Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Attaching the current channel packages list and other details of Tata Sky. I hope it helps people who want to review the lsit of Tata Sky channel packages to decide which one to subscribe to.

After reviewing the latest packages, I have decided to continue with my old channel packs (South Jumbo and Lifestyle Gold).

Disclaimer:- I have no commercial interest in Tata Sky other than the fact that I am Tata Sky subscriber.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

TataSky has increased their HD Gold pricing from Rs 75 to Rs 100 recently that to without any warning. They simply deduct from the current balance.

Reason, Sony HD and Zee HD added. They are offering 10 HD channels now. What if they start providing 20 odd like rivals? Rs 200/month

Really? If that would be the case then i feel they will have substantial loss in form of consumers.I wish that the government, which is busy in taking stupid decisions, should come up with a subscriber portability in case of DTH also.Thats insane on part of TataSKY.People stick to it just because of the service but then everything has to be judged by a benefit/loss ratio.

They just lost one customer in the form of me. I have been using TATA Sky since they launched in 2006 but they have now become way too expensive for what they offer. A full year (regular not HD) subscription was earlier Rs. 5,000 and then became Rs. 5,500 last year when I renewed in June. They then removed some channels sometime in November last year and asked us to pay extra for that.

This year, my subscription expires on June 26, but the customer service agent tells me that its June 16 (was the date when I paid last year) and that the prices is Rs. 6,000 this year. Told the agent on the phone to go climb a tree and that I plan to switch to another service provider.

Any suggestions on which regular DTH I should go for? I have picked Airtel Digital TV, Reliance BIG TV and Dish TV as possible options. For now this will be a regular DTH service, but I might upgrade to a HD service once I buy a HDTV later in the year.

They have now increased this to 6,000 per year!

I have also been a subscriber since they launched. I also upgraded to HD plus when that was launched.
It used to cost 6000 odd for both rooms.
Now it costs 6400 per annum plus 1760 for the second room. There are 10 HD channels available as of now.

I like Tata Sky quality but Im also unhappy to pay 8000 odd per annum for the TV connecton(s).
To take full advantage I shall have to upgrade my dowstairs extra TV from the old Sony CRT to an HD LCD and buy an HD Set top box too.
But that room lies empty a lot of the time so whats the point? Even the main TV hardly gets watched because we are working and i have better things to do than sit in front of a TV all weekend!

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

I got a text message a couple of days later that Tata Sky HD for a limited number of channels which was costing Rs.60/Month is now hiked to Rs.100/month

They make slow and smart moves and we wont even know when the prices are hiked if your not paying close attention.

No doubt Tata Sky has become terribly expensive but, the fact remains there is no other DTH service provider as good.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Any idea as to how much does the Mega pack with HD channels costs now?

Till last year the normal mega pack included the HD channels but now the web site says "Mega pack with HD channels also available" but does not give the cost for the combo.

EDIT : found the link. The combo now cots 6400/- that is an increase of 1000+ over last year's prices. Mega South pack(includes Sun tv channels) + HD costs 6900/-

How to keep your TV 'smart' for years without spending a huge amount of money - Economic Times

Amkette's EvoTV connects to any existing TV that you have - even an old CRT set - and enables smart TV functionality such as Internet, social networking, apps, gaming and digital multimedia playback.

Quote:
The software is Android 2.3, modified to display nicely on all kinds of TVs. It offers you the full complement of apps from the Google Play Store, which at last count was well over 5,00,000. That's much more than the handful of apps that smart TVs offer.

And since the box is powered by Android, you can use it with devices that you already own. For instance, you could connect any USB keyboard or mouse to the device. Adding a USB webcam will enable Skype video conferencing on your four-year-old (and in tech terms, ancient) TV.

But it's the remote control of the EvoTV that's the real good deal. What you get is a sophisticated, radio frequency remote with touch sensors, accelerometer, gyroscope, microphone and speaker - similar to the motion sensing remote of Nintendo Wii.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Hi everybody
Seems there is more than one grouse against Tatasky
We pay a premium for their service but somehow it has not lived up.
Today I tried to chat live 4/5 times and every time I was disconnected that no agent was available.
I drafted out a message to their helpdesk and when I forwarded it ,the message box went blank.I wonder if a fresh message has to be sent.Normally an acknowledgement no is given. This has happened for the second time.
I had Videocon and it was quite good.Unfortunately they did not have comedy central so switched to Tatasky.
Somebody earlier had mentioned that it was difficult to cancel a channel.
How has been dishtv?
Regards

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Hey guys need some help. I will be switching from the cable T.V to DTH connections. I checked out Tata-Sky then the same dealer told me about Videocon. It seemed much VFM than Tata-sky. Videocon is offering 19 HD channels and the top pack which includes all the channels is costing Rs.440 per month. Is it a good deal and any take on Videocon? Is it good? Any help will be appreciated.

I have been using Videocon D2H since a year, and i would recommend it. I'm on the South Platinum HD pack, and it has all the channels they offer. I had ordered it online, because they had some freebies. Installation was also quick, all in all a nice experience so far.

I can't speak for HD, but we have been using Videocon D2H SD for the last few weeks and we're pretty happy with the quality of broadcast on our CRT. It might not look all that fabulous on an LCD TV.

Also, we're on full package for the first 2 months and the number of channels offered is very high - 368 and also includes Comedy Central - someone mentioned about it here. List of all channels (May29th update) : Videocon D2H DTH Channel List

Hi
I used Videocon for about 2 years(please read my post of 15th june)
Experience wise I didnt find anything better with Tatasky to justify their premium tag.As they did not have comedy central had to switch.Cost me money for the box/antennae installation again.

Thanks a lot. So I guess Videocon doesnt have any major issues.
