Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Looks like a 360 degree aftermarket camera mod is available for Harrier and Safari on the OEM infotainment.

This is a jugaad merging 4 inputs into one channel. The OE ICE screen at 8" is already tiny and trying to add 4 views into this makes it super tiny and not practically useful.

Hi Ram, I've been here long enough to see you grow from a newbie to being considered an encyclopedia of scoops.

However I cannot help but point out that your posts on Mahindra are always more positive and effusive in praise while those towards Tata are almost certain to include criticism. I have a personal stake in both so don't think I'm biased.

I am pointing this out because if you indeed have sources, be neutral and report your info and let the reader decide on them. Your posts should not influence their perceptions.

And lastly, as you're so sure of your sources at all levels - why not get it mod vetted? Just like the Harrier should be GNCAP rated? That'll increase your credibility.

Till then, I consider your posts as speculation / informed gossip. It's nice and entertaining but not gospel.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

^^^ @digitalnirvana

I agree that @ram87pune has not disclosed his sources, which may be hearsay or one sided stories as many feel. To be honest, Jeep Compass has scored 5-Star safety rating in ANCAP (please correct me if I'm wrong). So the point of certain part intrusion in passenger compartment needn't be true of as dreaded as being told.

However, this may impact safety rating by 1-2 stars based on structural rigidity of chassis. Moreover, going by physics & excess weights of Harriers/ Safaris, the force of impact may be higher on similar speeds for Tatas. But it also depends on the other vehicle/ object involved. In case of something as strong as Rock of Gibraltar the Tata would suffer more, but an Alto could be impacted like a striker hurting coins in game of carrom board.

Coming to argument that Tata hasn't conducted tests, have Toyota hasn't done for it's premium sellers & it too has DEF issues in BS6 era. Why only blame Tata for trying to save costs when the LR platform is too costly alongwith the premium price of Fiat Diesel engines?

In the end, if one believes in @ram87pune he/ she needn't buy Tata.

I got the V18 update today and the wireless android auto works well. Also noticed that there are minor tweaks to the fonts on the instrument cluster. The TPMS no longer shows the temperature. The symbol for the DEF level is changed.

As per the theories read in TBHP about this, they tested only petrol version of the same and 2.0L diesel version is not tested by any NCAP

Not sure about the Diesel in the ANCAP. For EuroNCAP, the Jeep Compass Diesel has been tested in it's LHD variant, however there are 5 variants to which this rating applies, including a RHD Diesel variant. It was awarded a full 5 stars.

Credit to get this to notice goes to @TorqueIndia

The 5 star validity for the RHD 2.0 Multijet Diesel models would not be baseless, I reasonably presume. It was a 4x4 model though. I have not gone into the fineprint, and am not aware of the details of protocols involved. @ron178 or @lordrayden might be in a good position to clear that up.

I think BHPian rpm, who has combed through the Curious Case of Stellantis' 2L MultiJet Engine in extraordinary detail, will be in a better position to answer your question.

I recently asked Mr Alejandro Furas of Global NCAP this question, in regard to the Honda Mobilio and Mahindra's new XUV700: what their policy for extension of ratings across variants with different ICE engines is. I asked him whether there could be differences in intrusion because of design issues and he was quite vague about it. He confirmed that if the kerb mass difference between the cars is within a specific Euro NCAP tolerance (in terms of percentage and mass), the rating is extended to the other ICE version. For hybrids and EVs, verification tests have to be performed. He said that if I couldn't find a Global NCAP protocol I could blindly follow an older Latin NCAP protocol; I couldn't find that either.

In any case no other NCAP rating would be valid for the Indian-market Jeep Compass but at least we'd have an idea regarding whether there is some truth to the rumours about this issue. Rumour has it that the MG Hector might be a part of the next round of Global NCAP results in late January so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them testing a 2L diesel car since the diesel-powered MG Hector uses the same engine.

Here's rpm's post which should help answer your query:

Saab 9-5 (single and twin turbo)

SAIC Motor

Suzuki
Suzuki SX4

Tata Motors
Tata Harrier
Tata Safari
For now I personally think it's best that this conversation about the Tata Harrier/Safari crash test results is paused until there are further discoveries, or better, if Global NCAP tests it.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Hi everyone!

Myself Gaurav, this is my first post on this forum which looks great and I found it while I was searching for info for the Tata Safari 2021 which I have already booked and will be receiving in the first week of the new year.

I have booked the new XZ plus model which includes wireless charger and android auto upgrades. I have opted for ceramic coating and a side step as addons. Extended warranty too. I want help with teambhp's PDI for this model. It will help a lot.

Thanks.

I don’t think I will. It’s pretty darn difficult to top the crash test expert of the forum.

The following is not an objective answer to a question that doesn’t have a definite answer yet; just my personal take on it.

Essentially, ram87pune’s post is a speculation, my post is a speculation, and the crash rating of the Indian variants is a speculation. Members are free to pick whichever one resonates with them the most; it is a gamble after all.

I personally think that ram87pune has built a credible reputation with his vastly (though not a perfect 100%) accurate scoops, so I will lean a bit more towards his speculation. It also probably helps that he saw it fit to disclose the source of his ‘Harrier 2-star rumour’ to me, though if he can’t disclose his source publicly, I’m sure neither can I. Besides, I think even if he were to publicly disclose the source, it wouldn’t unequivocally resolve the problem. You would still have to take his word for it in the absence of a GNCAP rating. So yeah folks; believe what makes sense to you. You are in charge of your own purchase decisions and recommendations.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Quick update- recently came back from a 2200 km trip of Delhi to Jaisalmer-longewala--Jaipur-Delhi and Safari performed really well. As per Mid, average that it gave me was 14.5 with 20% AC on. Jaisalmer to Jaipur does not have a national highway so had to take state highway and it was a joke. They had speed breakers almost every few Kms and since i was driving in night, not always i was able to locate them and have hit them hard but i think Safari has taken those hit well. Overall ,satisfied with the performance but few observations basis the long trip-
1. Wireless android is something that needs to be evolved. There is no issue in connection but it hanged a lot because of which nothing was functional and for a good period of time, even home screen of infotainment screen was not visible. i will officially complaint to tata motors.
2. Car is leaning on the left side and not sure if everyone has faced it.
3. Finally, steering feedback. on Average speeds, it works fine but on higher speeds, u need to keep both your hands on steering to make sure that you have control of the car.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Anyone suggest any option for a dash cam? Also for users with XZ and XZ plus models, any options for covering the all white seats with external seat covers? And how do you try and keep the all white interior clean?

Couple of weeks back the Safari saw its first major outing to Mashobra from Noida and felt the snow.

Overall a superb experience with a pinch of salt, will come to that later.

1. Drives well in all terrains. Straight line stability is amazing at unmentionable speeds, feels like Sachin could do Double Century. But we felt we could easily beat it in the ghats and curves with our old Innova. However, body roll seems pretty controlled. It did very well in those tricky ghat sections to Mashobra.

2. Held ground pretty well with HHC while driving on the ICE sleeted roads and starting and picking up the slopes.

3. The Panaromic Sunroof is something to hold breath. Feels blissful to watch the huge floating blue sky overhead.

4. Felt lack of Power even with Sport mode sometimes, unsure if due to the higher terrains or not. But otherwise a fantastic engine and driveability.

5. Infotainment UI is doable, very usable. The sounds are definitely great with JBLs and their placements.

6. 3rd Row is definitely usable unlike XUV500/700 but not upto the mark of Innova.

7. Boot ofcouse needs no mention. Need to scoop out boot by folding down 3rd Row seats on outstation drives.

So did we face any issues after the 16+11= 27 cumulative years of nigglefree peaceful blissful experience with the Innovas, not a single panel or anything rattling, falling off or failing even now ?

Well, it did rattle us to some extent and that's where the pinch of salt lies.

Issues we faced :

1. Consistent hanging of the Infotainment system. Got resolved by updating system, no issues further till now. System version is now 18.2.

It will be a good idea to include as a PDI Checklist item for Prospective Deliveries.

Name: Screenshot 21.png
Views: 1693
Size: 447.4 KB

2. Rattling it did and it turned out to be a loose wire in Right Front Top side as per SC. It was fixed in the First Free Service of 1000 kms.

Another point to include as a PDI Checklist item for Prospective Deliveries.

3. Major problem came out to be Gear Lever Console coming off, blimey with literally as good as new and not even done First Free 1000 kms service.

The dust started percolating inside cabin. Initially the SC had no clue what to do, also with non-availability of the part at SC. However, it was resolved with replacement of the console later on.

Yet another point to include as a PDI Checklist item for Prospective Deliveries.

Name: Screenshot 14.png
Views: 1714
Size: 337.9 KB

4. AQI keeps showing higher up of 300. No clue yet on the resolution of the same. However, the working understood thus from SC: To balance temperature difference sometimes, the system automatically mixes the external air with internal circulation and that probably causes the AQI behaving this way. However, this needs to be ratified and understood better.

2021 Tata Safari Review-safari-gold-air-purifier-issue-14.12.21.jpg

Other than that fundamentally and mechanically it has been sound so far.

However, we have to applaud the Tata Motors attention to customers now unlike experienced in the past.

While, issues were not resolved immediately and at the first go, due to various reasons, lacking idea on how to resolve at SC end on some and parts, once Tata Motors was tweeted, the whole gang sprang into action taking on board and into conference SC, GM Service and resolving issues near immediately.

Right now happily crusing on Noida-Lucknow ExpressWay and feeling like hitting Sachin's Double Century. Bravo Tata
