Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Spotted on sarjapur road - maruti omni van with its rear hatchback door open and flapping up and down. Some provisions (cooking oil bottles, rice bags etc) in the back of the vehicle wobbling around. If any of that stuff had fallen - especially the oil, we'd have seen quite a lot of vehicles skidding on it.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

This morning's drive to work was just one of those (good) days
Free flowing traffic on Old Madras Road, hanging bridge, K R Puram, Devasandra, Hoodi - really unbelievable, this at the usually peak traffic time between 8:20-8:50am. From Hoodi junction to ITPL was quite slow but trudged along taking 10 minutes

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Does anyone know the reason for yesterdays traffic jam near Bellandur on ORR?

Well, usually traffic blocks occur on this stretch for no apparent reason. However, what was peculiar yesterday was it started at around 04:15 and continued till around 07:15. Hence the query.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Yesterday evening at 1800 on the first elevated section after Esteem Mall:

1. 2W coming the wrong way on the fast lane near Jakkur!
2. 2 2W with one pushing the other at 20 km on the fast lane!

Wish these 3 nuggets of humanity had met each other (and hopefully got closer to their maker) right there and then, thereby leaving law-abiding motorists to reach home in peace.

It is only in our country that such guys will get away safely at the cost of proving deadly for others.
In the west and most other developed countries as well, this will almost surely lead to a fatal end for such perpetrators who use the wrong side of the road to zip down.

Amen to that

A colleague had narrated an incident, when one of his Indian friends rented a car in the UK and was on their way to some castle or fort up in the north. He missed the exit from the motorway. As soon as he realised his folly, he reversed the car a few metres. In the process, a biker who was doing motorway speeds just managed to stop, but not without giving a visible dent to the car's rear bumper and a few scratches to his bike and helmet in the process. To make things interesting, a cop sprang up from somewhere. What was intriguing was the fact that the cop wanted to book the rider for tailgating and dangerous riding and was not believing that the car was coming in reverse, which caused this mishap. I don't remember what happened afterwards, but this shows the confidence the law enforcers have on the drivers.

What about morons who cross railway tracks with earphones unable to hear the honking by the engine loco driver??

A day will dawn on India wherein even the train loco pilots will be forced to stop the train to allow such morons to cross the tracks rather than run over them.

There is one problem with your wish. For these morons to meet each other in front of the maker, some law abiding citizen will have to collide into them. Imagine the trouble that poor chap will have to go through. He will be beaten up by the villagers. Then 7-8 litres of his blood will be sent to laboratories to check blood alcohol level. After many years, he will be sent to jail for driving rashly and dangerously.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Bellandur is a plethora of problems especially while going from Bellandur to Yemalur and emerging out behind old airport. Since the last two days my commute from Bellandur to Yemalur which is usually a 15 min drive with minimal or some traffic has taken 1 1/2 hours. The reasons -
1) Flying foam from the sewage under the bridge on the Bellandur side of the Bellandur lake. Two wheelers just freeze while the foam is flying in the breeze and thus cause long lines.
2) The second reason is that the Kariyamanna Agrahara Road coming from Prestige Tech Park is seeing an unusually high number of vehicles which is causing lots of problems at the junction where the road next to the lake and this road meet. This is causing long lines on both roads.
3) The road is dug up in Yemalur and no one has taken the pains to fill the gaping hole made in the middle of the road. This is narrowing the already narrow road.
4) The complete non-cooperative nature of two wheelers who see oncoming traffic but refuse to use common sense and run a high risk of collision. Same applies to autorickshaw drivers and some desparate cabbies.
5) Apathy of the administration to make good roads which makes traffic flow much quicker. Bad roads , slow traffic and more pile-ups.

Is there any govt website where this bad road condition can be highlighted ?

Probably we need to follow the footsteps of what the painter did the other day by creating a crocodile to highlight the sorry state of affairs in Bangalore.
Probably we need to create whirlpool images to indicate that people can be sucked into the potholes if not closed.

Ah Yes. Do remind them to close the pothole with TAR and not mud as this has become the norm now a days.

apparently the concerned government body has skin as thick as a croc and such obvious hints about citizens suffering does not penetrate them. Actually the IT capital of India has no E-governance website where people can lodge their complaints or give suggestions on civic amenities or rather the lack of them.
The sluggish response time of the local government is causing this I feel.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

A query for regulars on the Jayanagar/BTM-ITPL stretch - I need to go to Thubarahalli (a km ahead of Kundalahalli gate) tomorrow evening at around 5.30 PM from Banshankari bus stand. If I were to drive this stretch, how is the traffic on ORR at that time of the day? I know it is very bad on the opposite side, but no idea about the other side. How much time could it take approximately?
Google maps gives an estimate of 1.40 to 2 hours to cover the 21km journey by car.
