🙂, this is a weekly activity now. We are coming across many places for Sunday mornings, as we roam around and explore. Last Sunday found acres of wonderful flat green patch.

These are from our earlier trips to Uttaranchal, when our extended canine family accompanied us regularly. Now we are all getting on in years (I'm running 67) so our car trips too have reduced in number!

Mods, if the photos have appeared earlier in the forum (my thread "Naukuchiatal - Far from the madding crowd"), I hope I'll be excused!

For those ...........I personally do not like to take the train as it is time consuming and first AC fares are much higher than flight tickets. But there is no better way to travel with your pet along with you so we had no other choice.
Below is Bailey enjoying her train ride.

Hello Aditya,
Yes, Bailey certainly seems to be enjoying her ride!

We have had similar experiences (thrice, Mumbai>Lucknow twice and back again to Mumbai once) quite a few years back. The last was in 2008 when we brought 2 month old Kluso from Mumbai to Lucknow. This one was undertaken solo by my wife (I was sailing at the time). By then we had had some experience of train travel with pets.
We too have tried to book a coupe in advance but the allotments take place only after the charts are prepared. And we never did get a coupe, ever!
In the Pushpak SF Express (Lucknow ><Mumbai), the one decent train on the route, there is only one Ist AC coach (HA1 )& that too is half 2nd AC & half 1st – with one coupe cabin only!

I shall differ with you on one point tho’ – we have found that travelling with one’s pets is a good deal more enjoyable when travelling by road. No doubt it is more time consuming - we would take 2 night halts en-route & the 3rd afternoon we would hit Lucknow, when we used to do the Mumbai > Lucknow>Mumbai runs.

We only drive from sunrise to sunset and usually stick to our self-regulated speed limit of 80 km/hr. And this, only after our major shunt last year (mentioned elsewhere in the forum) on the toll road on the outskirts of Bareilly while returning from Naukuchiatal.

Shashanka,

Completely agree with you. I personally love to drive and travel by road whenever possible. We keep doing Ahmedabad/Rajkot from Porbandar very often.

But offlate Bailey has become very car sick. When she was a puppy there was no problem at all. She refuses to get into the car, starts drooling badly and most of the times throws up. Thats why we never consider taking her on a drive more than 4-5 hrs. By the time she reaches the destination she is tired and drained out.

Hopefully more short drives and she might get used to it.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

My mom rescued this dog that was abandoned on the Eastern Freeway!!!! She had her checked by a vet who says she is about 5 years old and may have been used by a puppy mill breeder. Currently in foster care but we would love to find her a forever home. Please let me know if anyone thinks they can help her find a forever home. PM me for more.

Candy. A mix of poodle and cocker spaniel. Adopted her by paying some negotiable amount to a Bollywood aspirants who couldn't care for her.

She is 2.3 years old now and just loves to be driven in the car. Knows the unlock and horn of my car from a distance. Animals too should be made part of this forum and now they are. Thanks to this thread.

Hi Shashanka, The pup found a good home and is doing well. Now onwards to the next pup that is running in the middle of the road, oblivious to traffic.

And sadly, my pet Caesar, 7 Year old Golden Retriever, has Arthiritis. :( Any advice for that? I'm following medications and he seems better, but arthritis at 7?

Hi Srivatsa, This pup found a good home, but for any future cases, does this group Bombat Dawgz have members from Chennai? I am already part of the Pet Parents India group and The Pound group.

We were very glad to know that the pup has found a good home - a little less misery in this god-forsaken world!
And esoticore, don't worry about the Arthritis. Our Kluso - that mad-hatter of a boxer - has it since he was 9. He is touching 11 today and is doing fine on glucose-amine supplements. This was recommended by our own vet & so far we have no complains. There is a fair amount of literature on the net about canine arthritis & I found this one to be clear and concise (https://pettao.com/pet-owners-guide-dog-arthritis/).

The treatment we use is Paws-Up or Pet Joint or Flexi, which have glucose-amine together with additional supplements. All are in tablet form and for Kluso (who as mentioned is a stubborn & contrary creature) we find it convenient to crush the tablet to powder form & mix it in the food bowl. It is very effective we found & the literature does not mention side-effects.

Regards,
Shashanka

We've have a very nervous 5 month old Indie pup who is not yet socialised. He gets scared when he sees people. We took him in when he was found abandoned (he was about 45days old then).

Can anybody recommend places/parks in Bangalore where we could take him, so we could just sit and people-watch or stroll about? TIA.

I don't live in Bangalore but just came here to say that it is not too late to start socializing him in a controlled environment. Do it now to avoid this becoming a much bigger problem later. A lot of trainers and NGOs will help in case of indie pets. Call CUPA and see if they can recommend someone. If he was picked from the streets then his behaviour is probably due to some ill treatment by humans which has instilled fear in his mind. One way to start is to ask your friends to come over to you when you are outdoor with the pup on a leash and just stand next to you. Let the dog sniff around your friend's body and essentially be reassured that he/she is not a danger. Tell him to basically ignore the pup until the pup is comfortable with the new person. Then ask the friend to give him a treat. Try this for a few days with different folks until the pup realizes that strangers aren't going to harm him. The process may take time but the behaviour can definitely be changed. The sooner you start the better. Good luck!
