No harm in trying hard.

These mounts do cost a pretty packet.

Hi, This is my first post on team-bhp. I just joined today. Please excuse me for any posting errors.
in April 2012, one of the engine mounts of my 2009 Civic gave way. The workshop did not replace it under warranty. In August, after reading posts on TBHP, i called up Honda One2One and asked them why i was denied warranty. Next day the workshop called me and refunded my money(8600 INR) by way of credit note.
Call Honda directly in case there is a problem
Thanks

Thanks Hiren, just added that information to my diary. What I wrote was what had picked up from the Owner's Manual - a real pain to find anything in there.

Same issue with my car too. The gear change has suddenly gone very Jerky. Although in my 60k comprehensive service I got Fuel and Air Filter, Oil Filter, Engine Oil changed and injectors cleaned too, but no success. The jerky gearbox is the same. Even more troublesome when you are pushing the car from 0.

Can this mean a problem with Spark plugs? That's the last guess as per my knowledge.

@gauvrav

Did you replace your gearbox oil ? its recommended to do so every 60k kms for Manual transmission and 40k for AT
also
Check the clutch, If the diaphragm starts getting hard then the clutch gets jerky, More so on 0-100 launches.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Need help - Civic MT. Got mintex brake pads (front and rear) installed at 42k kms, now the car has run only 13k more kms & the mech says time to change brake pads. Even Honda says they need replacement (another 500kms life left) He says this is normal and Civic ATs brake pads need replacement at around 7k kms!.

Is this true? If yes, then normal braking costs Re 1/km!!!

One more problem am facing, there is huge rust coming on to the discs. Goes easily after washing. What could this mean?

Thats ridiculous.I dont agree at all.My AT has done 48000 Km and the stock brake pads are doing fine.

Regarding Rust on Discs, Instruct the guys who clean your car daily not to clean the wheels by throwing water on it.If they do, make sure you run the car so that Discs get dried up completely.

Is Mintex what HASS provides as OE brake pads. You can go for Nissin as these are much cheaper at a fraction of the HASS cost and are as good.
Rust like dust etc is common in the rainy season.Observe the dics after a drive and see if they are clean. At the most you would need disc cleaning if there is no shuddering of the brake pedal when it's engaged.

Car is running on BMC Cold air intake+FFE. So got the mintex installed to improve braking by the tuner. But only 13k-14k life is something which is bit hard to digest. Are Nissin as good as Mintex as breaking power considerably increased. What are they priced at?

Sumeet,

What is the progress on the front of your engine mount change?

It surely does make a significant amount of difference to the NVH levels inside the cabin. Go for it.

BTW. Thanks for your response on my insurance query, on the other thread.

Same here. My A/T has done 48K Kms and have stock pads. But looks like they may need to be changed at 50K service. No brake judder or vibration till date

They are priced around 1.8-2K.I am not sure about the longevity though. They are a good replacement to the OE pads i guess.

The Mintex being High performance brake pads they usually have higher brake bite than the stock and hence friction and tempratures developed are higher and hence Higher rate of brake pad wear.
Your Lucky to get 14k kms out of your pads one of forum member running a similar brake setup on his civic he got only 9-10k kms.

For that matter of fact i had changed the rear brake pads of my civic at 39k kms when i had bought the car now the clock stands at 55k kms in 2years that translates to 16k kms and now they are up for a change.

And these are OE Nissin Pads.
Under heavy braking the brake pad wear rate is very high, i have done many spirited runs and hence the wear in 16k kms. Under normal driving rear OE pads should last 20k minimum.

For your setup i think OE pads should do fine, Make sure you get original Nissin Made In Japan pads.
Rears are fr 2.6k(price increased recently)
fronts 3k+
also while at it make sure you get your discs resurfaced by sending it to a turners place (lathe wala).
And before doing any spirited runs or heavy breaking let the brakes run-in for 400kms (this fact is stated in the owners manual also)

But ultimately deciding between high performance Mintex pads and OE Nissin is your call as you know your car best.

Hope this helps.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Thanks a ton Jatin for the inputs. That surely helps. Just have a doubt, why most of the people on the forum state stock pads life between 35-50k kms and not around 20k or lesser.
Another doubt I have is mintex claims that their brake pads lasts longer than stock brake pads. Isn't it contradictory?

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

If The car is used hardcore city bumper to bumper traffic and 0% highway runs like mine then 20k is max life for an AT car for manual say 30k Max and with some careful and conservative driving 40k but then its stretching it to the last strand which is not worth it with on the brakes part considering civic being super eager and responsive + heavy car.

If a person does say 70% highway driving and 30% in hardcore traffic and if he drives on Highway + city super super saintly and hypermiling then achieving 50k out of brake pads is possible but then whats the point of using a civic if you cant enjoy her.

If I wanted hypermileing then i would bought a Diesel and enjoyed the mileage but then are the cost effective current crop of diesels have a comparable engine response of a R18A1 ?

But then to each to his Own.

Regards to claim of mintex its claimed under "Ideal Testing Conditions"
So this explains the claim.
