Re: Hyderabad - Goa : Route Queries

Jay,

I assume you will be alert throughout the drive and would have glanced at the route map before you start and will be tracking yourself on GPS continuously.

1) Left Turn at Manneguda (straight goes to Vikarabad). I think it is marked.

2) Right Turn 1 km after Ravulpally (14 km after Kodangal) [straight goes to Yadgir]. It is in middle of no where and no signboards were there when I last did it. Count down 14 km at Kodangal and you will not miss the right turn. Most tricky turn.

3) Sedam has a byepass and you need to turn left for it and again left at end of the byepass. Not tricky at all.

4) Gulbarga byepass. No rocket science.

5) Right Turn at Jevargi. Well marked.

6) Bijapur. Better chalk out your route for crossing the city. Byepass is fairly simple but don't miss the sequence of left-right-left turns.

7) Bagalkot, turn right towards Belgaum. I am assuming you are headed to North Goa. For South Goa, better go straight at Bagalkot via Hubli and Karwar.

8) Turn left at Lokapur. It is marked but I missed it due to day time peak traffic jam in sugarcane season. Realised a couple of km ahead and lost 15 minutes there. Have never heard of anyone else till date of missing this turn.

9) For Belgaum, better mark out your route within that city as it requires a lot of turns. Sankam Residency (on your right just after you leave the service road parallel to Bangalore-Mumbai Highway has an excellent 3 star buffet breakfast. Don't miss the right fork after Belgaum for Chorla.

10) Cheers!

Whoa, it cannot get more comprehensive than this Bajaj sir. Thanks a ton. I'll try to stick to this plan to the T with the help of mobile GPS/Sygic, and yes, I'm staying at North. I'll be starting tonight.

Cheers!!

Hey .. if you miss the right fork after Belgaum, you have a good option through SH30 after Khanapur connecting to Anmod-Mollem-Ponda (check this for map.

Successfully completed the Hyd-Goa-Hyd round trip. Stuck to the route Bajaj sir and Deepankar had suggested and it was wonderful. Didn't make any mistakes this time except one time while returning. Took a right turn to Sedam ahead of Gulbarga and hit a rough patch of around 20Kms. That route went through an Alstom factory and other industrial areas. Pretty deserted and kind of scary at night.

Otherwise the roads and in good condition and after Belgaum, the ghat roads were flawless most of the way. Took 14 hours to Goa including a 45 mins power nap, couple of 10 min breaks and 1 hour breakfast break at Sangam Residency, Belgaum. Special thanks to Bajaj sir for suggesting this place. It's a must-stop place if you are traveling with family/ladies. Very neat place and decent fare for breakfast which is absolutely value for money at 150/- per person. Loved it. Started onward journey from Hyd at 10PM from Lingampally and reached Candolim by 12:00 noon.

Retraced the same route backwards while returning. Started the trip around 4 PM and I was back home sleeping at 5am. Didnt take any long break except couple of 5 mins bio breaks and one tea break for 20 mins at Sangam again.

If my memory is right, there is only one toll you take for 70 bucks after Sedam till Gulbarga. 250 for entry to Goa.

Re: Hyderabad - Goa : Route Queries

Can any of you fine souls map out in Google or Bing the current best route between HYDERABAD and GOA (Panaji)? For a dimwit like me the myriad of options are overwhelming. Thanks.

Hey,

I did a Hyd-Goa (north, Candolim) 10 days back and have mentioned the route i took.

https://www.google.co.in/maps/dir/Ga...15.4909301!5i1

This link should give you an idea of the route i've taken, though the exact turning/route is mentioned by hyd_traveller on the this page. The road conditions are pretty good overall with no real bad stretches anywhere. Just keep an eye out for those speed breakers which will pop up out of nowhere

I suppose the following two should serve as perfect guide for Hyd-Goa travel for this holiday season:

One of these routes is via Gulbarga the other via Raichur. Which is better for a south Goa destination?

Thanks

The route url is incorrect because it shows that you went via Raichur, though you did not. Can you please correct it?

Hmmm, for some reason, the link opens up to show the right route for me and not via Raichur. Attaching a screenshot to be more clear about the route

Hyderabad - Goa : Route Queries-screen-shot-20151119-7.08.02-am.png

This is the route I've taken, just that the last leg was different since I had to reach Candolim and not Panaji. I took the Mapusa route to enter Candolim.

Splendid. Just what was needed.

- Are these 4 lane roads?
- What is the usual run time for this sector? It seems the critical ghat section will present itself after sunset.

Thanks

2 lane undivided carriageway for nearly 99% of the trip.
12 to 15 hours.
Chorla Ghat or for that matter, any of the ghats into or out of Goa are not recommended in the night time by a newbie.

Like Bajaj sir answered above, most of the roads are undivided carriageways. The roads are in good shape for almost all the way and wide enough. I took 14 hours (45 mins power nap and 1 hour breakfast break included) towards Goa and 13 hours back to Hyderabad (30mins coffee break + couple of 10 mins break).

I've done the ghats during night before but not this time. I would strongly recommend hitting the ghats when there is proper daylight. Night is pretty stressful in this section compared to the immensely pleasurable drive you'll have in the day time. I would suggest starting from Hyd around 3am. I did an entire night drive starting at 10PM and reached Candolim by 12PM

Re: Hyderabad - Goa : Route Queries

^^ Thank you gentlemen.

The earliest I can depart from HYD would be 6am.

Nowadays I have problem driving after sunset. How about taking a detour via Dharwad? I have relatives there.

Would this route be ok?
