Something about QD, Megs QD is good but little expensive to have it for daily use. I would suggest ONR as an alternative and not expensive to use it daily also.
rk_sans, thanks a lot for the response and the tips. Will try my best to follow proper washing. Black is a very difficult to color to maintain.
BTW, I tried the Armor-All glass cleaner and it's working fine and cleaning the glass nicely.

Re: GEX 150

Hi All,

I had to come back empty handed on Saturday as the dealer didn't have the pads to come along with the product. So I have another weekend to research before I take the plunge.

Also I would like to know if I get a Porter cable 7424 xp from US and use a step down converter (220 to 110) here in India, will that hamper the performance / life span of the machine?

Sudipta,
I was actually of the same opinion earlier but PC comes with 60hz and i checked with them directly and they were of the opinion that it might burn the motor and they do not recommend it. So i dropped the plan of getting that. PC had 50~60hz polisher but not available as of now. Also i am not sure how does hz matters in india conditions but the converter will be only for Voltage and not for Hz.
Other suggestions are Kestrel or Megs DA-UK version(Should be available by end of April).
How much does the Bosch would cost in Hyderbad ?

Guys I too am looking to import the PC7424XP orthe Meguair's G220. However with the Porter Cable, one would require a step down transformer (min. 500Watts) which has to be procured locally. If there are more people who want the DA, we can get it together. Please post here if anyone is interested.

@sumitb,
You are right but the hz is what matters in these DA's. Any electronics people can confirm if it makes huge difference with a electronic component with 60hz rating. Most of the small electronic gadgets we get from US would be 50~60hz mentioned and those are not a problem at all. But this one has clearly 60hz. Anybody well versed with electronics confirm about hz rating ?

Re: GEX 150

The Bosch GEX 150 costs around 9000 at Hyderabad.

It is nearly impossible for me to get it from UK/Europe as we don't have any one travelling from there.

On a side note, as per my research, the difference only in hertz (cycles per second) and that too on the lower side should not have a motor burning effect of any machine. I would like to seek more knowledge from my fellow bhpians on this topic as I need to make a decission by end of day today if I have to order Porter Cable from US.

@ SumitB,

As far as my knowledge goes the G220 V2 is not available at US. you will only get G110 V2

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

PC can be ordered through SYW site and they deliver it home in India. Just checked the SYW site, it is Rs.7500 and then add another Rs.1000-Rs.1200 for converter.
If somebody confirms that Hz is not an issue, then it is definitely good to buy the PC.

Also you are right about G220 V2 is not available in US even G110 V2 is out of stock and they are expecting the V3 to be available by this month end.

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

I think the hertz issue is too overrated! Enthusiasts in UK have been using a step-down-transformer with the PC7424XP for quite sometime now and as far as I know, UK has the same voltage and hertz rating as ours.

More information here.

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

The link has very old info, PC had a polisher with 120v 50~60hz that time. So by just using the converter you could use it. The new one is just 60Hz.
I will try and post a query over there in that website to get an answer.
Here is an pic from PC site about the PC 110v 50~60hz.

I read some good reviews about QD from Meguiar`s in this forum, what is confusing me is - collinite, NXT TechWax2.0 are renowned product and they last some time, so if the QD is not going to come in contact (assuming the collinte etc would create a layer to protect the paint/body) with the paint/body, how QD is going to affect the shine/gloss?
@AvonA7: Meguiar`s 'Quick Detailer ' as the name says is a 'Quick Detailer'. It should be used only when you are too busy to perform detailing procedures. The flip side is QD's longitivity is very less, say about week or 10 days MAX; even more less in the hot blazing Indian summer.
If you have already topped NXT with Collinite-845 then you are speaking of some serious water beading longitivity say in terms are atleast 3-4 months. I would say you can use QD only in case you need showglaze shine that too after say 1.5 months in normal conditions. You may need QD earlier if your paint was really abused with bird poo like events .

* Some of the Meguiar's product are now available in Pune off the shelf. If you are already aware of this, please ignore this point.
Well thats a good news. Please do share where its available in Pune.
Is it at the 3M Shop somewhere on Nagar Road / Viman nagar??
Would like to check it out.

If you guys are looking to import one, I'd recommend Griot's garage DA instead of PC7424XP

- Griot's Garage 6 inch Random Orbital Polisher, Dual action buffer, DA polisher

Much powerful and an overall better machine!

But you'll need a converter rated at 900W to run it!

UK alternative to that is Kestrel DAS-6 Pro power plus(same specs as Griot's polisher) but doesn't need any converter as such!

Count me in too, if you're getting these!
