Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Watched 'Luther' on Amazon Prime. Its a British Detective Series. Overall its a good classy show with some interesting characters. Among all the 5 seasons, last season is above average but rest of the seasons are pretty good.

Also saw 'Upload' on Prime. A fun light hearted show on the afterlife set in the future. An average watch at best.

The Queen's Gambit : 4 / 5

Movies on chess have always been a hit or a miss (e.g. Life of a King, Queen of Katwe) - depending on the larger message being passed in the movie. But to have a mini-series focusing more on the protagonist and her fights with the world while still keeping a focus on her progression in the chess world is an interesting route for a mini-series to take.

Not surprisingly, the initial and last episodes are the best of the lot; the series drags for a while in the middle episodes. But this is a series well done, like a 90s movie with a happy feel-good ending in the last episode. My only grouse? Could have cut the drama-giri and fit it in 4 or 5 episodes.

P.s My best "chess movie" has to be this short Pixar animation made back in 1997

Watched "ZeroZeroZero" an amazon original based on a novel by the same name. Gave a lot of hitherto unknown information on the cocaine route, Italian mafia family. Delves into the corruptness of so called developed nations and honesty of underdeveloped nations as well.

The story starts in US takes you around the world to Italy, Mexico, Senegal and many other countries.

A gripping story, fantastic cinematography and natural scenery makes it a must watch. I recommend this to any one who is interested in crime/suspense genre.

Just started watching Oktoberfest on Netflix. It is a German show and let's just say, I loved it just by virtue of the fact that it is about beer and struggle for power at this beer festival. 🤪Completed only one episode as weeknights are spent watching Away with my better half.

This documentary about the great Diego Maradona by Asif Capadia is now available on YouTube. The documentary shows the various aspects of the life of the legend and his frailties and his humane side. Recommended watch, although it’s heavy on football.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Finished watching Harshad Mehta-1992 Scam on SonyLIV. What a show. Excellent acting by everyone and a lot of nostalgia seeing those padminis and landline phones. Entire 80s/90s setup was done nicely. Would rate it 5/5

But SonyLIV has an absolutely buggy interface. It was a pain casting it on TV from mobile. Had subscribed to watch this show and Australia series. Not renewing it after the month ends

Watched UPLOAD on Amazon prime. Nice concept and a light watch. 3/5

You bet. The cast of this series have a solid theatre background and it is visible when you watch the series. Pratik Gandhi has really given lovely performances in Gujarati Cinema that this series ended up being his best by far.

I binged watched this a week before the diwali weekend and loved every bit of it. None of the episodes looked stretched and each one had its ingredients right too.

Agree. The recreation of the Bombay from the 80s/90s, the traffic, buildings, restaurant and tapri culture etc. was extremely precise, almost comparable to the level of Special 26.

Fun fact. This is the guy who fixed and cleaned Woody in Toy Story.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Watched JL50 on SonyLiv last week.

The series, originally intended to be a film, has an interesting plot of time travel through aviation. But that's where it stops being good. While this could have been pretty interesting, the storyline is very, very mediocre. Despite a good cast (Piyush Mishra, Pankaj Kapur, Abhay Deol), this series ended up being quite a disappointment.

2/5

Finished watching till episode 3 of Fargo Season 4. And I've lost interest! Season 1 & 2 were the best.

Hotstar is now available here in Singapore.

Started off with Special Ops. Three episodes in. Looks promising!

Yep...3 & 4 are definitely downers when compared with 1 & 2. And between 1 & 2, 1 is better.
