There isn't any government involvement here, the tag providers are all private/public sector financial institutions/banks.

In my friend's case, it was ICICI. Basically, the dealership interfaced with ICICI to procure the tag on behalf of the customer.
ICICI would have created a fastag account, generated a customer ID and registered the mobile number of the customer.

This information wasn't provided to my friend by ICICI or the dealer, so he is unable to login to his account on the portal to check balance/recharge, etc.

My new car Tag was done through Paytm by the dealer. They did the complete procedure before the delivery of my car. I could see all details in my paytm app, even before I could get the delivery of my car.

Hi Ritesh, Is the paytm tag the smaller one? Can you post a pic if feasible?

Update:
The Fastag was there in the documents file. It was not fixed on the car. The car is still on Temp Plates. I guess the RC copy will have to be sent to update the Fastag once the car is registered.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Got my windshield cracked by a falling mango while driving through Kerala. Now looking at ways of moving my FastTag to the new windshield. Has anyone been able to successfully lift the Tag and use that on the new windshield?
Planning to use a heat gun to mildly heat the tag and lift that carefully.
Open for suggestions!

In the older model tags, the chip gets damaged very easily. My advice would be to go for a replacement tag.

Hope the tag/chip doesn't lose its effectiveness.

I was in a similar situation last year. Got the tag replaced free of cost from the Lanco/Hosakote toll plaza (where I had procured itfrom). The new tag was mapped to my existing account. Only thing is, they need proof that the older tag has been taken off the vehicle.

Wouldn't recommend reusing the tag.

I had the same problem on the way back from KIAL. Automatic Gate showed red, diverted to manual lane, where even the manual scan did not work and hence paid cash. The toll staff seemed to know the fact that the automatic sensor would not work, but simply shrugged their shoulders. ICICI Fastag

Please escalate it to NHAI since this may not be limited to ICICI tags.

You can mail them the details at -

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I am using Paytm FasTag for last 6 months. Never faced any issue till now. But all toll transactions done on weeknd trip, are showing as a failure in Paytm passbook. Am I lucky() or PayTm will deduct the money later?

They have a standard reply saying it was down only for few hours and rest of time the system works absolutely fine. I have raised atleast 10 complaints via email and PG Portal till now and it has been of no use .

I have always been adamant in these cases saying that I won't pay cash. Sonner than later, either a working scanner comes out from another plaza or they just let me go.

FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Just did a Bangalore -Hyderabad- Bangalore trip. Tag was read at all tolls.

Except for the stray incident where a non Fastag vehicle entered the lane, it was smooth sailing. Did both ways at around 6hrs:30 mins each, with around 3 stops for chai.

Attachment 1756517

Took just one photo of the trip meter on the way to Hyd. This was the average maintained through the trip. This included the car kept running during the chai stops to ensue I protect the turbos and yes the air conditioning as I was driving through a 43 degree C temperatures.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Did a Bangalore - Chikmagalur run yesterday and surprisingly even though there wss decent crowd at tolls the hygene in the Fastag lane was maintained at least from the first barricade. Even in the dreaded Nelamangla toll booth, people were sent away at the beginning of the lane. So this will take some time but after that its smooth. Earlier they were not enforcing it at all and used to let all vehicles in the Fastag lane.

Also in the Lanco and L&T tolls they have mentioned in the entrance to the lane that non Fastag users will be charged double toll if they enter the Fastag lane. The real test will be when I return, since thats the end of a long weekend.
