re: Classic Cars available for purchase

All vehicles have a Nagpur connection except Studebaker and Ford. Good to see Austin( I think its restored) and Land Rovers (Specially series 1 in restored form). IIRC this landy was situated in Laxmi Nagar here, in a rather neglected manner.

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Quite a few ads on olx for Heralds for sale- most of them are no longer available(!) but this one still seems to be on:

http://mangalore.olx.in/vintage-stan...-iid-670219177

This is a rare, early Standard Herald mk1 with the original dash still intact! and was infact a nice original car (but for the parking lights) in a beigeish colour, with older pics even posted in this forum earlier. Still looks complete, roof too is thankfully preserved as seen in the pics., though taken off.

This can be a good car for an enthusiast.

Price too negotiable. Hope it finds a good home, though I can't possibly afford it myself!

Is a herald actually worth 3 lakhs now?

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

A Premier Padmini, 1982, seen only 2 owners & throughout owner driven is quite a good condition, is for sale in Chennai with valid current documents. Interested persons may PM me

From my experience, in some cases, yes!

But aside, there isn't much negotiating choice a buyer has these days! The cars aren't too many to begin with!

Really Shyam? ? You of all people saying that the heralds are not available? Am sure a car that was available a dime a dozen would not just disappear like that.. Most probably just being hoarded by the so called collector dealers.. saying all this.. The car in question is a sweet car.. only if the price really was about 2 lakhs less..

Yes Kevin, that's harsh reality for you I'm afraid- as of now Heralds are simply NOT available in any part of India; atleast not easily, nor as many in number as they were until even a decade ago (I mean post 2000!)
You're right that they did exist 'a dime a dozen,' especially in Hyderabad and in Pune too, but I understand that most of them went out of there in the last 10 years or so! I heard that many were bought by some enterprising German bloke in Goa but then there aren't many left even over there now from what I got to know, so maybe they were eventually scrapped!
Pity because at one point of time, they were the cheapest cars around but nobody seemed to want them then or else there would've been many more surviving examples, and nice ones too!

Lets face it - anyone buying a 1980s Padmini today will only buy one from an enthusiasts point of view, not as a mode of transport. They may not be pedigreed classics, they may not (and as yet should not) compete in shows, but still a large fan following. I myself have 2 Padminis for the same reason.

Not really a classic; a border case though. A very rare original Fiat/Premier hard to find. In any case from 1965 until 1996, the car went thru very minimal changes

The Austin belonged to the Late Mr Ranjit Majumdar, (ex- RTO, Thane/ Nagpur) since the late 1980's, who must have been its "n th" owner.

The Land Rover BYJ 2799 belonged to Mr Banhatti and has an aluminium body. It must have been with them for many decades and is quite an original peice. It won awards at the Rallies here especially in the categories "Best Woman Driver" (Mrs Banhatti) and was also an overall Rally Winner.
