Better safety score, better road presence, better fuel economy and engine refinement, better boot space, and perhaps more mature ride too. MS have basically added above 3.75L for the boosterjet, TC and styling. I feel that's a lot. Heck, I have seen the German SUVs at 16L in second hand market with barely 10k on ODO. I will buy them if I'm spending 15.5L anyway.

At times I feel that all cars are getting beyond reach. The top end at around 13L translates to about 14.5-15.5L across different states. Let's see how it performs.

The ex-showroom price of my Brezza ZDi+ Dual Tone was 991000/- in 2016 (my point of reference).

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

Quite overpriced IMHO , BALENO 1.2NA PETROL starts at 6.61 and tops at 9.88L ex showroom for ALPHA AMT.
NA variants are somewhat digestible with 70K- 130K premium over BALENO.
But what's it with Turbo MT & AT variants? about 2L premium over BALENO NA variants.

Need to list out the pricing of all the Maruti cars in 8-15L, let's see if there is enough space for Jimny.

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

Surprised at the pricing. The NA variants, atleast the lower variants seem to have the premium one would expect for the 'cross' treatment. But the turbo variants, especially the turbo automatic is surely priced at a premium. They managed to make the Brezza look VFM now.

And to think how this would be affecting the Jimny pricing (even if the cheaper engine/transmission is taken into account)

Bookings numbers stand at 39,000+
Now that prices have been announced, booking numbers should be interesting

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

I booked this car for my mom back in January, expecting great pricing because of it being so similar to the Baleno. Waited too long without any info on the price reveal, ultimately leading to disappointment.

There is no reason for that turbo petrol to be priced at such a premium, even for the MT. I understand that MSIL's 6 speed TC units command a premium of 1.5 L in all their cars, so that was expected. But I expected the top-end manual to be 11 L (ex sh) at max.

Even the price leap from Zeta to Alpha at 93k (for 2-3 niceties) does not make sense.

We will probably cancel this booking and go with a cheaper, more VFM option. It's a shame that Nissan closed their dealership in my city, and Renault is barely hanging on. My mom's blind faith on Marutis doesn't make things easier either. So might just end up with a Baleno. Thanks for delaying our purchase by 4 months, Maruti.

Honestly a let down with the pricing of turbo variants.
I am guessing the 1.2l NA variants will run good. I expect quite a bit of turbo booking cancellations or changes to a lower variant.

The Kiger Magnite twins with a facelift can gain a bit of marketshare here if they act swiftly.

The Citroen C3 could have benefited but they keep dropping the ball with their automatic.

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

So much for those 39000 bookings. Maruti dealers should expect a flurry of cancellations post the price reveal. Is it just me or are cars in India are just atrociously overpriced? There seems to be no end to the greed. The way things are moving, in a few years there might not be any model available for less than a million Indian Rupees in India!

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

Interestingly, Fronx Alpha 1.0 turbo AT in fact would be pricier than Brezza ZXI+ 1.5 AT in invoice if you exclude the GST part. Brezza has extra GST as we all know. This amount might be approx 30-40K INR.

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

With petrol retailing at ₹100+ per liter, new turbo petrols are sold in Indian market! I don't understand the choices of people. These turbo petrols seldom give good mileage. OTOH Turbo diesels gave stupendous mileage with great fun. Gone are the days. Next what? Electric cars at 20L starting price and half of it for subsequent battery replacement? No thanks.

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

So the 6 speed TC commands a premium of INR 1.5L when compared to 0.55L of AGS. The booster jet another 1L over the NA engine.

Had there been a 1.2 NA with AGS option in Alpha variant, it would have been cheaper by ~2L bringing down the ex-showroom price to around 11L. I think this would have been a very reasonable price for the package offered.

I mentioned this in an earlier post of mine, and now we have the numbers to support it. MSIL should have offered 1.2 NA and AGS beyond Delta variants.

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

I had booked 1.0 turbo AT top variant. It would be around 15 lakhs on road. Kiger turbo CVT is 2 lakhs cheaper and looks VFM. Need to decide now .

True. Here are the Ex. factory prices vs Brezza

Ex factory price of Fronx Alpha AT - 10.14 L * 1.28 = 12.98 L ex. sh
Ex factory price of Brezza ZXI+ AT - 9.64 L * 1.45 = 13.98 L ex. sh

So Fronx AT ex. factory price is costlier by 50K than Brezza. Probably means the 1.0T is adding to the cost rather than K15C's cost over the K12C. Keeping in mind that Brezza is on the stronger Global C platform and also gets a sunroof, Maruti wants to milk the most.

TC Automatic cost:
Maruti is greedy here again:
If cost of AT is 1.03 L * 45% GST = 1.5 L is premium in Brezza.
1.03 L * 1.28 GST = 1.32L should have been the premium in Fronx instead of a flat 1.5 L.

Premium for Turbo: 1 Lakh for 1.0 boosterjet vs 80-85K by Venue/Sonet

Spot on, but that is what Maruti wanted to do to keep profit margins high. Else, the numbers for turbo engine would be miniscule.

Would it not be 16.3+ on the road in Bangalore? Here in Chennai, the OTR price for the single tone Alpha AT is almost 16L.

Did you consider the Venue N Line? What is your opinion of this as the alternative

Re: Maruti Fronx Review

If they wanted to price the turbo AT so ridiculously, they should had offered it in Brezza instead. Now like the S-Cross 1.6, they will stop the turbo variants after a couple of years citing poor demand for it.
