re: Honda's 250cc Bike : CBR250R!

It's a pity that there is still no news from Yamaha other than Fazer 220/250.

After waiting for so long, looks like I'll have to go with a Honda this time :(

RX135 mate its not about this time or that time it's all about buying the best available product, no doubt about Honda engines reliability and the kind of engineering they put, even I am Yamaha fan but I know what Honda is capable of, even in US market there's lots of Ho Ha about this bike seen some videos as well comparing this with Ninja 250.
IronH4WK even i have seen that white FZ but it comes under premium bike category and no relation with small 250 cc launches, its same R1 engine detuned for better low and mid range torque.

I don't have any doubts about CBR250 being a world class bike. My problem is that, Yamaha isn't bringing anything to directly compete against it. I don't think Fazer250 with 18 bhp output would hold a candle to a powerful CBR250.

I booked one today by paying 5K @ Haiku Honda, Airport Road, Bangalore
Booking number #41

Its the first time in Indian Automobile history that a non-Indian vehicle is sold in India cheaper than other countries. Honda CBR 250 is sold in US for $3999( non-ABS) and $4500 (with ABS). Indian prices are much cheaper than this. I got a mail from Honda saying that its just an introductory price.

This is a pure marketing promotion for this bike for the inital days. Once the sales momentum picks up, Honda would increase the price.

re: Honda's 250cc Bike : CBR250R!

Honda is not really making a loss by selling at this price. Here is the price at the land of manufacturing - Thailand

Standard version =100,500 Baht => INR 1,48,740
ABS version =115,000 Baht =>INR 1,70,200

1 Thai Baht = INR 1.48

Initially I thought the 'two' cylinder engines have that kind of sound, but the Ninja despite being twin cylinder (parallel twin) doesn't have that sound (It sounds closer to a P220 which I own).

So what exactly brings out 'that' sound in bikes like Suzuki GSXR 1000 (which truely makes heads turn more than the visual appeal). Is it the v-twin engine or is it the exhaust system (like the custom tuned exhausts in HD's)?

See my point is that some time back people used to 'modify' Pulsar and Karizma and CBZ's into super bikes. Some of the jobs were well done. But what really took out the sheen of those mods were the ugly 'guddu' 'guddu' sound of the poor single cylinder engines unlike the Monsters like Buzas, R1's, GSXR's etc

You can't make a domestic cat to growl like a big cat; Period.

PS: My office is near Jyoti Nivas Womens College in Koramangala, Bangalore and I know how the chicks head turn when a dude comes up in such a super sports bike with that typical woosh sound!!!
hey Sant!
that humming sound is the characteristic of an inline 4 IC engine. a twin parallel/ in-line cant produce that deep bassy growl. its orgasmic. however, for the record, the pre generation(~91) CBR250RR had an I4 configuration. wish they had revived that one.

Spoke to Kun Honda in Chennai..SP says On-Road price from non-abs version is around 1.7L and with ABS around 2L and a waiting period of 5 months.
Still wondering if to go ahead and book or wait what Suzuki has to offer as the GW 250. Any Suggestions???

That's sweet. What would be on-road price? 1.6L and 1.9L?

Just want to point out that the GW will weigh more, has the exact same amount of power, less torque, a torque peak higher up in the rev range, and will be sold in emerging markets only, like Brazil and China.

What is the ex-showroom price in Chennai? I read it was 1.51L in Delhi for non-abs version.
