Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

Naive question but I am really confused so please help me guys.

My father is a govt officer and I am an adult and happily single so am I supposed to mention it in the passport form?

It is written as: is either of your parent(in case of minor)/spouse, a govt servant?

Mods please delete the post I got the answer for my question

Thanks.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

Experts with passport procedures, need some help here.

My passport is expiring in Feb 2021, Wife and son's passport expiry is Dec 2020. We are in Bangalore presently and the issuing place for all our passports is Thane.

1. Can I renew all our passports in Bangalore? or do I have to still visit Thane office for the same?
2. Can the permanent address still be the same as existing? In case of renew of passport in Bangalore will the rental address be sufficient. I will be changing residences by end of this month.
3. How can my passport renewal process be smoothened?

1. Yes, no need to visit Thane
2. Rental address with rental agreement is sufficient. Just reside in that rental property for 6 months so that police verification goes on smoothly.
3. Don't change houses and if older passport says you are single or married, then remain single or married!
A single Aadhaar doc photocopy along with old passport is sufficient while renewing if there are no changes in above details.

This is only applicable if you are minor, otherwise you don't need to mention that.

If you were single on your previous passport and now married, it's better to mention married. You have to submit only the marriage certificate along with other documents. If you don't then it becomes an issue for child's passport, especially first passport as both parent's consent is required.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

Hi. I have two questions:

1. I am looking at re-issue of my passport. Is there a difference in the documents required for Normal vs Tatkal process? The official passport website does not indicate any difference - it says passport copy and proof for ECNR in both cases (Normal and Tatkal). But I am looking for real-life examples, preferably from Delhi region.

2. What is the situation at the passport offices during Covid times? Do they continue to be as crowded as during pre-Covid times?

No, Except that the confirmation of appointment letter needs to be taken in print for some reasons as it's required to be signed by some official. Even though there are no such instructions on webportal, it's must at least in Chandigarh office. I had to convince a senior guy, who was helpful and got me print using his own printer but not all were lucky and had to go back and get the print.

Not at Chandigarh, persons are let in at exact time, if possible, get the earliest appointment in morning. Another point, there's an additional form - I am completely missing the Type, it's not listed until you specifically look at web- some A or D type. So keep some extra cash change as you will have to buy that before documents are checked at the reception counter. Pro tip - buy from the photocopier guy this form before you line up at the reception

Tatkal applications are processed faster than usual even when you are at the center, so you will get preference. Most important documents to carry, Original & Xerox of your PAN & Driving license besides other usual stuff. If there is no change in name or address on any of the documents and your old passport, nothing else is asked. In case of any change, things can get little tricky. This is from my own recent experience.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

Can you/anyone confirm if a Tatkal application requires any verification letter signed by a gazetted officer (as used to be the case many years ago)?

My wife got a Tatkal Passport done 3 years back. We got everything notarized, which we figured we didn't have to. A simple Google search returns this info: https://portal1.passportindia.gov.in...tkaalPassports

Good luck!

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

Hello everyone, I had some queries to experts here.
I have moved to a new house in 2019, and my passport was scheduled to expire in September 2020. Early in the year 2020 I had planned renewal around April 2020, but pandemic caused this to delay. More so, since international work travel is almost suspended till mid of 2021, I let the process be on hold, and kept trying first to get my Adhaar card or voter card enrolled in the new address. Somehow I managed to submit an application online for Adhaar update on July 2020, but it still shows processing. Now in early December 2020 news of Vaccine starting to roll out in USA and UK, hope of my employer of sending me out for work began rising, and hence my panic of passport renewal.

I submitted the application online, deposited fee online, and as new address uploaded proof of my bank statement with new address. Got an appointment on 22/12/2020 at my nearest PSK. I was no. 1 in the que as per the sms and was asked to report at 09:15am. Accordingly I made sure I reached at 09:00am. But to my surprise, there was not a single soul anywhere nearby. At approximately 09:10am a sweeper appeared, and told me at least 10:00am is the time when the shutter will be raised. Anyways, after waiting, I was called in around 10:15am, upon inspection of all my documents, my application was rejected stating new address proof has to be a photo passbook of scheduled nationalised and private banks. At this stage I was unsure if my bank HDFC will issue me a photo passbook or not. I tried to convince the officer showing him email statement originating from the bank's server, but he seemed to follow the rule book by the words. He said, he can process the renewal on old address and I can collect the passport from the old post office upon receipt of SMS notification.
So, on 30/12/2020 I received an SMS of passport being despatched from RPO Kolkata, and on tracking Speed post, I found out there is high chance of the same being delivered on 31/12/2020 itself. I reached the post office of my old address and enquired for the same, a very disappointing looking postman informed me, there is no way at all the passport can be hand delivered to me at the post office. Although I wanted to provide him all documents including the agreement copy of my new apartment and my original Adhaar, old Passport, Voter card, he seemed to be on his own mindset. I returned home disappointed. Upon tracking this morning, I find out my passport is being returned back to the RPO.

On some FAQs on the passport website, it is written, I can visit the RPO and request them to dispatch my passport again on the new address with a valid address proof. So, now I plan to schedule an appointment with the RPO, and at the same time visit my bank branch and request them to issue me a photo passbook which I hope will be accepted at the RPO.

I wanted to know, if anyone on T-Bhp has faced a similar situation. I shall eagerly wait to hear from any fellow Bhpians.

If by bank photo passbook, you mean that the passport office wants each passbook you provide with your photo on it and, stamped on the edge of the photo by the respective branch, then yes it is a requirement that I had adhered to at time of my renewal too and there was no issue at all in arranging for it, I feel your bank branch should not have any problem to do it, all you do is go to the branch that you have an account with and, take your passbooks and pics along and, explain to them the reason that you want it done and, they should on the spot help you stick the pics on the first page of each passbook and stamp it with their branch stamp.

Please let us know here if you face any issues.

Yes you can travel without any problem with a valid visa pasted on a cancelled passport. Just keep both passports together the new and the cancelled one.

I have travelled and can confirm this is accepted.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

1. I have to get my passport renewed. It expired in Aug 2018. Is this delay ok? or will it require police verification again etc and thus longer processing time?

2. I don't stay at the address mentioned on my passport. The address on my passport is in Hyderabad. I stay in Mumbai now. I have nothing on my name at the new address. The rent agreement also expired 40 days ago and i continue to stay at the same house based on good understanding between me and the owner.

3. I plan to visit Sion Post Office Passport Seva Kendra because its quite close to my place. Are Post Office Passport Seva Kendras as quick and efficient as the regular, dedicated Passport Seva Kendras?

4. My wife's passport will expire in April 2022. If i apply for renewal now will i get a new passport from 2022 to 2032. Or will it be from today (the day her new passport is issued) like Feb 2021 to Feb 2031?

5. Is it, if at all possible, easier to get passport renewed in Indian embassies abroad given that they would have lesser applications? Or do we have to visit India for passport renewal? I would not have an address to stay in India as i would be staying in hotels or with relatives when i visit India for short visits.

6. What's the fastest way around to get the renewed passport as i anticipate some overseas travel very soon?

7. I want to get a 60 page passport this time around. Will this increase processing time?

8. Is there any other acceptable address proof apart from bank passbook that i can easily procure? Any notarized document, anything etc.

Thank you very much in advance.
