I do admit the downhill part. I've seen 27 descending Bangalore to Krishnagiri, which eventually settled 25.9 when I reached home. 36.6 sounds outrageous though. Did you refuel to find out? Since AFE doesn't show values above 30.
Thanks Narayan! Glad to know that the senior bhpian part of that WA group. I relies on the Suzuki Connect App for fuel efficiency figures.

Regular highways: 16-22kmpl depending upon speed+acceleration habaits+cruise control+ traffic+AC+outside temperature. 16 is minimum.

Regular cities: 10-14kmpl based on same factors as above.

Bangalore: 9 should be minimum for that famous traffic start stop works well in a petrol compared to diesel that frequently shakes things up.

While the lower range 16kmpl & 10kmpl for highway & city seem reasonable for a 1200kg car with a 1.5P motor, I doubt the upper range (22kmpl and 14kmpl) is achievable in regular driving.

Our S Cross has done close to 5k km and with another user behind the wheel, we are getting 12kmpl in city and close to 19kmpl on the highways. Mostly done with 2 passengers in city and negligible luggage. On highways it always carries 4 people and luggage.

My XL6 meanwhile gives 14kmpl in city and around 19kmpl on highways with my natural driving. If I drive with a light foot, maximum I have achieved is 21kmpl, driving solo and minor ~50kg luggage.

Recently I drove with close to 200kg luggage in my XL6, and 4 passengers over some really nasty roads, and the mileage dropped down to 16.xx kmpl. I blame the road surface and frequent braking/acceleration for this poor show.

With petrols, lack of torque is what's responsible for low mileage if anyone is suffering from that. Downshift generously, reach to your preferred speeds quickly and then shift to 5th and cruise with light throttle inputs is my way of getting good efficiency.

Regards,
Shashi

PS: All efficiency figures mentioned are with tankful to tankful method.

It (22kmpl) is perfectly achievable with cruise control set at 75kmph on a not so sunny day or peak summers.

But I must add that a switch from diesel to petrol makes a person lot more prudent and calculating while shaking that right leg over the accelerator.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Dear Good Folks,

I own the pre-facelift S-Cross 1.3 from 2017, and it's only run 26k km. But I've already started experiencing some rattling - windows and seats both.

While some of it can be attributing to my the poor road conditions in Faridabad (almost every road in under construction), but I'm still left a little bemused at the situation.

Would any of you have a suggestion to churn out these issues either by self or at a reasonable price from aftermarket?

Clocked about 6,000 KMs on highways since my last update. We went to explore Jaisalmer and Bikaner in December from Delhi. Drove to Mumbai in January to drop my parents. Did a Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai trip in Jan end, during which odo breached the 1,50,000 KMs milestone!!

Back in NCR this month clocking yet another 1,500 KMs. The car has been supremely comfortable on highways! Going very strong at 1.5L kms. I will be keeping the car for another 50-70K Kms. Tyres will be replaced next month, haven't decided yet but I want to try MRF Perfinza. She will be going in for service next week.

En-route to GOA

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Hi all,
In about 4.5 years of ownership, I have clocked 104k Kms on my S Cross 1.6 Alpha.
Car is going strong without any major issues till now. Stock tyres were changed at 51k, oil pressure switches were replaced at 97k, turbo hoses were replaced at 103k. Apart from these, regular service and small wear and tear parts replacements has kept the car super reliable so far. SA is suggesting clutch replacement, timing chain replacement and injector cleaning in the next 20k Kms or so. I estimate at least another 100k kms of reliable ownership before I change my car.
Not all things are perfect though. I feel the stock audio setup has deteriorated quite a lot. The plastic bits rattle like anything, the leather steering cover started crumbling to pieces.
The biggest grouse from day one has been the light output from the stock 25W xenon projectors. While I have managed with the setup for more than 100k Kms, my drive in the rains yesterday was particularly painful on the Bangalore Mysore highway. Maybe I am getting old and need better light now .
Seeking inputs from other owners here. What could be a clean plug and play solution for the light? Not in favour of projector fog lamps. The beam alignment for low beam and high beam will be suboptimal. And which would be a reliable place in Bangalore to get it done?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Changed my tires to Continental UC6 205/60 R16. I got it for 6.3k/ piece from a tire shop in Kochi. Initial impressions are good. Low noise on well paved roads, grip is predictable and assuring on corners and braking is good. However the tires tend to get little noisy on old surfaces (not broken).

6.3 per tyre that's great, I got mine for 7.5 per tyre

Bangalore prices are 1k/ tire higher. Even in Coimbatore, prices are 7.3k/ per piece.

Maruti Suzuki Scross- Cold Engine Vibration

My Maruti S-Cross Zeta(Diesel) has done 80K Kms. It was a smooth affair so fair. However recently is started getting this vibration when i start the engine in the morning. This happens only when i start cold engine. There is no issues during the day. Contacted Nexa service at Kasaragod. They advised me to change the engine mount. Got it done, however the problem persists.
Kindly advice.

Have you or any other bhpian been advised to change the timing chain? My 2007 Swift with the same 1.3 engine ran 2.5 lakh KMs with the original timing chain and I am wondering if anything has changed now.

I don't see anything mentioned in the owners manual and since I get the car serviced at an FNG, I want to double check.

Oh, ok that clarifies. Upto 80kmph is supposedly the optimum speed for better FE (low engine rpm, lesser air resistance etc).

But 75kmph on a highway ? I wish I could one day gather enough patience to try that on my Baleno. I did a KL-TN return trip last week in my Baleno with speeds on the good TN highways ranging from 100-160kmph depending on road/traffic conditions.

Did the 700km drive on a full 51L tank without any refuelling enroute, which means my FE was 14+. If I could one day drive at 80, guess I could also get those figures. But while I like my cars to be efficient, love the fun of driving more.

Yes, there is nothing mentioned in the manual which makes it very confusing. My trusted mechanic at Motorcraft says there will be a particular noise which will hint towards timing chain replacement. Taking the car for 150K service next week, will check again.
