Oh ok, if that is the case they're being really flexible you bet! I have no real experience in dealing with these exchange bonus schemes, but the general mentality of most dealers is to undervalue the old car being exchanged. Works by psychology - most buyers are in a hurry to get rid of the vehicle and bring home the new one, and don't really bother about the 20-30k that they lose out on. Good to see that the trends are changing for the better.

The quality and the levels of service at the Tata franchise of Shree Bharat motors was pathetic and in some cases nightmarish.
I hope FIAT India keeps an eye on this guy, in case it is the same Bharat, otherwise it will be a case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Any idea what happened to the FIAT only dealer of Bhubaneswar - I think it was called SWAPNA Motors - located in Mancheswar Indl Est. It was run by a very nice gent, who I felt (in a short interaction), to be a true FIAT aficionado.

Yup, its the same Shree Bharat Motors. They do handle quite a few auto dealerships in Bhubaneswar. Hero Motors, VW, Chevy, Bajaj commercial vehicles, Tata passenger cars and Bharat Benz dealerships are handled by Bharat's, apart from being a major car transporter into Odisha.

Dont know about the Tata dealership, but their VW dealership is pretty good from what I have heard.

About Swapna Motors, they have made the transition from long time FIAT dealers, to Tata-FIAT dealers and now finally to exclusive Tata dealers. They were one of the few FIAT dealers who had stuck with them right through the worse times. I guess they had to take the higher revenues of a Tata dealership. I have been extremely happy with my experience with Swapna Motors till now. Let's see how it goes with Bharat's.

The petrols especially FIAT's are grossly under valued. Hence, I've not sold it till date and using as a weekend drive.

Swapna motors was very good. In fact they have been awarded best dealer of east India a couple of times.
Its the same Bharat motors I am talking about. I know people were very dissatisfied with its service. But I am just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for best as we have no other option back here.

If you aren't going to cross the 2000 rpm mark, you aren't going to benefit from the T-Jet's engine pulling range. In fact, I'd have said you'd be better off with a diesel for the lugging ability at lower rpms, but remembered that you do prefer a silent cabin (something which a diesel cannot provide ). Compared to the 1.4 NA version, the T-Jet will still be much better in driveability due to the low end torque readily available at 1500 rpm and above. I suggest you test drive both the cars back to back.

If you're not going to use that insane mid-range and just prefer a silent cabin with a sedate drive, the NA version might work well too. J.Ravi sir should be able to help you with feedback on the 1.4 NA version, he has used it extensively in every possible terrain and condition. You could even pull off some amazing discounts on the 1.4 NA Linea now, considering it isn't a quick mover off the shelves. Good luck with the decision

Yes boss, true, but if one plans to use the car extensively (not just once a week), then one has to think of the impact on the wallet. My rough estimate is that I'll spend ~ Rs. 40k more per year with the T-Jet on fuel. I have to question myself hard - is this price worth the joy I'd get from the T-Jet, or would it be better to save that money so I can go more places in a diesel? This will be my only car. I had originally though of buying a small car (Alto or A-Star automatic) for city/daily use and another vehicle for touring, but overall costs and the fact that I'd have the pain of having to park and maintain two vehicles rule that out.

So back to the dilemma - T-Jet or not.

Good heavens! I had written to them maybe a couple of months ago and they called back saying they had nothing. Now this is news.

When I bought my 1.4 FIRE petrol Linea in October 2009, there was no T-Jet variant available. If it were available, I would have definitely chosen T-Jet over NA.

My workings are below. I have calculated the FE figures by taking the numbers reported in the "What is your actual fuel efficiency" thread and averaging the numbers reported for each type of use - city and hwy. I don't know the actual petrol / diesel prices in Bangalore and have estimated the same. I will be glad if someone can pick holes in my analysis (other than FE numbers and fuel prices).
