Cutting through dashboard? You should have opted for a frame, they charge around 1000 bucks for the plastic frame and it can host any 7 inch HU. I got Pioneer HU in my Tank. I agree it is not a perfect finish, there are ugly gaps in the frame and unit. However, I can always at anytime switch back to older HU.

You got the frame Mahindra provides. It has a protruding frame which IMO is a crude attempt to encase the popping out HU. Did note down the part number and all before I bumped into a friend's setup. It was the exact same as yours and honestly I couldn't live with it. The HU is protruding too much and pointing a bit downwards. So I bought a full frame instead. Don't worry, I can still fit the OE system back without a fuss.

I used this

Re: Mahindra TUV300 : Official Review

No, mine is aftermarket frame. The one provided by Mahindra was able to hold MapmyIndia 6 inch HU only and it did not support Android Auto or Carplay. I did not have to cut anything in the frame and it was setup easily without any fuss.

Re: Mahindra TUV300 : Official Review

Just got dash cam installed in my Tank. 70mai brand, costed around 4,000 bucks on amazon and additional 450 for memory card. Videos and pictures look a bit oversaturated, but gets the job done.

It supports 64GB card, but installed 32GB card. Unfortunately it supports only Class 10 cards. I installed class 4 card and it doesn't work

Installation was pretty straight forward. Attached few pictures below.

Re: Mahindra TUV300 : Official Review

Had been to a new Mahindra dealership locally as part of research for a cousin's XUV300.

Casually enquired about the TUV300 and was informed that the AMT variant is no longer available.

There is a new orange colour and completely clear lens and transparent tail lamps with a slightly new infotainment system and cosmetic changes on the front end.
The overall effect of this update is to make the TUV look just that little bit more handsome.

I have the same camera (70mai) as my rear dash cam with a 32 GB memory card. In front, I have Viofo A119 with a 64 GB memory card. Power adapter came with Viofo A119 has got two USB ports and both the cameras are drawing power from the same adapter.

Is this the model with small display? I first thought of going with display model, then dropped the idea as it may distract me while driving. I then came to know that display can be turned off

Yes, it has a small display and screen can be turned off automatically by setting screensaver time.

Turbo Whine/whistle at 1200-1800RPM and hard gear shift

Hello mates, please help me understand the problem with my TUV300 T8 84BHP 2015 model.
TUV300 T8, clocked 136K in the last 4 years 3 months, always serviced at Authorised dealer, AML, Jeedimetla,Suchitra circle since the first service.

After the recent 130K service and 6K of driving under the typical Hyderabad traffic and the Highway run, the vehicle while cruising along at 90KMPH on the ORR, suddenly began giving out a whining sound from the engine area which was clearly audible inside the cabin.
Was able to identify it as the Turbo whistle since heard it from a friend's Scorpio.
The Whining continued even after reducing speeds to 70-80KMPH. Stopped on the side and checked for any loose piping around the Turbo but found nothing.
As I began to start off through the 1st, 2nd,3rd gears, the whining began at even 1200-1800 RPM but as the speeds crossed 60 KMPH and 4th and 5th gears were slotted, the whining stopped but I could still hear a faint whistle until it became clearly audible at 80-90 KMPH.
The whine equates with the accelerator input and release.
i.e. as the accelerator is released to change the gear the whining slows down and when accelerator is pressed it increases alongside. At 90 KMPH, when the accelerator is slightly tapped the whining responds to the accelerator input.
Checked for any leakages under the car - None.
Checked and re-confirmed if the sound was because of Tyre rolling or the Differential but confirmed it thrice since the whining is distinct and clearly separate from both the tyre and differential hum.
Checked all fluids and Engine oil - all full and no leakages.
Spoke to the Service Engineer at AML and he suggested it as a normal Turbo whistle accentuated by a loosely fitted Vacuum hose on the Turbo or the Air filter. Happy with his response that there is no major issue, I reached home after 40 kms.
Today, the whining continued as earlier through the speeds and as I reached my office gate and slotted the 1st gear as the barrier opened, the gear wouldn't slot to 1st/2nd. Pumped up the clutch as suggested by the Security guard and parked.
Now the vehicle has been sent to AML , Jeedimetla ASC.

Request suggestions or Check points on what could have gone wrong and what needs to be asked to the Service guys.

Re: Mahindra TUV300 : Official Review

As a fellow TUV owner, I have a couple of questions -

1. Does the whine exist at idling, as the TUV idles between 900-1100 RPM?
2. Does it increase/decrease when the AC is switched on/off?
3. If it exists during idling, does it increase/decrease during acceleration in neutral?

4. On the non slotting in gear, was the clutch pedal stuck when you pressed it? I guess not as you had pumped it and then probably got it working.

Reasons I ask is that on highways, my TUV T10 (100 bhp) has a slight sound change which disappears when the AC is turned off. The same is applicable on idling.

Also, per my experience, the turbo kicks in after 1500 rpm or so, at a slightly higher RPM in 4th and 5th. So not sure if it is the turbo. Hence the queries on idling sounds.

No, the TUV300 purrs like a big cat.

No change with respect to AC on or off at all speeds whether below 40 kmph or 90kmph

As stated earlier, no whining in neutral.

No not stuck and was freely moving when depressed and released. I pumped the clutch pedal before shifting the gear and it slotted freely. Otherwise the gear would not even slot from Neutral to any gear.

1) Trip 1 - 6 adults + 1 toddler
2) Trip 2 - 7 adults + 2 toddlers

Phew! This is just a part-time 7 seater for crying out loud! If I'd known that my Tank would elicit such (ab)uses in my family, I'd have just gone for a white board Tempo Traveler.

locusjag - You have expressed it so eloquently This is exactly why I love my four year old TUV. It will just take anything you throw at it and just keep performing without complaining. Be it the congested city roads or the highway or no roads it just does not let you down. Yes it has issues, plenty of them , but at the end of the day I can't stop falling just a wee bit in love with my Red Beast (TUV - T8 - 2015)

Please be comforted that you are not alone . I am sure plenty of TUV owners like me, have also been dismayed at the sort of ab(use) inflicted on the TUV 300 by friends and family.

Take care

See if you can PM our member procrj for pointers. The guy has a readymade checklist for virtually anything to do with the TUV!

That is high praise, coming from you sir. I read your travelogue with interest and your writing was so good.
And yes, the TUV is such a versatile car. It's the equivalent of the hardy NFL football player to whom the coach can turn to every time and say "It's time for you to take one for the team" And even the NFL guy would go out and suffer concussions or busted knee caps while doing his thing. The TUV meanwhile incurs no damage!

It takes so much abuse from my family all the time. We've even done urban commutes with 10 people in it (plus rooftop luggage) to and from the airport. My family have tasted blood now and they're sure to go for the flesh every single opportunity they get. The TUV didn't struggle at all and my family don't have any remorse either!

Hello Alton, in my opinion these two are completely unrelated. The whine you hear is a turbo whistle, in fact it the same in every TUV (even mine not being any different) & it is like music to my ears. With accelerator inputs, the turbo spins faster and hence the whine increases.

The gear not getting slotted in 1st or 2nd could be an indication of a worn out clutch plate. Are you on factory fitted clutch, on which the car has run 126K kms?
