Sometimes they are arrested or taken away to prevent being persecuted by the bystanders on the road.

An example: A couple of years back my wife's car (Ford Figo 1st Gen) got rear ended by a Tata Ace and landed up brushing an Innova loaded with 8-9 people from nearby town on Mysore Road. She was immediately blamed for the accident as the Tata Ace driver disappeared into the crowd. The traffic constable got into her car and asked her to drive to the nearest police station where he stayed with her till I arrived.

A dash cam helps, but not when a mob is attacking you.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

A Fortuner had done this. Traffic was held up on the Medipally-Pocharam stretch for quite some time as the Dzire was bang in the middle of the road.
The Fortuner was parked slightly further up the road on the side. The right fender was badly damaged and the right front tyre was in the verge of coming off.

Of course the driver's of these heavy vehicles need to go to the police station for giving a statement, filing the FIR etc. However, they are hardly ever 'arrested'. They will need to go to the court subsequently. Unless they are obviously at fault eg. wrong side driving, drunk driving etc. they are let off. That's what would happen to the mentioned MTC driver as well.

An one month old XUV 300 returning from a wedding, carrying nine 15-26 year olds, toppled near Karaikudi, TN killing 3 occupants and injuring the rest 6.

https://m.dinamalar.com/detail.php?id=2258082

RIP.
9 people in a 5 seater car. So no chance of them wearing seatbelts. The sheer injury of hitting one another at the moment of impact and then getting thrown off the car would be sufficient to be fatal in an over-packed vehicle.
Excitement of a new car with 20 year young bloods.
The deceased 3 were 15, 20 and 22 year olds.

The alloys and side panels suggest it was a TUV 3OO.

Firstly the guy on the moped has no business entering the road and immediately attempting to cross it. Thing is, this is India and I am shocked at how fast people travel on narrow Kerala roads with blind bends. I mean sure, they say Kerala has the highest literacy rate, but all it takes is one fellow to turn into a careless zombie in the heat, and make a mistake

Incredible to see the biker get up though.

Isnt that the TUV 300?

Could be the Plus too - which still means 9 people in a 7 seater.

There lies the biggest clue in the pic which is a ‘powered by mhawk’ badge near the side indicator.

Is the standard TUV 300 sold as a 5 seater? It has two jump seats at the rear, so isn't it sold as a 7 seater? Although a journey on those seats is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!

Thank you for your sharp eyes! As that happens right at the start of the video, I had missed it.

Fine margins for the speeding biker. First, he only clipped the moped chap (who's crossing the road like he's strolling in a park), then he didn't crash head-on into whatever it was he crashed into (the bike's probably a write-off though), and narrowly missed the oncoming biker on the way.

Could've easily been multiple fatalities, ended up with only a totaled bike and bruised limbs & egos. Fortunate to walk away from that.

It's hard to blame him for clipping the idiot who pulled out in front of him, straight to the middle of the road (I tried!) but he is going too fast. I think the British crime would be driving without due care and attention

In some sick way we might be able to hope that the rider learns a lesson not just about speeding on narrow public roads, but also about using his mirrors because it can be argued that karma placed a moped guy who was never able to see the road behind him as he had no mirrors itself. The KTMs indicators reside on the mirror stalks so people generally dont take them off, but I seriously judge the riders who keep their mirrors folded in and ride

One more accident at the end of the same bridge. A Vitara Brezza sandwiched between an Innova and Bus.
