Phew! We need a lead of 300 to not bat on this pitch again.
I literally screamed Ben Stokes when he bowled Rohit! Gill played a poor shot, Sarfaraz played an even worse one after scoring a fluent 50. Good debut fifty by Padikkal, but his technique of playing even the full deliveries from the spinners on the backfoot did him today. Seems good against the seamers, his backlift reminded me of Yuvraj!

Lead is almost 200 with 5 wickets in hand. All the 5 batters to be dismissed scored at least 50, has to be some kind of record.

Re: The Cricket Thread

We need to bat until we get bowled out. Should be ruthless here and bat England completely out of the match without even giving them a sniff of a chance.

Disappointing that Sarfaraz threw away a hundred here. Same applies for Jaiswal.

Given how well the young guys have batted, I don't think KL or Kohli should walk straight back in. The others had to wait their turn, and they took their chances. KL and Kohli can wait for their turn as well just like the others had to.

Ok, it didn’t last long.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Death, Taxes and Ash being highest wicket taker in an Indian series.

And he wasn't at his best when series started. Add his personal issues going on and this becomes a remarkable feat. 1 wicket away from another fifer which he richly deserves.

Edit- and he takes the fifer in his 100th test.

1 more wicket and that will be 10 wickets in a game. Don't think anyone has done it in their 100th test match.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So Anil Kumble predicted the result right. India win the series 4-1.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The real highlight in this series has been Gill - all the talent has finally been translated to performances! There should be no more question marks on his spot for the near future.

Jaiswal was no surprise though. Love the hunger he showed and hope he ends his test career with at least 10k test runs!

With talent pool of Sarfaraz, Jurel, Padikkal, Patidar and many others, can't help but feel for Rahane and Puajara. They have been important pillars for many years, but I doubt they'll be wearing whites in international cricket again (or playing any international cricket for that matter).

BazBall (or aggressive cricket) doesn't work against top tier sides in tough conditions. It can work against weaker teams like Pakistan, but the English were just overwhelmed and outplayed most of the time.

"There's a reason New Zealand haven't won a home Test against Australia in 31 years and none anywhere in nearly 13. The calm, controlled and consistent cricket they play against other nations seems to disappear in the Tasman winds whenever their neighbours arrive from across the ditch."
Another win for Oz, from 80/5 chasing 279 they won by 7 wickets. What a team

And Pat Cummins did a Hardik Pandya by denying Alex Carey the well deserved 100.

Edit : I believe I can trust him as he usually comes across as a honest guy.

On being asked about Carey missing out on his century, he says he didn't have the idea he was on 98 and it feels embarrassing.

Very well said. Aggressive and risky batting will not work against a bowling line up where all 5 bowlers are top class. You might upset the rhythm of one bowler, but the others will ensure this can't go on for a long time. Even in a worst case it might come off in a match(Ollie Pope in Hyd) or two, but not in a long series.

We saw that yesterday, where Bairstow was hitting Ashwin, but Kuldeep was able to get him out.

On top of this, ENG bowling has been the weakest. You can't have an attack full of debut bowlers and make them bowl insane number of overs. I know Jimmy Anderson is there, but he bowled very few overs to make any significant impact.

Re: The Cricket Thread

10 more days to IPL
Excited to see Rishabh Pant back again.
I think SRH will win this time going by Pat Cummins’ streak.
My top 4 qualifiers prediction: CSK, SRH, MI and RR.
