If I can answer - I checked out a classic few years ago - IIRC its steel rims and steel spokes.

Offtopic - can aluminium be chrome/nickel plated?

Santosh Ji,
Classic rims are made of steel with nickel plating and same goes to spokes as well.
Yes, aluminium can be chrome plated but its not long lasting. you might have seen few bullets with extra extra shiny engine and small black spots, they are chrome plated.

In my bullet days I have seen my mech 'buffing' up the block to the highest order to acheive the natural shine, but didnt know you can plate them too. thanks.

My choice would be No.4 too as they seem to be like MT pattern. Guess no.3 would be closest to AT.

re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

ok technical question now...

On a 7.50*16 tyre, say a TATA407 types, it translates to 191MM of contact patch with tarmac, Am I right? Something similar in a sandgrip, bullet I guess?

Why does rebelt shops like MRF or JK Tyre only recomend 160MM (MAX) of rebelt thread width on a 750 tyre? Any rebelt experienced people? Truck/fleet owners? Headers/Vikram?... Any rebelt users?

re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

Has anyone got a set of tyres from Pavan Anand who advertises in the classifieds section. The requirement is to send the money upfront, so asking for some inputs on personal experience of dealing with the selller.

re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

Need a suggestion guys.

My Thar CRDe will be delivered day after, looking to swap the stock tyres for some A/T or M/T tyres.

My driving pattern will be 70% roads/ bad roads, 20% very bad roads/ farms, 10% OTRs.

I dont fancy alloys, will buy only if the tyre demands.

Options as under:

1. Yokohoma Geolanders: 255/65 R16, on stock rims... seems to be the most sensible choice even for the pocket but heart rules over mind. total additional damages 15K

2. Maxxis Bighorn 235/70 R16 on stock rims. total damages 29K

3. Mickey Thompson M+S 30" on basic 15" alloys. Total damages 45K

4. Discovery Cooper SST 30" on basic 15" alloys. Total Damages 47K. Drool Maal! Love these.

I have little to no knowledge about tyres.

Infact this is the first time that i will be buying tyres ever. So need all the help i can get.

Since 90% of your commute is on roads (good, bad or ugly), I would suggest you go for A/T tyres. Going for M/T tyres would be a waste IMHO and most probably ride quality, fuel efficiency etc would suffer. AFAIK Yoko's have weak sidewalls. Would suggest you check out Continental Cross contact A/T. Have heard good things about them!

Cheers!

Check out continental Cross Contact AT Tyres. Easily available and they are an aggressive AT tread pattern. I have seen them perform well even in slush.
