Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Got my XUV's service action regarding SRS Airbag software done today. It took hardly 5 minutes to complete it.

I was noticing lesser AC cooling + low blower speed, which also I got checked. The SA, after checking, said it needs AC servicing. Cost for front AC is Rs. 4500 + rear AC 1500 + Gas charges as per actual refilled. He also offered free anti-rust coating worth Rs. 2250 under some ongoing scheme, if i get AC servicing done before 25/2/15.

Are these charges justified and fair?

The quotes for 'AC servicing' appear quite high to me as they do not even include the cost of refrigerant (gas). The steep price explains how they have offered you 'free' anti-rust coating!

Most of these anti-rust coatings are of little or no use. Not worth it, IMHO.

How much has your car run? Anything before 1L km for an A/C service would NOT be required in modern cars. Is there a cabin filter in XUV? Might want to check on that then.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

First get your Ac filters cleaned or replaced. What you say are symptoms of choked filters.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Shouldn't this be covered under warranty? Unless your car is already out of warranty period. How much is the mileage on your car? I see you have 2012 model. Ac service in less than 3 yrs does not sound good and it should be taken up by mahindra at no extra cost.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Mod Note : Please do NOT use acronyms (e.g. ANHC, T-Fort) when referring to cars. You must only use the full Make & Model name for cars. Thanks!

Thought of writing a long term ownership report about the XUV. However, I could never get started! Even had started with 'new car' thread, but could not write enough to get it approved.

Anyway. To cut it short, just an 8 point summary.

1. Why XUV? - Features for the price, the driving experience, power when required.
2. What did I pit it against? - Fortuner (quite a monster, but my purse was not as deep)
3. How do I like it? - Just love it!
4. Are there rattles? - Mine was a Jan 2014 vehicle, niggles range from "negligible to none" (till date, let me add)
5. How is the ride? - I am on the driver seat 99% of the time, from there I just love it. The moment I see this car especially after I have been away, a grin ornaments my face. Oh yeah, the ride, middle and last row passengers do complain about bumpiness. Well! In a Fortuner it was even worse, in my experience (no offense to owners please).
6. After Sales service? - They respond pretty quick, especially if it is an escalation.
7. Will I recommend this to anyone else? - Sure yes.
8. Additional note - This is a camera-friendly Monster!

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Took the white elephant up the hills to put the AWD to some real test.

Handles tricky sections very well. AWD and other electronics give you added peace of mind and you can easily carry speeds into snowy corners, overtake slipping cars by putting all four wheels into soft snow and so on. We were also the ONLY vehicle to climb up the Hotel Hatu road in the last two days. XUV performed brilliantly though I feel the temp display is faulty - never showed under 2 degrees.

Adding some images - i hope other AWD owners also use their XUVs the way it is meant to be

Way to go, getting the beta testing done for the refresh version with zero cost and laughing all the way to the Bank.

Thanks booked in my Scorpio for Monday. Plan to have the issues checked and then take a call weather to have it worked at the A.S.S. or outside.

Umm... sure about it?
I believe its a single tank with a split design.

Check out this image from Debuda's ownership log:
Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review-debuda-xuv013.jpg

See the black portion in the middle of the Y shape? That's the center part of the fuel tank which connects the 2 sides.
