Re: Maruti Ignis : Official Review

Our Ignis AMT petrol has undergone a minor accident. BIL was driving our Ignis at <10 kmph over a sewer manhole. Same manhole I drove just ahead of Ignis with my Punto evo and came out unscathed. Look in below photo what has happened to Ignis. Simply pathetic build quality. Engine and most components are placed at lower elevation as compared to MT version it seems. So damage to components behind bumper was big. The "Nexa" gave us a premium delayed service quoting want of most spares! Total bill is north of 50K Premium charge over premium Nexa service too. Thank God we have B2B insurance!

What is it with Maruti and toothy grilles? Can't they think of any other designs. Seems like either creativity is dead or someone at Maruti is hell bent on the toothy designs

The face-lifted toothy Ignis grill looks like an aftermarket Jeep grill, commonly seen on Vitara Brezzas.

More news on the facelift. Who would call the Ignis an “Urban SUV”, let alone “SUV”?! There isn’t even a ground clearance raise!

Ignis was always a SUV outside India in the International markets and offers a 4x4 variant as well. I guess they did not capitalize on that aspect the last time and with the SUVs selling like hot cakes in 2020, they want to use that as a marketing for the same product. With 180 mm of Ground Clearance the Ignis does offer better GC in comparison with the i10/Tiago/ Micra.

How about safety? I see it has scored 3 stars. I really liked Ignis when it was launched but could not buy that time. Eventually when it scored 3 stars, I dropped it from consideration and was fascinated by TATA's scores. New one looks good but same old safety story will make things worse again (unless safety is not a priority).

If you are talking about the time when it was launched I think in the segment it was one of the few cars that offered dual airbags/ABS-EBD as standard across all variants including the bottom most Sigma variant.

But as of 2020, the Tiago has matured from a Beta product that it was at launch to a good offering in terms of safety but it still only offers a 3 cylinder engine which is big negative. At this price bracket it is a compromise in some aspect or the other irrespective of what you pick.

In fact, when I chose the Ignis over Tiago in 2017, the Tiago Automatic had got stuck in a specific gear during the test drive and we had to stop the test drive mid-way [URL (Tata Tiago AMT launched at Rs. 5.39 lakh)]

Wait, 4x4 on a small car? I mean, something the size of an Ecosport being called an SUV is understandable, but I fail to see the Ignis in the same light. It's a neat hatchback, and that is all.

[Talking about GC, Ecosport and the like have 200 mm+ and the closest thing to the Ignis (in size), the Freestyle had 190 mm. The S-Cross has 180mm though. But that's probably decent enough for a crossover. ]

Few Videos here that showcase some good off-road capabilities of the India Ignis itself - (tires are JK Tires as per the video comments and not All Terrain) but still decent show for a car of this size:

For an interesting video of 4 Wheel Drive International version of the Ignis - see here:

Re: Maruti Ignis : Official Review

Just completed 9000 kilometers in 6.5 months and the 3rd free service which includes Engine oil change. Till now the car just shines in city as well as highway.

Qouting a very old post of yours.

Did you upgrade to 195/60 or 195/65 tyres? 195/60 is like a perfect upgrade but I think 195/65 would touch wheel wells under full load?

Also, are you on stock rims or did you upgrade your alloys as well? Asking this to know if 195 section tyres are a good fit on stock alloys?

Its 195/60'yoko. 195/65 was a typo.I am using the stock alloys and didn't face any issues. Its a perfect fit.Though i wanted to change the alloys initially,i felt the cost involved isn't justified.

In addition, there’s now an improved mild hybrid system that uses a larger 10-Ah battery replacing the old 3-Ah pack

Now available as an added option, the CVT offers powerful acceleration performance at low speeds and outstanding fuel efficiency when cruising at high speeds.
