Moved to a collection I suppose? I do hope they will be more sympathetic to their plight.

Would you reckon something like this could be restored to good running condition?

ISUZU tracks

Hi,
Do any of you remember the ISUZU trucks? Around 1970, just before the Bangladesh war, scores of these trucks started plying the roads of Kolkata and other parts of eastern India. These trucks came as International aid for erstwhile East Pakistan refugees.Probably these trucks were operated by govt and aid agencies.
Even the name ISUZU was not familiar to commoners like us. (HM ISZ engines came much later). These trucks were distinct by their looks (frontals and metal "body") and created a lot of curiosity.
Soon after the war, these trucks simply vanished from the roads, all of a sudden.
Anybody know of the fate of these trucks? Do we have any pictures/wreckage/ ? were these given to Bangladesh? Just curious.
Cheers

Hi amit V8,
So far, could find only one of 1980 vintage in Thailand. The truck in the pix has a blunt front. Doesn't seem to look like the ones I saw in 1970. But memory plays many tricks.
Will post the pix I can get soon.
Would look up the Modern High School buses.
Cheers.

I agree with you.
Most of these Nissan Vehicles such as JONGA, 1 Tonner (4W73), Shaktimaan Trucks are powered with 3956cc 6-Cylinder Petrol engines & these engines used to give around 3-4 kmpl. Therefore most of these vehicles are now being scrapped & which are still in the use in Army camps are CO's (Commanding Officer) vehicles, but these vehicles are JONGA's.
These vehicles are then replaced by MM550 xDP Jeeps, Tata 407 4x4 etc. diesel powered vehicles.

I've seen some Nissan trucks in use in smaller cities in AP, like Vijayawada etc. 2-3 years ago. They still might be.

Also a team bhpian "arka" has one, featured in this forum once.

Here in Mumbai, many of the scrapped Nissan 4W73 (1 Toner) were picked up by the Traffic Police Department & then by replacing their 4.0L petrol engine with Tata 407's 3.0L diesel, they are used as tow trucks by traffic cops.
Many of these vahicles are parked near Sion Hospital & maheshwari Udyan Circle @ night. I will try for some pics if possible.

AFAIK since about 1970, Indian Army's workhorse had been "Shaktiman",
A M A N derivative multi-fuel CI engine trucks. These were manufactured under license at the heavy vehicle factory Jabalpur.
"Jongas" were Nissan derivatives of course.

I too was keen to find photo/picture of Fargo trucks manufactured by PAL in this thread.Could not find any.
These trucks could be easily identified with their cusped bonnet.
Found an old PAL Ad at Chrysler cars of India - Premier Automobiles, Plymouth, Fargo, and DeSoto, pointed by senior Bhpian Khanak in another thread (Indian built/assembled classics) initiated by karlosdeville.
Some photographs would be welcome.
