How about the speed breakers/Spine Breakers/suspension wreckers? Anyone and everyone in this city can put one in front of his place. I have read sometime back in a newspaper that there are some 100 odd speed breakers in this city illegally and this is told by a top brass in police dept and he has no clue as to the number of speed breakers... add to that he went on to say that the roads are maintained by BBMP and they should take care of this. Who on earth is going to implement the rules? BBMP or Police? Why can't they work together on this. also the speed limit implementation should be rigorous. Like the penalty of violation should be high that every one starts following the rules. Does anyone think of going in the wrong direction in USA? Why? Coz the penalty is high and you getting caught very high probability and you do it multiple times, your license is gone. So the deterrent is penalty/lack of penalty. On the other hand our police are very brave to catch a motor cyclist without helmet but he will happily let go a Scorpio jump the median and cross the road, or BBMP bus jumping the red light.

Re: My Rant on Bangalore Traffic (and now even a note of appreciation... its not all

An ex-colleague of mine tells me that he was driving near Agara junction and got rammed from behind by a car last night. And some drunken goons got off the car behind him and started threatening him saying that the accident was his fault and asked for money. And there were cops standing closeby. When he appealed to them, they asked him to just pay up and leave and not create any trouble.

Maddening thing is that he is from Bangalore (AFAIK) and can speak Kannada fluently (this I know for a fact). The cops were even ready to stoop to the level of filing a case against my friend for drunken driving! And the goons also tried to take his laptop from the car when all this tamasha was going on. He finally left after giving them whatever money he had in his pockets. And the public watched. And the cops watched.

This is just horrifying.

This just proves that it doesn't matter if you're a local person. Some goons are out there for the purpose of extortion. I guess they wait for their prey and pounce on them.

Did your friend brake hard just before being rear-ended? Or was it a planned thing?

The locality mentioned isn't very safe, I'm told. It's known for such incidents.

No, there was no braking hard. Looks like its a planned thing cause there was a small-time-politician-guy also waiting for this scene to unfold. He was the one pushing the cops to book my friend for drunken driving. And this poor guy is a teetotaler!.

I wonder what recourse can be taken in such a situation that will result in the innocent party coming out of it with dignity intact and no loss of life, limbs or personal goods. None comes to my mind at least.

This is exactly the reason why we need CCTVs on every street. Law enforcement authorities taking videos or pictures on the sly is called 'surveillance' and not voyeurism, as long as it is used correctly. EDIT: As long as it is USED, in the first place.

PLEASE have him post this on the Bangalore Police's FB page. I hope your friend managed to get the reg. no. of the car or the names of the cops on duty.

I really want to see if they have it in them to actually do their job. They seem to be good at only one thing - hypocrisy.

Yes, thanks for the info. I've asked him to post it on the page. Hopefully, something will happen.

Got to commend the improvement in traffic flow on the ORR once the lanes near the Carnation junction have opened. This junction used to be a bottleneck during peak hours, but with the opening of the additional lanes, traffic flow has been a lot smoother.

Eagerly awaiting for Bellandur flyover to be completed.

Benny,

It was a shortlived happiness.

Yesterday night, the service-lanes opposite to Carnation (Aricent adjacency) were blocked completely; effectively leaving two lanes for traffic proceeding towards Prestige Tech Park. Add to it a broken-down BMTC bang in the middle, it took a good 30+mins at 9PM to move from Cisco campus to Prestige Tech Park.

Re: My Rant on Bangalore Traffic (and now even a note of appreciation... its not all

I was on my way back from work at 9.30pm. Boarded a 335E at ITPL.

The moment the bus started, I knew the driver wasn't in a good mood. He accelerated wildly, drove extremely close to every vehicle, braked very very hard and in the nick of time and drove ALL over the road.

After 5min of this non-sense, I called the conductor and asked him to tell the driver to drive properly. He said nothing. I told the conductor again and this time he ignored me at which point I threatened to lodge a complaint. He said "ha, complaint kar do" (Go ahead and lodge a complaint)

I discussed this with a couple of co-passengers and no one cared; they all sat mute.

It boiled my blood to see how the driver took the bus passengers, road and other vehicular traffic completely for granted and drove extremely irresponsibly. I really wish I had the authority to punish him for that. Unfortunately, I sat helpless.

Is there anyone who has the sense and will to do something about this? I'm ready to lodge complaints wherever. There needs to be a start for the Volvo drivers to start behaving themselves.

Volvo no. KA 01 F 9114
335E
Apprx time of departure from ITPL : 2125, 1st Dec '11.

See if you could lodge a complaint here: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation

If you don't get a response, put it up on the BTP Facebook page. Now if that doesn't work out either, take the Corsa to work

In vain is all I can say. I have lodged complaints against KSRTC and BMTC by writing emails to their email IDs mentioned in the website but have never received even an acknowledgement.

I had mailed on how most of the 365 and 356 B7Rs didn't have functional brake lamps that put most of the tailing traffic at risk because of the way they abruptly stopped in the middle of the road. I had also complained about the same to VOLVO India who at least bothered to ask my mobile number and called me also since the driver of the Volvo said that Brake light is a problem with most buses (when I had bothered to stop and roll down and ask him why it was not working and I mentioned the same in my email to Volvo and BMTC as well).

Second time, I had mailed KSRTC on how badly their buses ignore rules and overtake from the opposite lane on NH 48 (This was in 2008).

I had clearly mentioned if they want me to drop a written complaint but none of the mails were responded.
