Right you are! I got that wrong, but the maintenance points remain though.. would be a nightmare IMO.

Mahindra did listen to you, wait for the new Scorpio. It'd be a proper ladder on frame with low ratio 4x4 so Safari's AWD (should they launch it) isn't going to be a match as such.

All black dash, along with everything else black makes it look claustrophobic IMHO. We are not going to a funeral, are we?
This is the older version of the Harrier Dark. New version is all black.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Looks slick - however not sure if it is practical in the hotter parts of India. While that all-black interior looks upscale, unless ventilated seats are standard, the AC will likely need to work hard to cool down those easily-heated interiors.

Good effort by Tata, though. This is a far cry from the Indica days.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Saw the dark edition in flesh and it looks drop dead gorgeous.
Too bad they pulled a sad face when i talked about my ready to be delivered Grey XZA being replaced by the Dark edition.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Edition/ Variants are like booster shot in the product life cycle, useful if on time but overall impact is limited. IMO the monocoque design has failed the so called Safari.

Once I tailed this car to closely observe the design contours (esp when on move), its bit too curvy for an SUV, at max it gives a cross over vibes. Do note that the review on drive quality and features have been good. But I haven't taken the car for TD or travelled, as the design is uninspiring and doesn't let me think on that lines.

Well the car IS a crossover, strictly speaking, not an SUV. Tata figures most people don't need or want SUVs, they want large, comfortable crossovers, which is what they are making.

Ladder on frame designs are overrated unless you are literally using the car for heavy commercial usage, jumping it off sand dunes or planning on keeping it for 150k+ kms. The full size Range Rover has used a Monocoque chassis since 2012 and so does the bmw X5 and the Mercedes GLE to name a few. Is it really worth sacrificing on the road handling, fuel efficiency, acceleration and safety of the modern monocoque chassis just for the added torsional rigidity and durability of the outdated ladder on frame design? Considering the safari is not a 4x4 or even an AWD vehicle, I think Tata has chosen their body shell well.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

I feel the Harrier looked much more menacing in the dark edition. The Safari looks good but not quite as macho in the dark edition as the Harrier. Been closely following this car for a few months now. The poor infotainment system is the only issue stopping me from pulling the trigger. Wish Tata would listen to my prayers and just update that awful screen sometime soon. Maybe a Safari 'tech' edition !

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Seems like the wireless charger is given a miss on the dark editions. Wonder if the part can be purchased separately and fitted.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Love that Dark edition inside out and it should look even better in person. That's how all black interiors roll!

Well said! And I would say, BOF is not really required for dune bashing too!

That said, AWD would have been a very nice addition to the Safari.

Yes it has been deleted from the dark edition.

Tata feature deletion begins.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Has anyone upsize the tyres (245 or 255)? If yes, any issues with sidewalls touching the wheel arch?

I was all set to book the dark edition and was sad to see this. However, on further examination of the new e-brochure from Tata website, I see that it mentions variants from XZA onwards feature wireless chargers from this year. (check top right corner, second last line in first paragraph). Perhaps the XZA+ dark edition also comes with the wireless charger?
