Thanks for the quick reply guys. I couldn't loggin for some days, so couldn't respond. I'll try to tape the hinges myself this weekend and see if it works.

I had to make a dash to Hubli two days back. Covered 420Km km in 5:15 hours through some pretty bad roads. The mileage was 16.5 with 34/32 tire pressures.

Even though I up shift early I think I dont increase speed gradually. May be that heavy right foot is causing the mileage to drop

Need help with one more thing. There are fresh tar stains all over the bumper and lower portion on the doors as I had to go through some road construction sites. I tried washing it but it is not going. Could you please suggest what i can use to remove this stains. Can I use diesel itself? Has anyone tried it before?

Wash off the dirt and mud from the body (which you already did), take an ol rug and soak it in diesel and apply it on the body part. Leave it for 5 mts and then rub the tar off with the same cloth. Wash and rinse off with good car wash/shampoo.

Diesel worked great. All the stains are gone, though it took lot of effort as the stains were all over the car.

Thanks Guys..

Locks once set properly should last for 20000 kms atleast. Then again depends on the kind of roads one uses.

Hi Jaggu, recently drove a cousin's Vdi for about 350 km on Chandigarh - Jammu route.
The feeling was awesome. The only drawback being the engine seems to loose the steam beyond 110-120 kmph!
Is this a car specific problem or so?

I guess so, coz mine pulls crazy till 135-140 from which the performance tappers off slowly. Yeah havent tried it for a long while now :(

Exactly. It pulls like crazy at these speeds even in 5th gear, its not tiring at all for man and machine.

I think you must be trying to drive it like a petrol, upshift earlier(3.5-4k) and feel the difference. No point in revving the engine beyond 4k, especailly in the higher gears.

upshifting at 4000 is driving it like a petrol.
best point to upshift is usually 3000rpm.
or even 2500rpm if you want mileage.

It has good won't-let-you-down pull.

It does not have the punch, especially off the mark, that a petrol engine has.

Upshifting at 2000 is just fine. you don't need to go upto 2500.

It pulls like crazy till 140 kmph but after that suddenly all the power saturates... Lack of BHP i guess.

Jaggu. Whats the top speed u have achieved in your VDi? The VDi i had for a couple of days refused to go beyond 160kmph...

I havent really pushed past 140 but did some constant 120-140 on the toll road in my recent trip.

Whats so great about the car is the overall package.

At the end of the day one has a few thrills(deflating certain FFE cars egos)... but if its a fast car people are after then your better of with a baleno or any nice car TC'd

i never had a good chance (safe rather) to explore top speed, best would be somewhere around 145 -150 and things were not bad (acceleration).

@kp: its not the bhp rather the revs that are limiting i feel, this is a diesel car and wont rev out like petrol siblings to 6 and 7 k's lol.

I know others who have pushed it to 160+ and all, kuttapa care to comment?
