One heck of a car this is, and one I really would like to stay back in Pune. Come 2015, and I might embark on my first classic car hunt.

One heck. Really? Where is the tri-pointed star? Attention to detail, as is evident , is lacking.

That said, the best W123 in Pune is "MAF/1449", a 1985 240D, in original paint. Low mileage, and what not. Period manuals et cetera. But the owner won't sell. Oh well....

There used to be a time when logos/decals/monograms were stolen from even the common cars. I would assume that the owner didn't try to get a replacement at that point since it would also get stolen.

The asking price seems reasonable, considering we have started seeing Ambassador and Premier Padmini owners asking similar quotes for their car of similar vintage.

I think MAP is Bombay, subject to correction.

If the seller is stating that is car is restored, then overlooking something as important as a monogramme is nothing short of sacrilage. Many restored cars are really wheezy at best, and tend to subscibe to "All show & no go." A really restored car is the best of both the worlds.

However, in this so called resto, lack of attention to detail is evident. Soiled seats (!) et cetera. Though, the pricing is decent enough, given the overall condition of the car. Good enough though, innit?

Agreed that "MAF", (You know MAF/350! ), "MAS", "MFA" were Bombay registrations. But, an old timer mech mentioned to me that "MAP" was a Pune registration. Now, I might've been confused, as he might've meant "MHP". Pronounced 'H' as "eecchh", so "H" might've sounded like like an 'A'....Perchance....

Now, I know that many "MA-" series were from Bombay, but I would like to make an exception in this case. I also recall reading elsewhere that "MAP" was a Puneri number.

So, I'm fairly certain that MAP is a Puneri number, unless we see more concrete evidence.

MAF was Pune, not Bombay. MAS and MFA were Bombay.

Just open any MAP RC book, you will see first registration will be Bombay.

This is a vehicle which has not been registered in India. The seller told me that it was driven by his grand father by road to India from Germany.

Identical colour as my W123. And I agree Ive never heard of LED odometer either. Maybe the binacle is from a later model. Ill check. Also, of course this car is not from 2000. Maybe thats the year it was imported into India, but this is a car that is at least thirt years old.

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

according to my Dutch W123 friends back in the Netherlands that LED comes from a different Mercedes, W210.

Not sure if you see read this, but here it is anyway:

http://www.mbklassiekerclub.nl/w123-...ia-t20166.html

So at the bare minumum they've been messing with the dashboard and odometer. Wonder what else.

Being an LHD, I assume this can only be a donor car now.

Wondered about that. I don't think I have ever seen a LHD on the road in India. Is it impossible to register and or use a LHD in India? In the UK there is nothing stopping you from bringing in a LHD and you will find any number of classics in LHD.

Same is true for the rest of Europe where you will find the opposite, RHD classics on the road as well.

You can still see few LHD cars on the road in INDIA,at least in Kerala.Nothing prevents you from using an LHD vehicle in INDIA
