Here is the last set, this car is a gem, with lots and lots of original stuff. I could have clicked many more pictures, but believe me after seeing the car, I was kind of lost.

Unfortunately I am missing the pictire and have asked for new ones

Looks quite complete. But I see that many older cars from Meghalaya, where this car appears to be, have later date regns. Have they all been re-registered by some rule there as in MP/Chattisgarh?

I will try and get more information about Meghalaya car registrations soon.
Meanwhile here is an old Fiat 1100 D that I clicked in Kolkata just a few days ago. The front grille is of the black plastic kind. An elderly gentleman was at the wheel and the registration number was WBG ---. The lengthened rear bumper and the original aluminum wheel caps also show the car's pedigree.

Continuing on the discussion of the 1958/59 (?) Fiat Millecento from here

After the Elegant in 1957 the Fiat 1100 sported a facelift which included a new grille, larger lights, tail fins etc. We've commonly been referring to this model as 'Select'

Ajay and a couple of old timers have been telling me that in 58 and 59 there was the precursor to the Select, called again the Millecento, with a couple of marginal differences. I have a proposed list of differences listed here

• Millecento badge (front and rear)
• Boot lid handle 'L' shaped (from Elegant)
• Fiat badge around ignition switch
• Large 'drum' air cleaner
• Cable operated starter
• Maybe the Delloroto/Weber carb

The premises are simple - it is assumed that the initial cars were closer in specification to the early home market cars. Going through various pictures uploaded in the past, we can see the following.

BRP car - shows the Millecento badge at the rear, boot lid lock and dash badge



Black junk car - shows the rear badge, dash badge, studs on tappet cover to take the large air cleaner, plus Delloroto carb (remains!) (Note cool accessory cast tappet cover!)




DLE car - shows the boot lid handle, dash badge



MDY car - shows the dash badge and studs on tappet cover for the air cleaner




WBE car - shows the rear badge and studs for air cleaner, plus Weber (?) carb



What say guys? The case is quite compelling. Do ask around old timers at your end.

I can confirm this one as I have seen the same in a Select which we earlier had later modified to a Premier padmani starter. Sadly no pictures.

I'm inclined to agree with Karl.

My father's '59 Select had a drum type air cleaner.

Besides, I remember my mom saying once too often, that our car was a 'Millecento'. She Never used the name 'Select'. I'm sure the car must've had a Millecento badge on the boot, which made her say it..

Thanks very much Karl. It is now about 5 years I have been trying to establish the existence of the 58/59 Millecento.Being a novice on fiats till now I could not substantiate much on it

Karl, thanks for the lovely information with pictures of the Millecento. Our family friend (uncle) had a black coloured, 1959, Millecento with the registration number BYJ 3758, that he owned till 1967, when he bought a new Fiat 1100D. As a child, I could remember that the Millecento engine was more noisy that the of the new 1100D. This maybe also due to maintenance issues.
The Millecento rear boot lock was also different, as compared to the Select and SS.The lever was small and vertical. The car featured by you Karl, BRP 3973 has the original boot lock. As far as I can remember BYJ 3758, had cream wheel discs.The wheel disc colour was somewhat like this car below (Fiat 1100 Select though). BYJ 3758 was black in colour.

Also to add, I have seen a Select (may be Millicento as study by Karlos, ajay and Dr. Anjan say so) with a Dellerto carburetor. As per the old mechanic the carb was original to the car.
