re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Here's an unusual listing - a very desirable Packard Clipper 'bathtub'. Would make a fine addition to any collection.

Quite a decently kept car from a look at the pictures. The registration MYL is of Belgaum, Karnataka and could be from the early 1960's. It is re-registered.

Imagine, the car is to be given away free , Yet, the poor guy needs to advertise

Iwonder what the scam is. maybe ,he just wants to attract interested people and then ask for a DONATION to his favourite charity??

Anyone got in touch? Would appreciate reading about their encounters.

I think if you don't specify an asking price on these ads, the default setting is 'Free/Donate'. I wouldn't read too much into it

I have no idea about the extent of restoration on this particular car, however these days it is not cheap. Today if you weretobuy a similar model and restore it , you may find the asking price not very unrealistic .

negotiate if seriously interested, but beware these cars are not for the faint hearted The only thing more expensive to maintain is a wife

I don't know about wheel caps but that side indicator is an add-on. Also, I thought 1100 had chrome strips on the sides through the entire length of the car.

Firstly, I am no expert but have to say a few things here. The hub caps used to be of aluminium. This one has been chrome plated. Many older aluminium hub caps have been chrome plated to get the classic looks, but they look a little bit garish for Fiats at least.

The old Fiat logo in a circular enclosure, used to be embossed at the centre. The circle at the centre of the wheel cap with the depression appears like the original in the car for sale featured on olx, but the Fiat logo cannot be seen.

These are the original period hub caps.

They seem to be original. Apart from the chrome plating that has been pointed out previously, I would like you to take notice of another thing-

The way the wheelcaps have been installed. These have not only been chrome plated, but also have a hole drilled through the centre, to felicitate easy installation. This not only destroys the asthetics, but also the Fiat logo, which is embossed.

The correct way, should be to install these by means of a clip. Still, these drilled, and chromed wheelcaps are worth it for -

A] They're rare.

B] They're still better than the new (!) Padmini wheelcaps we get these days. Our Delight had one of these installed, and Voila! Six months later, the entire wheelcaps were reduced to mere rust.

Another alternative is to fit genuine Fiat embossed hubcaps, like these. However, these are as rare as hen's teeth. Nope. Make that as rare as an amoeba's teeth.

Impossible to find, those are! A clean set of Delight wheelcaps-

1972ish. The 1973 Premier President had similar ones, with the PAL logo embossed.

1966 onwards, upto 1972ish.

The wheel cap on the green 1960 fiat for sale is original / original design. The original was made of steel (closer to stainless) (I have 3 of em) so were the side trims. Later reproductions were all sheet steel with chrome plating. Prior to 58-59 (change over period not known) with millicento and elegent they had aluminium ones like in Amol's car. The reason for drilling holes is fasten them properly as the clips were of inferior quality and would loose tension.

From my limited understanding the 1958/64 1100s had steel wheelcaps (the inner ring was metal which would rust). The early delights had the same ones in aluminium, before moving to the pressed lip wheel design.
