm sure it's a great car to drive, but a fuel guzzeler, I hope Palio owners can shed some light on that. Out of curiosity, what car did you buy?

How much should i pay for a 2003 sixth gen automatic honda accord. Beige colour. 59,000kms done. No body work required. But around Rs.25000 worth of service parts replacement will be required. Tyres will need to be changed after another 5000kms IMO (maybe before next monsoon). Ofcourse music system needs to be changed as well.
What should i offer the seller? he's asked me to quote him a price and will say yes or no. He's too busy to get it himself and frankly didn't remember he had the accord till i asked if he wanted to sell it. (he has around 8cars - the accord being the cheapest of the lot)

The WagonR seems to be good buy but for the 3rd owner Tag. You can check out for a Santro. Its always good to buy a car from the owner directly rather than from an agent...This will save you a cool 20K on your budget. For city driving Santro wouldbe abetter buy than WagonR any day. However a lot depends on your usage too...If you are going to use it less in the city and more on the highway/long drives with of luggage, WagonR would be good. So take a call accordingly.

How much is a brand new similar trim Maruti Esteem?
Depreciate 30% for tyhe first year, and another 25% for the second year. Do not bother what accessories the car has, most cars have the basic stuff and the used car market barely values the presence of the same.

3.40 Lakhs is a bit steep, specially in Mumbai.

Right price should be around 2.7-2.9L. 3.4 L is very high.

Well, I have no Idea about the prices but if I had to buy a second hand car, I'd look for low milage cars - less than 40-45k kms.

I think its OK to go back a bit into year 2000 model wagonRs which have run less.

I have a wagonR 75k+ kms done, works fine. But I think 60-70k is a lot of distance and bad drivers can really make the car hell over that distance.

But then of course budget is the constraint, so its your call to take.

But don't but a 800! - the difference in quality of 800 and WagonR is huge.

About 8L I suppose considering she needs about 50k in expenditure (Tyres + Parts) and more for the audio.

here in Bangalore, there was a 2007 sep model VXI for sale. Run just 7000kms for 3.7L. Considering this was about 6 months ago and the car barely as good as new...its a good price.
You can pay this car 3.00L flat. Nothing more.
Esteem is a good car, will last a good time.

I think 8lakhs for a 2003 sixth gen honda accord is too too much. I was thinking half the price.

Someone is selling a seventh gen 2005 V6 for 11lakhs on this forum.

The new accord is the eighth gen BTW.

Oh you mean the 6th gen?? Sorry, sorry! I thought it was a 7th gen car.

Yes, 4L for a pristine piece is a good price. Up to 4.5 is fine too if the car is in excellent condition.

Check this ad in Mumbai region:
Team-BHP Classifieds - Black 2006 BALENO - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds
An 06 Baleno LXI : asking price was 3.20. Dont know for how much was it sold.
So you can imagine how much an Esteem should cost.
To add : MH 01, 02, 03 (Mumbai reg octroi paid) cost a little more (approx 10k) than MH 04, 43(outside mumbai octroi limits) and others.

If you were buying an Esteem of similar specifications and details for this price from an unknown second hand car dealer I would have said the asking price is on the higher side and negotiate it down to 2.50.
But since this is a known car owned by your friend I think the premium price is worth paying.
By the way, Esteem has been discontinued by Maruti and the new replacement for it is the Dzire.
Why do you have to pay the VAT on a second hand car ?? I couldn't understand this part. What value addition is happening here? It's value subtraction actually.
