Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Today, marks a month for my ownership of Fortuner (Diesel, AT, 4x4).
~3000 kilometrs so far on the odo. Fuel has been a mix of XtraGreen and regular IOCL diesel.
Regen intervals vary based on fuel, driving style and terrain. Minimum I have seen is ~80 kms (regular diesel, rural roads)and the maximum is ~220 kms (XtraGreen on highways).
Fuel economy is hovering around 9 kmpl in rural roads and ~11 kmpl on highways.
Yet to see AdBlue refill warning.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Request for guidance on the tailgate of the '22 Fortuner.

At the security checks of malls/societies in Delhi NCR, the personnel on duty open up the boot and, at places, the hood too as part of the 'protocol'.

On one such occasion, a security guard had forcibly lifted the tailgate without waiting for the same to lift up automatically. Now, the tailgate has stopped working in the fashion as it was designed to do. It is required to manually lifted up and shut down.

Is there a method by which the same could be restored back to the original self of lifting and closing? Or would it be mandated to get it done through the workshop?

Have you checked the power door button on the dash? maybe that is turned off.

As I understand, this model is not equipped with the button that you mention.

I may be wrong in my observation about this particular switch, but if such a thing exist, then again I shall request for guidance including physical placement of the switch.

That button is used to operate the (power) back door and not to change the power on/off settings.

You would need to check the power back door settings under "Settings" on the MID. If it is OFF, please turn it on. If it is ON, you might have to get it checked at TASC.

This model, it seems gives the option of adjusting the extent of the rear lid opening up via the the switch in question. Hence, it too does not solve the issue.

Alas there is no such setting on the MID or elsewhere.

As I think of the issue, it seems that even if I get it sorted out from the TASC, it would recur if someone attempts to open it up due to impatience and ignorance.

The backordered parts have reached the workshop and the car's with the dealer for repairs.

Between this and my last post, I've had two more DPF choke issues. Same pattern as earlier. I tried driving the car in manual mode in 2nd/3rd gear in the city, rpm at 2K for long stretches and was able to trigger DPF auto regeneration once, but also experienced two DPF Full failures (pictures in my previous, linked, posts) for which I had to visit the workshop and get those reset manually using their OBD scanner.

The service advisor indicated it would take 2-3 days for the injector replacement process and while they're doing it, it's mandated by Toyota to also clean the catalytic converter and urea-related parts, and take pictures of before/after the cleaning process. They said only replacing the injectors without accompanying cleaning of the catalytic converter & related parts could cause repeat failure of the replaced injectors.

The service advisor also mentioned that the new injectors are 'modified' injectors, which should run better than the stock ones.

The following parts will be replaced:

- Injector Assembly (4 count)
- Gasket Nozzle Holder (4 count)
- Pipe Sub-Assembly Injection, No. 1 (2 count)
- Pipe Sub-Assembly Injection, No. 2 (2 count)
- Gasket (4 count)

Repair estimate, with labor, is INR 1,24,000 (one lac twenty four thousand) and will be honored under warranty. Phew.

Fingers crossed that the repair goes well and I can drive the car without any repeat issues after this. Praying.

Thanks for the update. I was surprised that TKM has not issued a mass recall/service action for this problem but one look at the cost involved and I got my answer

On a serious note, this could be an issue with only a particular batch of injectors and they have decided to adopt a policy of "fix it when it comes" rather than proactive recalls for that batch. If so, very disappointing indeed and least expected of TKM.

Please keep us posted on the outcome. Good luck

UPDATE

So even after fiddling with all the settings one couldn't get the automated function of the boot lid to move the intended way!

Consequently, I drove to the TASC at Okhla and presented the staff with the problem. Below is the brief of the conversation which took place:-

Me:The boot lid ka automatic function kaam nahi kar raha hai.
Tech 1:Sir, switch off ho gaya hoga....
Tech 2: Ho jaata hai kai baar...

Me: Ho jaata hai? Matlab...?
Tech 2: Sir, customer ko samajh nahi aata...
Me:

Tech 1: Hum check karte hain...

The two of them got into the front seats of the car and started the procedures to activate the automated function, however, without success.
After about twenty minutes of my impatience, they called their 'Ustaad' who emerged out from the work floor after a minute.

He didn't waste any time to lift the hood and disconnect the battery. Connected it back immediately and instructed Tech 1&2 to go over the procedure.
The settings responded and the boot lid was functional again.

Tech 1&2 salvaged the situation by telling me that,"Sir, aise case pehle bhi dekha tha."
I didn't have much to say. I was not charged anything for the exercise.

Good news for your beast.

Am still waiting to get it changed. Mine also is August 2021 manufacture. Seems like cars of that month had this issue.

3 DPF errors have already been reported. i understand they are waiting for one code to come...likely expected in the next DPF failure.

but seriously, Toyota should be more prompt in this. We can't take the beast for a long trip till this is fixed.

Thankfully Fortune Toyota's GM sir has been very supportive.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender & Facelift Review

Brought home Furteela Ghonga 2.0 on 9/11 this year. It will complete two months soon and has been driven about 10,000 kms so far. Coming from 2016 4x4 AT, here are my initial impressions:

Likes:
  • Engine - Feels like a huge upgrade both in terms of power and NVH levels. Also, FE is better with more power
  • Ride quality is significantly better than previous gen stock suspension. I had upgraded to OME suspension in my previous Fortuner which I am going to do on this as well.
  • Brakes! They are massive upgrades and super adequate for this truck
  • Rear diff lock and easy engagement of low ratio
  • Love the design
  • Cabin feels "more" premium
  • Middle row AC controls are better
  • Front Passenger power adjustable seats and thigh adjustment
  • Powered boot
  • LED lights (Like all except fog lamps which are useless)
  • Apple Carplay and Android Auto
  • Seat folding mechanism is better
  • More storage space for knick knacks
  • Power outlet for all rows
  • Smart entry and go
  • Wipers are pretty good even in super windy and high speed driving
  • Ventilated seats
Dislikes:
  • Rear speakers are pathetic
  • Fog lamps are purely for aesthetics and serve no other purpose
  • Steel spare
  • Front side indicator is placed very low
  • Paint quality is poor
  • No LED in the boot area
  • Cup holders in the center seems useless. It would have been better as regular storage space
  • Storage area behind that also seems useless
  • Power boot opening is too slow
Other Observations:
  • DPF regeneration have been happening regularly and haven't faced any issue so far (~150-200 km interval)
  • Adblue consumption is about ~4000 / 8L so far. I have filled up twice when the DTE was ~1000 kms
  • 10,000 km first oil change service costed Rs. 8029 including wheel alignment and balancing
  • I am curious to see the performance of BS6 in high altitude areas like Umling La etc
Hoping to start another ownership thread with more detailed review. Dropping some pics here for now.

Cheers!

Hearty congratulations on Furteela Ghonga 2.0. This is just testimony to a great product that Toyota has built, leaving aside the stiff ride quality. For sure it has massive shoes to fill of the OG Furteela Ghonga. Wish you lakhs of happy kilometres!

10,000 kms in 2 months is really impressive, but then I remembered your 2016 Fortuner had done 1,00,000 kms if not more, in 2 years

Will wait for the ownership review

In the first picture, if I’m not mistaken, that is Lakozy Toyota Andheri, did you exchange the 2016 one for the latest one with them or did you sell it privately? And if I may ask what price did you get for it?

Will Toyota Legender come in Black colour?

Hello! Since the launch of the facelifted Fortuner & Legender, India has only got the Legender in one spec of dual tone White & Black color. Currently, an all-Black version is only limited to the Fortuner GR-S model that sits above the Legender. Will India ever get other color options for Legender like the ones offered in Thailand & Pakistan?

I'm planning to buy a Toyota Legender in January 23 but I wanted it in Black. I can't decide if I should wait a little more & see if they launch this spec in India or if the waiting will just be a waste of time.
