Re: The Cricket Thread

The BCCI has approached Stephen Fleming & Tom Moody to apply for the head coach job. The last foreign coach we had was Duncan Fletcher who was replaced by Kumble after the 2015 World Cup.

My concern is however the CAC panel who will be "interviewing" these accomplished candidates. With all due respect, can Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape & Sulakshana Naik really interview people like Fleming, Moody or Dravid? The BCCI should find a way to get the likes of SRT, MSD & GG into the CAC to make it more credible.

Agree about the Specialist Coaches for specific formats. BCCI panel should see why Gary Kirsten & John Wright gelled well with the team or how Virat-Shastri worked so well! Problem is foreign coaches are happier working for 3 months in India for an IPL gig unless BCCI is really willing to pay a very very high salary to them.

Fleming is an excellent choice.
However he manages CSk coaching all over the world. With MSD most probably gone after this season I don't see CSk letting go of Fleming. Plus he must be getting well paid by CSk. Moody is also a good choice as he understands white ball game. Split coaching should be the way. VVS for tests. Moody or someone similar for white ball. Gives less burden. To coaches and players too are happy.

Looks like speculation about VVS was just rumors. Coaching job is getting more interesting by the hour.

I remember reading somewhere that Ponting isn't keen on spending 9 months in a year away from family! Fleming is already handling Super Kings franchisee all over the world, surely India Cements are paying him well. All these reports are pure speculation I think.

Re: The Cricket Thread

With Samson's precipitous drop in form post team announcement and Pant's continuous performance, it is all but set that Pant will be in the playing XI.
Samson's wait will continue to be part of the first XI.

PS: Performance of our selected XI (barring a few: Pant, Kohli, Bumrah, Kuldeep) seems to be in doldrums.

Even Kuldeep was hit for 52 runs in his 4 overs last game. Jaiswal has completely lost his form and we all know how good Rohit is doing.

Let's stop speculating. There is no point. At the end of the day it will again come to how team does in knockouts. Scheduling has been done in a way that India goes to next stage. It simply doesn't matter if Samson plays or Pant plays or who does. Judging by history let's keep our expectations extremely low and we will be fine.

Performances of players & teams will keep fluctuating for a tournament being played over 2 months + 14 matches! Its all about peaking at the right time.

Still can’t believe, how selectors decided to go ahead with Dubey in place of Rinku

Re: The Cricket Thread

Some would call it doublespeak, others will identify this as an assertion that was long overdue.

Context: Rohith's tête-à-tête with KKR's Abhishek Nayar being telecast repeatedly, leading to certain speculations about the former's future in IPL.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Just watched the Kutti stories episode of Ash with Gautam Gambhir on you tube.

Amazing episode. Loved it. Gambhir is such a clear straight forward person and probably that's why he is so much misunderstood and PR obsessed people hate him. This interview again showed why Gambhir is the kind of coach Indian team needs. Bcci should get out of chasing Yes man people if they really want India to win trophies and hire Gambhir.

World cup is starting tomorrow.
Have created a league in Dream 11 manager mode just like we did for IPL. - https://www.dream11.com/manager-mode...eId=4751331748

Re: The Cricket Thread

Gautam Gambhir is likely to become next India head coach.

Quote:
Gautam Gambhir has shown interest in taking up the head coach role
Gambhir hasn't been approached formally, but things have moved forward
Quote:
It remains to be seen if the BCCI will conduct interviews for the head coach role through the Cricket Advisory Committee, considering the likelihood of Gambhir taking up the role

Re: The Cricket Thread

Unless there is a mindset change in Indian cricket team and the team moves away from personal milestone I don't see this team moving beyond the semis.
