EDIT : Redlining the engine is what I've read for the first time, sounds interesting. Its it advisable to do it before servicing or later?

Get the following changed:

-- Air filter
-- Oil filter
-- Fuel filter
-- Cabin air filter
-- Engine oil
-- Brake fluid
-- Check for brake pads and shoes health
-- Wheel alignment
-- Wheel Balancing
-- Wheel Rotation.

For the redlining thing do it before the oil change.

Great looking and looks to be done well - Quality of workmanship is good too. Do post some good pictures when possible.

Finally took delivery of Glistening Grey Swift ZXI today evening from Bimal Auto Guwahati. Total discounts after much haggling was 5891/-. Total cost is Rs 7,34,000/- which includes nearly 42000/- of road tax(15 years), Seat Covers for Rs 6900/-, Diamond Kit for Rs 5000/-. I took insurance from Bajaj Allianz for 14600/-. Extended warranty is taken upto 4th year.

Finally got time to take some snaps of my new Swift ZXI.
The car is a hoot to drive just like my 15 year old Maruti 800. Road manners are impeccable. Engine noise is minimum and the engine start stop button just works.

You owned a petrol Polo earlier, right? It would be great if you pen down the differences, especially in terms of driveability and road manners of both cars.

The diamond kit of 5009 includes door protector, matting for front, rear and boot, mudflaps, and perfume. Apart from that I spent 6900 for original maruti swift seat covers. The floor mats feature swift sport logo.The car colour is decided by wifey

I haven't driven the Swift much but following differences are there with my previous Polo Highline:

-Swift shorter than Polo but a little wider
-Front and rear seats of Swift is more spacious than Polo plus the floor hump is lesser in Swift. Family feels more comfortable in the Swift
-Suspension of Polo is slightly better than the Swift especially in handling potholes
-Driving dynamics of petrol swift much better than the petrol Polo since Polo's engine had only 3 cylinders
- Polo's boot of 280 litres bigger than 204 litres of Swift but I don't require much boot space and secondly the 60:40 rear seat can be splitted in Swift to accommodate more luggage
- Swift is much easier to drive in bumper to bumper traffic inside city.
-Maruti vehicles have more peace of mind feeling than Volkswagen's at least in North East India

Got Delivery of Swift VXi. I had earlier traded in Grand i10 diesel for this car :

1) Engine :
Seems more powerful than Grand i10 diesel which it is.
Very nice bottom end. For the 30+ kms. I drove today, gear shifts were less than Grand i10 under similar conditions. 4th gear, 1000 rpm and Swift moves. Grand i10 diesel would have struggled badly.
For a small capacity petrol, bottom end is strong. 1st is rarely required, 2nd through bumps, etc. is effortless. 1250 rpm in 5th and it wont complain.
Yet to experience the motor on highway.

2) Ride and Handling : Awesome. Mature, well tuned and stable.
Mom felt like Swift is safer and heavier car than Grand i10. Basically, the higher stability, better ride and seats gives a lot of comfort.

3) Lights : Much, much better than Grand i10. But even at highest settings, the throw is a bit too near. This I can adjust. Beam spread is excellent.

Could not review it more, but feels so good and comfortable. Money well spent. Swift deserves to be a king of sales chart, specially considering the ride and handling, good motor. Overall, an effortless drive as compared to my earlier car.

What is running-in procedure ? Manual says that for first 960 kms. one has to keep the engine at moderate speeds. I am afraid to cross 3000 rpm. Max I took today was 2250 rpm. At the same time I feel that manual is overtly on safer side.

Fantastic sir. Have a great, happy, peaceful ownership experience with the Swift.

For the lights, to better them further, change the OEM bulbs to Philips Xtreme Vision H4 (60/55W). They do heel a lot of difference without voiding warranty. Do check my Swift thread for details and pictures.

Regarding Run-in: Do not sweat. Leo it simple.

Rule 1: Do NOT drive at a constant speed for longer duration.

Rule 2: Continuously modulate the Speed and rpm.

Rule 3: For a few seconds to revv the engine a bit so as to get it experience of high RPM. But keep it at that band for a few seconds.

Rule 4: Avoid longer idling.

Rule 5: Do change the oil and oil filter once you click 1000 kms. MASS will not do it but do it at an FNG. This is up to you, no hard and fast rule.

Add to above, please do not brake hard / avoid sudden braking for about 500 kms to bed in brakes properly.

Thats the toughest part, considering that most of the running is going to happen in city, some hard braking shall be necessary. I am, however, able to avoid it till now.

For lights, TBHP member Altocumulus had installed Ring Automotive 60/55W bulbs in his Ritz. I ordered the same from flipkart (the first set were duplicate and next one was genuine ) and they were quite good in Grand i10, more than 40% change from OE bulbs. i10 OE were halonix, got Osram and then Ring Automotive. Ring bulbs are gone with i10 and my Swift has Osram as OE bulbs.
I wish to try out Ring bulbs but yet to decide. The initial euphoria of new car is yet to settle down.

The minor glitch I am facing is CD read error. I put the CD, its played, then switch to FM and then again to CD. The CD read error comes up. The same CD works well in Waggie and Innova. But this is minor problem.
Tomorrow or day after, I will try out USB.
Car has done 130+ kms. in two days. The FE is shown as 16.3 which I expect to further improve after running-in. I am practically driving the car at 1000-1250 rpm range.

Do plan the moves and acceleration not that aggressive then there is no need to do sudden braking.

For lights, as long as it is OEM specifications, brands do not matter. Not that MASS is worried or checks until you have claim electrical related warranty.

My new Swift ZXI is returning mileage figures of only around 13 kmpl inside the city. Maruti called me up today and they also agreed that it should return minimum figures of 15-16 kmpl. They assured me that the problem will be checked on the first service .Keeping my fingers crossed for now.
The driving dynamics of the Swift 1.2 K series engine is way ahead of the 3 cylinder petrol engine in Polo Highline(my previous vehicle). I have never felt so much fun in my lifetime driving a vehicle like the Swift.

Assuming 13 kmpl in purely city traffic, its quite good actually. And if the figure is with AC on, then too good!

Only Alto and Nano return mileage more than 13 in city driving. 1.2 L segment cars like Swift/Brio/Grand return average in the range of 11-12.5 kmpl in typical stop-and-go Indian city traffic.

You said first service so i am assuming that the car hasn't completed its first 1k kms. If that is the case don't worry the average will increase once the run in is over. In my dzire diesel i used to get about 15-16 in the first 1k kms. Yours being a petrol 13 is quiet respectable. The average will improve post first service, remember to reset the MID after each refuel.

Would also suggest an oil change in the first service you would notice the difference in the drive and BTW congratulations on your new swift
