re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Today changed the tyre to Goodyear Assurance , the dealer was giving a postive feedback about good year assurance and he mentioned the Ecosport OEM comes with GY assurance.

I paid 5k per tyre for the assurance , i was told that there was a discount going on and hence the 5k price.

I was skeptical about the price and the tyre as such a general mentality is low price means low quality .

I replaced all 4 of my SX4 ZXI's tires with Goodyear Assurance about 6 months ago and after almost 9000 KMs I can easily say that they are great value for the price. They offer a very smooth and silent ride along with above average grip levels.

Congratulations, and you got an excellent price. As I wrote before, I paid 6800 per tyre for the GY 205/60/R16. I am happy with the tyre, its been over 6 months. 5K that you paid for this tyre is like a gift.

I checked with lot of dealers in Bangalore and most of them quoting around 5 to 5.5k per tyre .

The dealer mentioned about some discount offer running currently whereby the price is now running at 5k.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Need to change my existing Bridge stone Tyre 195/65 R15 for SX4 Vxi
I enquired about Michelin
6000/tyre XM2
6200/tyre P3ST
Dealer is in HSR layout

I stay at Sarjapur Outer Ring Road

Pirelli tyre were also in same range
My usage pattern
80% city driving 20% highway
Upgrading to 205 is a good idea ?

Is there any other option apart from Michelin. Kindly help.
Any good shop where I can buy at reasonable rate

Yokohama would be a very good option. Superb value for money and as good as the Michelins.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi Nikhil and All,

After reading all the replies here I am more confused than before.
Some reviews on a particular tyre are good, some bad.
Can we all come to some conclusion here.

To summarise :

What is the best replacement tyre for the SX4 Zxi?

As we all know, OEM size is 205 x 60 x 16.
I would rather use the same size for the new tyres.
I would rather NOT use Michelin. Will definitely NOT fit JK Vectras again.
I am a bit biased towards Yokos C Drive but I understand being uni-directional the noise factor will increase after a while.

Will any of you guys who have changed tyres on their SX4 Zxi please advise which are the best to go for?

Looking for a more comfortable and silent ride.

Regards,
SS

In 205/60-16 The Goodyear Assurance is unbeatable when it comes to VFM. Super pricing and a very good all rounder tyre.

C Drives not available.(BTW, they are not unidirectional. they are Asymmetrical).

Michelins you dont want.

That leaves the GY Assurance.

My SX4 ZXI has done ~13K kms on Goodyear Assurance tyres.

As I've said earlier they are great value for the price (Rs 5600/- per piece). Go ahead, you will not be disappointed, especially at this price point.

Just as Maglev, I have run my SX4 ZXI on Goodyear Assurance tyres for more than 13 K Km. This includes a trip to Ladakh where they acquitted themselves very well.

For 5600 they are very good value for money. Micelin Primacy work out to be a bit too expensive in my opinion.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the inputs.
The dealer selling Good Year is not exactly gung-ho about the tyres.
Says they are cheap because company is not doing so well etc. etc.
Also, not currently available so dealers charging 6400.
However if two of you - Rajneesh and Maglev - have used them then that is the best reference. Also Nikhil recommending them so guess I will go with them.

Just one more question for which an early answer would be much appreciated.
The dealer has Pirelli P7 tyres in size 215x60x16.
What do you guys think about these tyres. Any issue with 215 instead of 205? Cost is 7600 per tyre. For just Rs. 1200 more per tyre is it a better bet?
Again I am looking for comfort and less noise. Mainly highway running at speeds about 120-150.

Regards,
SS

But I heard that Goodyear tires won't last long. Some people complained that the tread wear is too fast probably within first 2 years of life itself.

That is wrong. Goodyear is doing well. Yes, they are a bit low profile as a brand but it's nonsense what your dealer is telling you. Probably he isnt getting much margin on the GYs or he doesnt have stock of it and is giving some gyaan to convert you.

Which tyre specifically? Goodyear is a company which makes many models.

My SX4 ZXI had Goodyear Eagle NCT 5 (225/55 R16) before changing to Goodyear Assurance (205/60 R16 - Stock Size). My eagles were replaced after 4 years and had done above 50K with tread life left for another 5K.

I replaced them just to be on the safe side.

Oh that is good to hear you had a good experience with GY tires.

Just a generic comment I heard on GY, not specific to perticular model. BTW, is GY an Indian company ?
