Hi Zen owners. Does anyone have any ideas for :

1. Changing dash illumination from the boring green to amber/white? More importantly, has anyone actually done it? Removing the speedo console/speedo wire is quite difficult/tricky!

2. LED bulbs (custom made/DIY) for rear combination lamp ? Opening the plastic moulded reflectors from the assembly is also quite difficult (which will be necessary for inserting a PCB with mounted LEDS).

Any help?

Hi Zen2001,

1. Changing dash illumination from green to other colour is difficult as the numbers are itself painted in green. I guess if you install white LEDs, it'll increase the illumination definitely - but no idea about the effect.

2. Why don't you buy LED back light assembly for Zen from Neolite instead?

Someone has mentioned removing the green stickering from the inside, but I need step by step info from someone who has opened the speedo of the old zen. It's not as easy as in other cars as I'm told. Once inside the console, we can try all colour combinations to get the desired effects.

Regarding Neolite, sent them a query but no reply. Also no car accessory shops in Pune seem to stock their stuff.

I have gone through almost 43 pages of this thread and this was interesting to hear very detailed discussion on the various modifications.

Infect I have recently bought a 1998 Zen Carb and want to go for LPG kit. Pls advice if sequential injection LPG kit is good for carb engines too. If yes, please advice me the estimated cost + pros and cons.

Note I have had a M800 earlier with the normal LPG kit and I had a various issue such as starting trouble, switching over from LPG to Petrol and vice versa. Pls advice if in sequential kit, the same problem is going to occur.

I'm also thinking to fix a LPG kit in my 2000 carb Zen. The car has run 85K KM - in good shape except the rattlings. My daily run is about 70KM - I'm getting 14KMPL with 50% AC. At present LPG is 40% cheaper than petrol (is it correct?). So, in a year I'll reach breakeven point and start making savings.
Is it advisable?

I used a BRC LPG kit with a 50 liter tank in my mpfi zen.I used to get around 12-13kpl on highways .Yeah ...already non existent dicky space will now make ur zen a 2 seater ..as you will have to place luggage on the rear bench

I have installed a lovato LPG kit almost 2 years ago on my carb zen, I don't think its a sequential injection one. However, I've had absolutely no problems with starting (although its advisable to do cold starts on petrol & then switch to gas) & switching between petrol/LPG. I guess the important thing is to "adjust" the settings optimally and keep a clean air cleaner at all times.

Probably you will spend the first 6 months trying to re-adjust your driving to suit LPG, so the mileage figures will not be consistent. With your current mileage of 14km/l with 50% AC, it seems you drive more in traffic than on highways. Then, you will have to accept the sluggishness of the accelerator especially in conditions where you need short bursts to overtake.

Thanks for the input guys.
Boot space is not that important to me - I need the car to be economical. But the age of the car and carb version is holding me back at present.

Mods for a lovely Zen

Hi all,
I finally picked up a 2005 model Zen, it's very well maintained and zen has always been my first love.

Please find the pics below.

existing Interiors with Front Arm Rest fitted - Thanks to Satya (blueraven) - PM me for the price

The top portion of the arm rest can be extended to suit your comfort. I found it a good VFM.

The momo Gear knob:

Mods Lined up:
  • Seat Covers - Pensee leathers (pending)
  • Interiors with carbon fibre trim (pending)
  • Universal Front Arm Rest - done
  • Momo gear knob - done
  • White Alloys - 155/70 R13 Apollo (pending)
  • K&N Stock filter - done
Did some photoshop on how I want my interiors to look like...plz do give me your comments....

I got hold of some Carbon Fibre 3M sticker, so the interior trim could be accomplished, however I'm worried about the red strip on the dashboard. I would love to have a shiny red strip of custom fibre stuck on the dashboard, but how practical is it?....any pointers would be appreciated.

Pretty good. Smoke the tail lamps. The mirror casings should be red. The alloys are super. w/ red lining as well. Paint the calipers and the rear drums to red.
