This lovely Mercedes 280 CE used in the "retro" movie Om Shanti Om. The car appears for exactly 15 seconds, but steals the limelight like nobody's business.
I was as infatuated with the Merc as Shahrukh was with Deepika.

'saw these in a 70s Telugu movie- Anthuleni katha.
The Merc. 115 is supposed to be driven by Kamal Hasan in the movie and a '60-61 Series 2 Lambretta that appears in the background. Both appear briefly in the movie.

Also a wooden 'rocking' toy scooter crudely made out in the form of a Lambretta! These rocking toys were made in many forms back in the day, I had a blue horse-shaped one.

Wow I would love to get my hands on the Lambretta rocking toy, BTW as a kid there used to be a Lambretta pedal toy that i would rent out from a cycle wallah in Mahableshwar, one day it dissapeared. Still trying to find a similar one.

Even I would've loved it instead of the "horsey" that I had!

My parents weren't too gaadi-oriented, that too not 2-wheelers!

I do remember seeing pics. of a pedal scooter, in a tamil mag. many years ago....looked nice. 'wish I'd saved that pic.!
I reckon these too would've eventually been given as scrap, just like their real counterparts!

Dont know if its discussed here, but simply love the taxi (Laila) used in sadhu and shaitan. Bombay roads were soo empty and fuel was so cheap then. Heaven I guess.

Yes, that's a 40s(?) Desoto. And your mention of this movie reminded me of the same movie also made in Tamil as "Sadhu Mirandhal", maybe a bit before, with a '47 Chevy fleetmaster used as a taxi driven by the late yesteryears' Tamil film comedian Nagesh. 'got the VCD of this movie sent by a friend some time ago.

You can also catch glimpses of other (mostly more modern at the time) cars seen in the 60s, like the black Standard Pennant in one of these pics. (and a few more of those used as taxis) and also what looks like a post-war Desoto and I think Ford Custom also used as taxis- those were the days!

And yes even Madras roads of then give you that impression!

Also used is this black mk1 Amby as the villains' car. Note the unusual hubcaps it has- anyone seen these before?

And, as is common with Indian movies, the regn. no. of the taxi is bogus, only for the film, and again common, I've a feeling they used 2 identical chevys, as in some of the scenes, it doesn't have either one rear or one front hubcap intact, while in other scenes it has all intact!

Was viewing an old B&W Bengali movie this morning (around 10.00 am) in the Bengali Channel Sony Eight, where this white Buick Super Eight convertible was shown. Was in a hurry so could not take more pictures or even get the movie name!
The second picture shows the boot lid being opened by the two heroes. I guess this is the same one that used to be parked during the 1970's and early 1980's at a petrol pump on Harza Road - S.P. Mukherjee Road junction:

Yesterday I watched a part of the classic 'Yaadon ki baaraat', where a black 1947/48 Cadillac sedan makes a clear appearence. It was registered BMX 9280 I think. Does she ring a bell?

Saw this strange looking car(??) in a 1940's Tamil movie "Nalla Thambi" featuring N.S.Krishnan. Its a 3 wheeler but was refered to as a car in the movie couple of times and had a starter lever similar to a autorickshaw.

Hi Jai 3033,

Please try to see the movie again just to get the registration number. In my collection of old pictures I have a similar machine/device Delhi registered. Shall compare when I reach home.

Cheers harit

'saw this '54(?) Desoto in a song in an old Telugu movie, "Bharya bharthalu". The film isn't of very good quality so these are the only 'proper' pics. I managed to get of it. The locale seems to be Madras.
