Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Twitter is saying there's been a fatal accident at Iblur junction involving a pedestrian. Could be related.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I came to work today for a compensatory for the bundh. It was all clear at 830AM and the ORR was empty. Perhaps this empty road created the potential for an accident.

Apparently a BMTC bus hit a pedestrian who died on the spot :( near Iblur 3rd or 4th incident in the recent weeks. Residents of the area had been demanding proper pedestrian crossing facilities for a long time now and apparently a group of protesters blocked the road causing the pile up.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Been hearing different version on what vehicle was involved in accident (BMTC bus, water tanker, cement mixer). However, it seems a pedestrian was killed in an accident and people has blocked the road.

There been protests from residents earlier too requesting proper walkways at Iblur junction and Sarjapur road, the work started last month by BBMP had stopped midway, there was some harsh words on that in resident groups here. May be all this boiled over today.

Got this pic from HVK forums WA group.

Here is a news about this accident.

Quote:
Another accident along Sarjapur Road has led to the death of a 50-year-old Bengaluru resident on Saturday morning. Muniyappa, an employee at Axis Bank, was crossing the road near the Iblur Bus Stop at 10 am, when he was hit by a concrete mixer.

Very sad, even this news would be forgotten in few days and family members would suffer forever.

It's almost impossible for pedestrians to cross the road in normal hours in the entire ORR stretch, if government lacks funds to build proper Skywalks(with escalator) every 100 meters they should make it mandatory for the property owners (commercial establishments or tech parks) to build and maintain it, in turn they can use the extra space for advertisements etc.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Took the BETL Elevated Highway to work today after going via NICE Road during the last week. They have banned buses on the tollway now - URL

At some point the road becomes a two way road with sharing of one lane with oncoming traffic and here the traffic density increases. Just before this shift happens, there is a policeman who does a manual signal and controls the traffic. Overall this slows things down. I think the travel time on the elevated maybe similar to the road below due to these issues...

The Buses and other HCVs were banned to enter from Silkboard side earlier when work was underway on the Silkboard - EC corridor. While this was being done, I always saw buses in all shapes and sizes on the EC- Silkboard corridor.

Now they have finished the work on Silkboard - EC stretch and have begun fixing the joints on the EC - Silkboard stretch so the ban for all types of buses and HCVs from EC side.

I feel this will be more effective this time. While Silkboard side entry is free for all, entry from the EC side has toll gates. So, controlling vehicles from EC side will easier than from Silkboard IMO.

The barricades that had width that would barely allow only a TT to pass at Silkboard side also has someone manning it. Looking at the barricade no bus driver would have even dared to try entering it.

At EC side although toll booth will come to rescue, am sure they will still have to manage traffic by putting appropriate signage at the right place.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Not sure if this has been reported earlier, learnt the hard way last evening
The Nagavarapalya main road has been closed off for some repair work (I guess it is BWSSB), so one cannot reach the Gopalan Grand Mall/More supermarket from the C V Raman Nagar side. Was heading there last evening when I stopped abruptly on seeing an autorickshaw parked bang in the middle of the road, just a few buildings before the Grand Mall!
Had to backtrack, take the Old Madras road and make a U-turn near Haiku Honda and head back below the railway underpass to make a left turn to reach the mall.
The only signage for this work is on the Old Madras road side (at the beginning of the road) and nowhere else, especially nothing on the other end of road, so it can be a big shocker if you head that way.

Not sure when it was started, however it was closed since last Sunday atleast.

My cousin who stays in that area was mentioning about this when we met over weekend. Strange since its a busy road and closing it for close to a week will be difficult for regular users.

Spotted this at Bengaluru Traffic Police's FB page with bellow note(Copied it as it is).

A curve after commando hospital towards domalur is too dangerous.....accidents of vehicles hitting median are reported....so we have kept a reflective barricade to alert drivers.

Woah, doesn't that thing sticking out make it more dangerous?!

What a stopgap solution, what happens when that thing starts to move around and metal bits get broken off?! Hopefully this is temporary till something more permanent and safe can be installed.

No not at all dangerous for us bangalore drivers, infact more fun. It's kept there so that you take the racing line through the corner and hit the apex. They don't want us to miss the apex hence kept it on the outside of the curve.

We like to hit the apex whenever there is a corner inspite of the traffic on a 3 lane road you will notice cabbies and buses always taking the racing line.

Hence this poses no danger at all.
